A message of love

@ainomessage / ainomessage.tumblr.com

Hi! I'm Katie, I'm 30, and I've been a Sailor Moon fan for around 16 years. This blog is for anything and everything Sailor Moon; I love it in all its incarnations. I post Sailor Moon related translations here as well as at Miss Dream.

It really bugs me when someone refers Sanada Reo (Kunzite from Super Live) as a man. Trans women are WOMEN. And Reo is a really beautiful and talented actress.

While I’m sad to hear some people are misgendering her, I had no idea Reo was transgender! That’s AWESOME news, I’m very happy to hear that Sailor Moon continues to be inclusive of trans folks, and has evolved beyond some of the problematic representation that happened in the past.

First of all, I’m upset that I’m only just now learning Anza is on instagram. But also here is an amazing photo she post for Usagi and Chibiusa’s birthday with Tamaki Shirai (formerly known as Tamaki Dia Shirai), who played Chibi Usa during the first stage in both SuperS musicals plus the first Sailor Stars.   “Today is Usagi and Chibiusa’s birthday. I wonder if the people who might get this photo will actually understand lol. Happy birthday Usa & Chibiusa💕“

Walking In The Rain

I’ve been wanting to make some wallpapers using the “settei” lineart that the Toei animators used as reference to keep the characters consistent. This lineart is by Kazuko Tadano, and the reference is for Usagi’s adorable outfit in episode 6.       Thanks to @silvermoon424 for providing the Settei!

Please click/tap here to download the wallpaper at maximum quality. :)

Rimo is back!

You guys Rimo came back and no one told me. Her insta has been open since April!!  ;_;  So it now seems that she wasn’t leaving the entertainment world at all (as her closing her twitter account seemed to indicate), she was just changing agencies. April is a really common time for this to happen in Japan. (Since the school year ends in April, I assume most contracts run April-April as well).  For anyone else who didn’t know, you can now find her on both instagram and twitter! She’s joined the same agency as Nomoto Hotaru and they’ll be appearing together in the stage adaption of light novel Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi in September.

Sailor Moon Crystal 4

For the record:

I for one am really happy about the decision of bringing back the original character designer Kazuko Tadano.

She’s a real professional, a veteran in the industry and she knows how much Sailor Moon means to so many people around the world.

I don’t expect to be disappointed by her design.

I’m looking forward to see her take on Sailor Moon Crystal!

I had a glass of whiskey and here’s what I want to say.

I fell in love with Sailor Moon in the year 1999. That is almost 20 years ago. There were several reasons I was drawn to it. The action was cool. The animation was different from anything I had seen before. The foreign language was interesting to me.

But the main reason I fell for Sailor Moon so hard because it was queer, it was magical, and it was feminist as fuck.

I have made many friends through the sailor-community. The universe is so dense - from comics, to anime, to musicals, to live action, to updated comics, to new anime, to new musicals, to new stage works, to merchandising out the goddamn ass. We all have particular favourites that resonate with us.

Over the years, I’ve met countless sailor moon fans who didn’t like certain parts of it. And that’s fine. I don’t like parts of it. It can be overly childish. Certain plot holes aren’t fun to explore. The commercial side of it is exhausting. We all have our likes and dislikes.

But the one thing I cannot stand are Sailor Moon fans who selectively ignore what it is. A queer work of art. A magical universe. A feminist narrative through and through.

As a white cisgender man, there is a world of artwork made specifically for me with easy accessibility. But there is a world of artwork not made for me. That does not make it less valid, relevant, or meaningful. If anything, it makes such work more important to me, because I have to challenge myself to find it, to process it, and to understand it.

You do not have to be queer, magical, or feminist to enjoy the stories of Sailor Moon. But to ignore, minimize, or exclude the queer, magical, or feminist narratives is missing the entire point of the story.
