New to Studyblr!!!!!!

Hello! 

I’m an junior in high school, and I am so excited to be joining this community!! A few things about me: 

  • I am currently taking physics, pre-calc with dual credit, web page design, english, statistics with dual credit, and chemistry, and tbh I really like them all.
  • I am (attempting) to teach myself Italian!
  • I am in band and choir & I’m in the tech crew for my school’s spring musical!!!
  • I read a lot and I work part-time as a librarian! 
  • I’m a Slytherin!!! woot woot represent

  • I love to knit!
  • I use exclamation points a lot!!!!!!!!

Day 3 [3.2.17]: Favourite study methods

I like to make electronic notes, then I rewrite them out (my chemistry notes are in the shot) and also make flip cards with my daiso word cards! I enjoy using mildliners/any highlighters to make it look pretty, but notes are mainly for memorising. (Practicality > aesthetic)

Today I had teaching assistant training in the morning and a PhD meeting at 3, so I used the time in between to do some more thinking about possible thesis topics. I didn't think deciding on a topic would be so hard! One of my friends suggested pairing up my interests and thinking of a research question for each pair, so that's what I was trying to do here.

I had my first PhD meeting today and I think it went well! It looks like realistically I won't be ready to enrol until April which is kinda sad but it's better than getting super stressed trying to meet the March deadline. I've got two potential topics with heaps of different pros and cons so the next couple of weeks will be devoted to research and decision making!

I got my heart broken and I survived, I failed 3 courses in university and graduated, I got rejected in the very first job I applied for and got promoted yesterday, I went through hard times with my family but then two years later, we laughed our hearts out over lunch, The closest friends disappointed me several times but I made new friends and loved them with all my heart. I did it once, I can do it again.

Have trouble with taking too many breaks or getting distracted? This printable can help keep you on task! Use highlighters, markers, or colored pencils to shade in the appropriate color every 30-60 minutes.

  • Green: Productive! You’re doing what you need to be doing.
  • Blue: Neutral. This can include tasks that you need to do such as eating, commuting, or showering. Earned break time also goes in this category.
  • Red: Unproductive time! This can include neutral time that has gone on too long, as well.

At the end of the week, look over how you did and make a game plan. You might decide to move your work time to times of the day you are more productive or make a pact with yourself to be more productive each day by eliminating at least X number of red blocks a week. You could also make other uses out of these, such as creating a school or work schedule. It’s up to you!

Friendly reminder that you don’t have to wait until the weekends to live and enjoy your life. Go to your favorite coffee shop after school, call your friend, bake cookies on a Wednesday afternoon, dance around in your underwear. Your life is yours to live and you shouldn’t put it on hold because of work or school.

Amen to that! One of my 2017 resolutions is to make more time for myself and not let the craziness of study wear me down!

Story time! So growing up I always compared myself to my extremely smart older brother, he was great at chemistry and maths while I struggled and felt like I was never good enough. Dad always said my time would come but I never believed him. Fast forward a few years and I have a first class honours degree in psychology, I'm one of 25 senior scholarship recipients from my university year, I've spent a year travelling the world, and I'm about to start a PhD. Listen to my Dad because he was right. If you're struggling at the moment then know that it might not be your time now, but it will come. Keep working hard towards your goals and good things will happen for you!

I was talking to my parents about how many of my friends are already getting job offers, internships, and study abroad experiences as rising college juniors.

I said, “It feels like my life is buffering, like when you get that spinning pinwheel thing on your laptop.”

My dad responded, “Yeah, but when it finally loads, it’ll be HD quality.”

So I thought I’d share that bit with you all. If you’re feeling the same way, support your friends, but keep your head down, work hard, and wait for it–your time will come. :)

Fuck anyone who says “why do you care about the election - you don’t even live in America.” Even if we forget for a moment that the U.S is arguably one of the most influential governments in the world and what they do effects us all, a basic sense of human empathy is what makes those living outside of America so terrified. We’re scared for every woman who is going to be denied access to an abortion and those who will inevitably die in an attempt to access an illegal one. We’re scared for every person who will seek asylum from war and poverty but will be denied compassion. We’re scared for LGBT+ people who don’t feel safe in their own communities. We’re scared for people of colour and the institutionalised oppression that they experience every day. We’re scared for victims of sexual assault knowing that their President invalidates and trivialises their experiences. We’re scared for our ailing environment. I could go on forever. We’re scared and sad and angry and disgusted that someone so vile, so comically ridiculous will probably be elected as the leader of the free world. Sometimes the bad guy wins and, in this case, it’s fucking scary because the bad guy has the power to make or break the lives of hundreds of millions of people. You don’t need to live in America to understand that, you just have to have some sense of human compassion.

what do we do tho? like, honestly? what happens if he’s elected? what do we honest to god do?

Coming from the UK after our own catastrophe: you make his life hell. You make his government’s life hell. Anything and everything shitty that they want to do, you protest, you campaign, you petition, you lobby. You tie the whole thing up in so much red tape that Mr I’ve-Never-Had-Anyone-Say-No-To-Me starts loathing his job.

You create private safe zones, you look out for one another, you let your now validated racist, homophobic, transphobic neighbours know that their bigotry will not be tolerated through any means you feel it’s safe to do so. You join forces. Despite everything, you thrive out of spite, out of survival, out of a need to protect your own.

All of these communities have faced untold amounts of hell before and we’re all still here. It’s in our history to survive – in our genetic makeup. There will be losses and there will be casualties but in four years you’ll still be here and you’ll vote him out and the time to grieve will be then. For now, fight. In any way you can, even if all you can do is get through each day at a time. Fight him every step of the way.
