Kagami watched another plane take off down the runway, racing into the blue of the sky. His eyes stared after it until it was merely a speck swallowed by the clouds, going to places he could only imagine. As another plane landed, people swirling around him with the rush of boarding and arrivals, he briefly entertained the idea of getting on some random one. Going somewhere not even he knew, somewhere new and exciting.

Somewhere that wasn’t a twelve hour flight away. Or that wasn’t five thousand miles across the ocean. Or that wasn’t California.

Or that wasn’t away from Kuroko.

“Your hands are shaking, Taiga-kun.”

Kagami suddenly complained, his voice loud in the otherwise quiet apartment. He sat heavily on the couch, throwing his head back and then stretching limb after limb until his joints turned into a symphony of cracking noises, which was certainly unnerving and inconvenient for Kuroko’s reading.

“Kagami-kun” he called, letting some annoyance drip into his tone, “if you’re bored, there’re still some boxes that need unpacking”

They requested Hanahaki disease.  I imagine that Kuroko and Kagami independently realize they are in love with each other while Kagami has returned to America for a year, and both suffer from it – they stay in touch via skype and hide the petals, each thinking that they’ll get over it for the other’s sake, unwilling to derail the other’s life. 

Eventually they get over themselves and have a dramatic reunion in an airport.
