Something I really, really liked about the first two Ahsoka episodes is just how prickly Ahsoka is when she doesn’t want to deal with something. She’s not handling everything with Sabine all that well, she’s still hung up on her guilt about Anakin even almost three decades later, to the point that it’s spilling over onto her relationship with Sabine, she still feels distant from Hera, she’s downright almost mean to Sabine after she loses the map, there’s very little sense of whimsy or fun to her, she’s calm on the surface, but very much still a hot mess underneath. Felony gets a lot of shit for the way he talks about his favorite character (and not undeservedly so) but the way he writes her here, is not actually a perfect character but instead a complicated and thorny character who is legitimately really, really engaging to me and is allowed the room to make mistakes and be messy. She is not the most True Jedi Who Ever Was. She’s still ignoring her feelings! She’s still afraid to let go of Anakin! She’s still holding herself at arm’s length because she’s scared of losing people and being hurt again! These are all things that are foundational to being a Jedi to deal with! And she doesn’t! Because she tells herself she’s not a Jedi and so she doesn’t have to do the things a Jedi needs to do, doesn’t have to confront and let go of her feelings, and she just leaves things where they lie! And it makes her relationships prickly and clouded and messy, all while being completely understadable, she was dealt a hand that’s an impossible mountain to climb, with leaving the Jedi Order, with the genocide of her people, with the death of her entire extended family, with the Force being darkened by the Sith, with the devastating truth about Anakin, with never being able to go back to the Jedi Order like she wanted because the Jedi Order was stolen from her–all of that is a deep level of trauma that haunts her and she hasn’t pulled it out of her heart yet, and it makes me love her all the more. This show said, “Let Ahsoka be a living, breathing character who has a story worth telling because it’s not easy and it’s not perfect, but it’s heartfelt and deeply caring.” and then gave it to us.

the main interesting aspect of Arin's character to me is not so much that he is a frustrated, angry, and lonely person underneath a kind, friendly, and eager exterior. Rather its that he is all of these things in equal measure, but everyone around him (including the audience at first) isn't really privy to these "negative" traits, and sort of has been brushing his expression of them off as simple lack of self-confidence; a small blip in his inevitable hurdle towards self-actualization. I don't think anyone means anything bad by it, but I think everyone views Arin as such an inherintly good and talented person, that he doesn't feel comfortable truly expressing how lost he feels without his parents. The dissonance is coalescing within him, into a guilt at not being good enough to save his parents. That causes the encouraging words of his mentors and friends to feel more and more like a lie, and those friendly and kind traits that are inherint to his character, to feel like a weakness that isn't even being returned to him in kind.

"Isn't it weird that [thing humans commonly eat] is poisonous to literally every domesticated animal" I mean, there's a pretty good chance that [thing humans commonly eat] is at least mildly poisonous to humans, too. One of our quirks as a species is that we think our food is bland if it doesn't have enough poison in it.

Humans have a really weird mix of mundane superpowers.

We're not fast and don't have a lot of natural weaponry but we're bizarrely tolerant to a broad range of toxins to the point that one toxin is considered a morning necessity for some to perform at work. Gotta love us.

It’s all fun and games to prank your little commander by sticking bugs and plant into her boots after a campaign. That is until said commander retaliates and you learn that Jedi Padawans are just as mischievous as clone cadets.

I ran a poll on what she would write and this was the top vote! Second place is right here:

somehow the poor cops who we were told are simply too understaffed and underpaid because of Woke to deal with 'rampant rising crime' have found the strength to beat the shit out of college students across the whole country for peacefully saying "divest from the country killing innocent palestinians in the tens of thousands"

Crawling back out of hiding to say that I don’t think we talk about epilepsy on here as much as we should

Epilepsy is not just the “flashing lights and bright colors disease.” It just isn’t. There are so many different variables that make up what a seizure is, and I feel like the word “seizure” in and of itself is really only understood in the case of tonic-clonic (“Grand Mal”) seizures, i.e. the most dramatic type of seizure that can cause loss of consciousness (LOC), as just one example.

Not all of them cause LOC! In fact, a seizure can be as simple as “staring into space” for a spell and losing time, sometimes while making involuntary twitchy or jerky movements. They may feel like being in a dream, or invoke a sense of deja vu. They may cause muscle stiffness, dizziness, or tingling. Sometimes people respond differently while in a seizure, and may sound confused or dazed. Sometimes they can cause random feelings of happiness or anxiety. And then there’s also the repetitive movements that can sometimes look like stimming.

Another thing that’s misunderstood is that not everyone person with epilepsy is photosensitive (i.e., sensitive to flashing lights and such), and seizures in general aren’t just triggered by flashing lights or colors alone. Seizures can also be triggered by specific times of the day, sleep deprivation, alcohol or drug use, stress, hormonal changes and periods, nutritional factors, medications, etc.

According to Mayo Clinic, epilepsy is usually diagnosed when two seizures unprovoked occur within 24 hours of each other. An EEG can detect electrical activity in the brain, and is generally used in epilepsy workups. It is even used during sleep and can be a helpful aid in detecting nocturnal seizures (yes, those are a thing as well).

There are, as described above, several different types of seizures. Mayo clinic does a good job in identifying what type is which, but keep in mind that epilepsy is not something that can be self-diagnosed. If you think you might have epilepsy, talk to your doctor so they can assist with assessment.

also, uncontrolled seizures can kill
