hey! so this is my study space. this past week I was extremely lazy and did nothing productive, which ended up in me having a billion things to do 🙃 but oh well, at least I enjoyed myself and relaxed!

I am struggling to focus on my assignments right now. Lectures and readings are so much more convenient digitally, but I miss sitting in the far corner of the library to work on papers. Technically classes were fully canceled these past two days which is great because it gives me time to help out at work.

19 March 2020 | I’ve been rather quiet lately, but here is a little glimpse into what “social distancing” looks like for me. It just so happened that this was the first semester of my program that I was doing almost entirely by distance anyway so remarkably little has changed for me in how I do my coursework. I’m thankful for how little the present pandemic has disrupted my education and know that very few can say the same. My husband, who was until a couple of days ago in the midst of his clinical rotations for medical school in a nearby emergency department, has been much more directly affected and involved in combating the current outbreak. Join me in praying for our entire world—as no one is unaffected by this virus—for when one suffers we all suffer together, recognizing the value and dignity of every human being be they near or far. 

O Master and Lord, our Savior, Healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. 

19-03-2020 // Day 4 of isolation.

It’s been a strange for basically the world world, I guess. I’ve been working from home since Monday with probably the majority of Dutch people. Schools are closed so my little brother and sister had to pick up homework that they been doing every day.

Supermarkets are almost empty because everyone is acting like we’re never allowed out on the street again. And our prime minister gave a speech on tv this Monday which hasn’t happened since the 80’s.

I hope everyone is safe and healthy and taking care of themselves and others.

20.03.17// First full day of social distancing and self-isolation was pretty productive! Set up camp in my office, answered emails from students, and read all about third-wave fandom scholarship. Here’s hoping the motivation lasts the rest of the week.

So! Now that I’ve opted out of my final exam I can get back to research, my one love. The tricky part about that is that I need to figure out how to actually do research productively at home. I have a smaller desk than I would like, but since i’m not taking notes or anything that should be fine. One thing I would like to do is try and use the fact that I have to establish new routines to work in some new project management ideas that I had a few weeks ago, now that all my time can be devoted to research. These things would include:

So I’m going to experiment with that as well as with how to structure my time with my sorta-bullet journal. The rest of this week will be semi-experimentation with it, so if I don’t get too much done I won’t beat myself up over it. 

The benefit of this is that I have much more time to do the deep work that having lots of meetings and classes disrupted. I’m a fan of deep work, so that’s good. And of course I’ll still be tracking my time just to get an idea of how much work I’m doing, though I won’t be aiming for a specific amount each day. I’m really trying to have a lot of self-compassion right now, since it’s a stressful time, a time of change. And I don’t deal with change very well, unfortunately. Ah well, there’s nothing to do about that. Onwards and upwards!

while i made this blog around a month ago, i have yet post any original content! now that i’m going to start posting, i thought it was a good time to introduce myself.

about me

• i’m 17 + in grade 12

• i’m Canadian

• i’ll be going to college for business at the end of August

• pianist for ~10 years, clarinetist for 4 years, and learning to play bass currently

• the majority of my electives in high school fell under the umbrella of social studies; even though i’m going to college for business, history and anthropology are some of my biggest passions

• in the future, i’d love to work in a museum, start my own business, + try to make somewhat of a living off a music career!

Great idea! I got the company of my hamster at my workspace. My teachers are doing conference videocalls with the classes using Teams, so that's interesting...

📚: the living mountain, by nan shepherd. i'm taking it very easy with this book (one chapter a day) because i love it and i want to let it sink in.

📼: locke & key, at netflix. pretty cool! i'm watching it with the whole family, so no binging, just an episode per night.

🎬: the hundred foot journey, about an indian family who moves to france and opens a restaurant in front of a michelin-starred restaurant. really funny and wholesome.

💭: i got a switch with my siblings, so i've been playing to pokémon, and i'm also completing an oil painting when the weather allows for it!
