CHICKEN DIVERSITY MASTERPOST
Welcome to an inner look at the machinations of my world building and some tips for dms
Hags
They are fucking fantastic
- Easy to tease with disappearing children or a strange (polymorphed) kid or hag
- If the party kill one, other members of the dead ones coven might try to avenge their brethren and hunt the party
- A good intro to enemy spellcasters and craftier tactics
- Show players the value of potions
Now this is assuming that the hags are enemies. They make fantastic friendly npcs whether as an eccentric shopkeeper or a quirky patron. They also have the fantastic utility of a hag eye. It’s a old withered eye they can see out of no matter where it is. This opens the door for espionage or finding who is watching you
In my world
I have 3 npc hags in the city where the pcs are. Kaithretoo the recluse, Molingret the onlooker, and Zaquatious the emboldened. They all work one way or another for a criminal organization called the crossroads
Molly runs store that attracts would be recruits for the crossroads. She sells various nefarious tools like poison and lock picks and keeps tabs on the buyers to see if they are worth it to recruit.
Kait is known as the queen of the underground and directs the crossroads members assignments when she’s not transforming political enemies into spiders
Zaq has managed to infiltrate the upper echelon of nobles after being recognized for her arcane prowess and becoming the reining leader of the crescent spire (an arcane research facility) when her superior went missing.
The amount of plot threads or missions just these three could lead to are incredible. Feel free to take them for your own world or just use them for inspiration
Oh also I forgot to mention they are called the coven of veins
Which is such a based name
A guide to making better npcs
(Don’t worry it’s not one of the hour long process for one character)
Layers and secrets help build a more defined and rich character while also helping with role play
I love to give my npcs small secrets/quirks. It sounds really tedious, but it’s as simple as going “you know what? That bartender is a fallen angel.”
Not only does that help a ton with roleplay by giving more to the personality, it also helps when pcs do more than you are prepared for. Say that your players ask about the menu and you don’t have anything prepared. You could use that quirk to have an easier time making stuff up. They could serve a drink called paradise or an omelet called the halo.
This also just helps flesh out otherwise stale encounters and rewards the players with cool info they wouldn’t have found out unless by roleplaying in more depth with that character

This is I think, my best prep tip as a DM:
When the players are about to visit a new town, pre-generate several NPCs who fit the demographics of the town, but don't give them jobs. Your town is Mostly human, with a number of halflings and gnomes? Make a list that's mostly humans with some halflings and gnomes mixed in, with names that match the vibe you're going for and maybe the barest description + a quirk of some sort.
So the list would look something like this:
- Ophelia Bracegurdle, older Halfling woman who laughs a lot
- Norabecka Johnson, a young human woman who seems tired
- Geraldofinio Babblecock Nimsy, gnome gentleman who takes pains to maintain a fabulous mustache
- Etc.
Then, when the players are like, "Can I go to the blacksmith?" You look at your list of NPCs and the one at the top is Ophelia Bracegurdle. She's your blacksmith now. Then they want to go to the tavern, where Norabecka is the innkeeper and Geraldofinio is a patron having a drink at the bar. He's using a straw so he doesn't mess up his mustache.
If they had gone to the inn first, Ophelia would have been the innkeeper with Norabecka as the patron, and then Geraldofinio should have been a blacksmith with some sort of mustache guard to keep the sparks off.
Making the list ahead of time doesn't take much time, and you can often re-use the people you never got to at the next town.
Your world will seem vibrant and interesting and like you have everything planned out.
Have fun!

IRONDAD & SPIDER-SON WHUMP MASTERLIST—PART 1
Last Updated: September 2023
As promised, here is my long overdue Irondad Whump Masterlist! This list took an embarrassing amount of time to compile and over forty pages in my Google Docs (!!!!!).
Due to the sheer amount of fics, I will be posting in parts. Within these posts, each fic will categorized by its most prevalent trope/theme.
I hope the work from these talented contributors brings as much whumpy joy to you as they do to me!
Also, a very special shoutout to my most treasured Irondad authors iron_spider, for_the_night, madasthesea, losingmymindtonight, AdVitemAeternum, MotherKarizma, and so many more! This post is dedicated to you. ♡
I want whumper to start bragging to caretaker about what they put whumpee through. I want them to tell the tales with a smile on their face and watch grinning as caretaker's expression changes more with each one.
But see, I don't want caretaker to become disgusted, or call whumper a sadistic monster, or start thinking "poor whumpee" just yet. I want caretaker to look up slowly, and make unbreakable eye contact with whumper as they half whisper, "I'm going to fucking kill you."
And whumper shivers.
The moment the whumpee watches the caretaker, the kindest, gentlest, most loving person they’ve ever meet, absolutely OBLITERATE the whumper is a trope I will never get over.
Paladin oath of the bit
The biggest wettest saddest most pathetic brown eyes in all of mana
Day old chicks are so funny, they just fall asleep so easily
youll have to excuse them... it is very tiring to be small and tiny
i always mean it when i say i love you btw
‘but thats a stranger you dont know’ and i love them. i love that they exist and i love that they passed through my life. and i love u too btw
reblog to tell your mutuals you love them for existing
i will never understand the insane takes against having games be more accessible
“does every game NEED to be accessible to disabled people? 🤨” yeah, actually
also the pissing and shitting over difficulty settings. just play the game on the normal difficulty dumbass it’s not for you
Same with stuff like screen shake, particle effects, flashing/lightning effects: “But the game would look terrible without them!”
Then Just.... Don’t turn them off then, dickface...
Meanwhile, *having the option to turn them off* would greatly increase the number of people able to play the game.
