1. Tell us some funny drunk story. “I got into a fight with a tree because it was in my way. Then I broke a branch off and carried it all the way home so no other tree would think of messing with me.

2. Why are you no longer together with your ex? “You could say my family line wasn’t quite prestigious enough for him.

3. If you had to choose one way to die, what would it be? “In a computer game. The kind that has a save file and you just have to reload it to come back to life.

  1. What was the last gift you gave? “Ummm, I think it was to Riley for his birthday. And he’s still processing it.
  2. What was the last concert you went to? “It was one of those free concerts they have at Prospect Park over the summer, so last year. Total impulse decision to go. It was a band called The Wallflowers, who I think were kinda popular in the 90s, but respect for Gen X still rocking out.
  3. Favourite place to shop at? “Target for regular stuff. A Converse store if I’ve won the lottery.
  4. Who inspires you? “My friends. They’re all the most amazing people and they make me want to be the most kick ass version of myself possible.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal request be?

Avatar

"One of those giant nine tier chocolate cakes, like in Matilda. Because I figure my friends will be busting me out of death row because clearly I'm totally innocent, and that's a whole lot of cake to hide their escape tools in."

The sun beat down on Brian’s back as he laid quietly on the rooftop. His scope was trained on a window at the bottom right of the building, watching slight movement through closed blinds, catching only glimpses of people inside.

He’d been in that position for over an hour now, just waiting for any action to be called. Although he didn’t expect any really. This had to be that same crew that they’d been chasing for months, hitting every bank and jewelry store in the greater Los Angeles area. This was the first time SWAT had been called out before they’d left the scene, their first major screw up in all that time. He’d seen all the reports on this group, noted that no one even had a clear idea of how many people ran with this crew or what any of them looked like. They were professionals.

He stretched out each foot in turn, trying to keep the circulation going without losing sight of his target.

Gamble, what are you seeing?” The voice over the radio sounded tense and tired.

“Not a damn thing, sir.” He replied. “Slight movement through the cracks in the blinds, nothing I could shoot at.” The only reply he received was a loud sigh. These thieves were too good, he thought, and likely had already found a way out.

Suddenly there was more movement, and people started coming out the front door with their hands up. “Is that them?” He asked his partner as he swung his scope to get a better look at them.

“Hold fire. Hostages being released. Repeat, hold fire.”

He took a moment to look at each person closely as they exited the building. Most looked scared, some had tears streaming down their faces, but one looked very calm. And familiar. Brian watched her walk across the street, trying to remember where he knew her from.

It was five years earlier. He’d been at an apartment dealing with a burglary. Small time stuff, a little money, some personal jewelry, and a pistol had been taken from a woman’s place. They’d talked to everyone who lived in the building. She had lived a few doors down. He remembered her small stature and quick smile. She joked with him and seemed totally at ease chatting with a cop. Her hair was darker then but he was sure it was the same woman. They’d never caught the thief in that case.

And then the pieces just fell into place.

He was just about to call it in when she glanced up at the rooftop. Even though he knew it wasn’t possible, it felt like she locked eyes with him. And then she smiled. It looked like she was teasing him, daring him to try to do something. For just a moment he wondered if she knew he was there. And for reasons he couldn’t explain, he just watched her walk away without breathing a word.

And then she had slipped into the crowd and disappeared.

The scene was eventually cleared. No one was sure if there were three or five thieves. The bank vault had been practically emptied in less than ten minutes. Some thought it had been an inside job. And no one was sure what any of them had looked like, although one was said to have been short and slight of build.

I got sick in Madrid, and to my surprise there was a doctor working at the hotel.

No one expects the Spanish inn physician.
