the way in chain of iron, cassandra clare twists everyones dreams makes me so sad

because firstly we have cordelia. she dreams of having her father back, of marrying james, of being a hero, and she gets all of that only to have it ripped away or twisted horribly. her father ended up not being the person she thought he was, then dying. her marriage to james was fake in the first place, then by the end she was heartbroken because of it. her dreams of becoming a hero were such pure dreams with only good intentions and she genuinely thought they had come true, only to find out about who’s paladin she really was.

then there’s jesse, who only ever wanted to be a shadowhunter, and died because of that dream. and yet, even after, nOooo he just couldn’t rest in peace could he???! belial possesses him, and uses him to kill shadowhunters, when all he ever wanted was to help them :(

In Uzbek we have this concept of the divine dark, the darkness from which all things came. So there’s this idea that shows up in a lot of our literature that when the world was first made it was like a gentle night, peaceful, quiet and pitch-black. The night is when creation started and the night is when you’re closest to glimpsing what it was like at the very start of the world.
