My Bad Batch Fanfiction Masterpost

Looks like I've started writing enough Batcher fic that a masterpost would be helpful! Fics are always tagged under #my batcher fic. While I may end up writing some TechPhee someday (bearing how S3 plays out!), expect canon-compliant genfic focused on angst, whump, family feels, and even the occasional bit of fluff. And Crosshair, Crosshair, Crosshair β€οΈπŸ’€πŸ–€

Here's what I have so far, laid out in roughly chronological order from the Clone Wars on:

Flash and Bang: Wrecker loves the poetry of explosions. Drabble.

Kashyyyk: Headcanons about each of Clone Force 99 from a mission on Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars. Drabble.

Evaluations: A series of evaluations of CT-9904 through the years. Nala Se POV. Angst, medical whump. 3200 words.

32 rotations: Drabble/art of Crosshair after being rescued on Kamino. Whump.

The Poncho: Wrecker and Tech debate the merits of ponchos. Cut and Run, Ruins of War. 450 words.

Ill-fitted: Crosshair prepares for his first mission after the fall of Kamino, but something feels wrong with his armor. ~1000 words.

The Soldier: Hunter isn't sleeping well on Pabu. Set in late S2. ~830 words.

Lost Time: Echo works on Omega's crossbow after Plan 99. Drabble.

dust: Crosshair reconciles with his old armor. The Return. Drabble.

Patching Up: After the events of The Return, Crosshair realizes Batcher needs patching up. She’s not the only one. ~2770 words.

Blind Side: Wrecker catches Crosshair for a heart-to-heart, and reminds him of something that happened long ago. Set between 3x05 and 3x06, ~ 1700 words.

Still: When Crosshair can't hide his tremor any longer, Omega does her best to help. Maybe this time it'll be different. Fill-in-the-blank for episode Bad Territory. ~1900 words.

Under Sun and Shade: Omega and Crosshair share memories of Tech on a sunny day. ~ 900 words.

Dawn, After: Hunter finds Crosshair after Point of No Return. Drabble.

In the morning: Hunter takes Crosshair aside before leaving Pabu. Set during Juggernaut. Drabble.

Clone Studies: a little meta post about the field of clone studies, long after the clones are gone β€” but not forgotten.

Crosshair: β€œI’ve changed.”

Rampart: β€œSure, you have.”

This is what has been haunting me for the past 12 hours… Because I think, to a certain degree, Rampart is right…

Was anyone else completely thrown off by Rampart's "Sure, you have" remark?? Like, he seemed too confident in that… But now that I think about it…

Because like wasn't Crosshair like "I don't want to be breaking in or out [of Tantiss]. Omega didn't leave me behind last time. I owe her."

Is he only doing this because of a favor???

This is like a callback to Season 1 when he saved her after she saved him... But again he only did it because he owe her one.

I may be thinking about this in a really dark manner. But it sort of lines up...

AND THEN...in Episode 12, it’s revealed Crosshair purposely withheld information on the selfish account he didn't want to go back...

I think Rampart is right to a certain degree that Crosshair is loyal to himself...

I've been mulling this over for 12 hours now and I think Rampart is just straight up wrong. Crosshair's loyalty has always been to his brothers (and now Omega). The only time that wavered was when he thought they'd turned their backs on him. He had nothing left to be loyal to then so he just followed the Empire blindly. That's the only version of Crosshair that Rampart knows but Crosshair was a shell of himself. He's not now.

Crosshair speaks in terms of debt and favors owed because he doesn't really have the emotional skills and language to say that he actually cares. It's feels easier/safer for him to say he "owes" Omega than it does to say he's terrified for her safety and loves her enough to put his other fears aside.

He's not selfless, by any stretch. It is a very selfish motivation. He wasn't willing to go back to Tantiss to rescue the other clones because he doesn't particularly care about them like Omega - who is extremely selfless in her desire to rescue the others - does. But he is willing to go now that someone he cares about is on the line.

It's selfish and it's self-sacrificing. I think that's the core of who Crosshair is. He would burn the galaxy and himself for what he cares about - and what he cares about is his family. They matter more to him than anything, including himself. His love is for them.

But Rampart doesn't understand that anyone could feel that way. Rampart is only loyal to himself. His love is only for himself. He can't fathom that other people aren't just in it for themselves like he is.

I think that line is setting up Rampart to realize that he's been wrong this whole time. He's about to see how much someone else - Crosshair, specifically - can care about others. I think we're about to see him have an identity crisis of his own and maybe a change of heart.

*checks notes* 100%

Crosshair’s loyalty has always been and always will be, to his brothers and Omega

Crosshair is intensely loyal but that loyalty has always been narrow. He’s been loyal to his brothers and to the concept of being a good soldier, but he had no interest in helping to free the other clones on Tantiss β€” yeah, that *is* selfish, but it tracks with how he’s always been. He’s always been separate from regs except for Echo, Cody and Mayday. But when he does show that loyalty, it’s blinding. He’ll do anything for Omega, and not because he β€œowes” her a one-off favor; that’s just the only way he feels safe enough to put it.

When there was no clear reason (to him) to go back to Tantiss, he did withhold the information. The terror of going back there wasn’t worth it for regs, many of whom are still potentially loyal to the Empire. But when they lost Omega? It was the first thing out of his mouth, even though it made his hand worse than ever. Nothing but love and loyalty could have made him give that up.

All right, since we’ve had yet another week where there is No Tech as CX-2 reveal, and since I was very sleep-deprived last night, here’s my new crack theory, utterly unsupported by any evidence, but WHAT IF:

What if Crosshair was wrong on Barton IV… and Mayday was still barely alive?

What if they both got taken to Tantiss?

What if MAYDAY is CX-2, and that’s why Crosshair was so afraid when he saw the captured clone and knew who was next in line?

You had your chance to be one of us. You chose the wrong side. 😭😭😭

β€œBy the usual measures, Biden should be cruising to reΓ«lection. Violent crime has dropped to nearly a fifty-year low, unemployment is below four per cent, and in January the S. & P. 500 and the Dow hit record highs. More Americans than ever have health insurance, and the country is producing more energy than at any previous moment in its history. His opponent, who is facing ninety-one criminal counts, has suggested that if he is elected he will fire as many as fifty thousand civil servants and replace them with loyalists, deputize the National Guard as a mass-deportation force, and root out what he calls β€œthe radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.””

There really are not words strong enough to describe the absolute lack of any logical foundation, or consideration for any person or any issue inherent in the idea of not voting because you β€œhate Joe Biden” or because you’ve suddenly become a one issue voter and haven’t bothered to develop a real understanding of the one issue that is allegedly animating you. οΏΌ

This is a binary choice, one of these two candidates is going to win, one of them isn’t perfection, the other is a completely corrupt asshole who wants me to die, and since this is the queer trans disabled monsterfucker website, if you are reading this, he almost certainly wants you to die too.

Act like it.

Angstpril 2024 | Day 24 | Prompt 24: Ghost of You

Rated: G | Words: 435 | Summary: Wrecker and Crosshair talk about their lost brother. | Character Focus: Wrecker, CrosshairΒ

Wrecker groggily wakes to the sound of sure fingers typing. β€œGo to sleep, Tech,” he grumbles, turning over in the pull down bunk to face the wall.Β

The typing stops abruptly. β€œSorry. Didn’t mean to wake you.” Crosshair’s voice. Not Tech’s. Never Tech’s.Β

Tech is dead.Β

Do you think that while Crosshair was trying to bring Mayday back to base, that he wished he had Wrecker’s strength? If only he was as strong as Wrecker, he’d be able to get back faster, able to carry Mayday instead of forcing him to walk, able to withstand the cold. Do you think he thought of how many times Wrecker had saved him, how Crosshair could always rely on him when he needed that strength?

Do you think he wished he could be that for Mayday?
