Maybe she was, but would it even be a good idea to show it? Iris was a strong, capable girl. She inherited the strength of her house and made it uniquely her own, but did she really need to see the deep sadnesses in that of the princess? How haunted she still was, remembering how their visit to Insomnia had damned the city to invasion and the king to death. The Fleuret drew in a fortifying breath, know that, no, it wasn’t the time nor place to allow herself weakness. Maybe with Aranea or Crowe, but Iris deserved better. Instead, she mustered up an attempt at a smile to the young Amicitia, dealing that instead of a harsher card.

“Maybe, but do you know what can get through cracks? Light, or water. It can mean freeing something that’s been pent up for too long. What do you think?”

Lunafreya glanced sharply from the book she wasn’t reading from the convenient mart at the Coernix gas station whose trailer they were spending the night in, sharp from Ignis’ words that came like a lance through her throat, rendering it impossible to speak. Reading because Noctis had looked worried when she was left alone last, staring off into space and appearing like a mannequin, fish-eyed and dead. So, the blonde had resolved to look normal. Normal enough so he wouldn’t be haunted by the click and whirring of gears beneath her flesh, the ticking of an internal clock, the chug of oil through her veins. He’d been talking with Gladio, the Shield reading the same book on philosophy as Ignis while they’d been discussing and politely arguing their own views.

Yet, she could’ve sworn it’d been directed at her... had it? All the Fleuret could dwell on was the ruined plain as what had been a sweltering desert hours before became swamped in a sudden blizzard after she’d made a covenant with the Glacian, the assault her father led leaving him forever preserved in a paroxysm of twisted bliss at knowing he would meet his wife after she’d been butchered on his father’s orders that had rendered the man a death-seeker. And, the millions after who died immediately or from a deadly famine that had been her fault, all hers, as the tabloids had decried--

Lunafreya blinked abruptly, startled from her own reverie, as she smiled sheepishly. “Sorry? Were you two talking to me?”

Though the siblings have become estranged since their mother’s untimely death, Lunafreya tries to at least remain close to her sister. Ravus has already been indoctrinated into Niflheim’s cycle of hatred and vengeance, deep in a mire of his own making.
Much of the sylleblossom field had been burned away from the attack twelve years ago. Try as she might, Lunafreya has been unable to regrow them to the full amount that they once were upon the desecrated lands.

The hose in her hand lowers and the water slows to a drip. Her gaze lifts from the dewy drops to her sister. “Yes, I am here, Stella.” Lunafreya steps away and thanks Maria who takes over the task for her. “What is it? Did Umbra and Pryna get into the pantry again?” Lips quirk into a small smile as Stella comes into view.

How else did the younger twin feel except for happy? What illuminated her pattering heart except the luminous adoration for her older twin sister who made her feel so complete, who filled her heart with song? Stella had to resist every urge to skip girlishly towards Luna, the blonde all smiles and secrets, as if she hid them behind her teeth.

“They didn’t, don’t worry,” Stella laughed gaily at her sister’s teasing, stopped short of the flowerbed she seemed to be concentrating on. It made her sad to think that Ravus couldn’t be with them, but thought of him darkened her mind, sometimes.

Because he’d gotten between her and Luna. He still did, sometimes, and she’d never forgive him for it. “Hm, as your queensguard, I should probably watch over you. You could prick your finger on a thorn and cause all sorts of trouble, dear sister.~”

She was made to please the gods by being her sister’s keeper, the protectress whom stood by her side. Stella, the star, compliment to Luna, the moon. That which framed her sister’s radiant glow reflected from the god’s light in a crown of stars to exemplify and protect the chosen Oracle. In the tradition of Niflheim, of their father’s house, her martial raiment is a distant echo of their elder brother’s. Sharp lines line the cream-hued pantsuit and long, pencil skirt and flats she wears, a modest attendance of sharp and angular lines softened by accents suitable for a kinswoman of the Oracle. The gold sabre sheathed at her side bounces with each glad stride, loose waves of gold cascading her back.

“Sister, are you there? Are you in the gardens, again? There’s something I want to show you.”

𝐍𝐎 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄, 𝐍𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓. only a release of suspiration as exhaustion called for his surrender, form seemingly content to lower to meet any surface. even the ground beneath them ━ frozen wood && stone scarcely able to be hidden in their entirety by lengths of carpet ━ certainly had not gone without at least one night’s rest upon it across years past. hm. at least during such times, none had been around to witness it ━ to frown upon him or suggest someplace more ideal.
something so simple as tiredness… ‘twas to be hidden unless doing so ‘ppeared impossible, as though it were a cause for shame && not an instance of one simply being creature && not machine. plenty a time had the elezen wished sleep was no desire of his nor a need, fears of aught going awry during rest clawing at him so that slumber could never truly be peaceful.
nay, it was waking constantly. sleeping lightly. roused by every single sound surely prompted by the worst befalling the people the very moment guard was lowered && he’d the audacity to choose himself over doing something about it, mind would proclaim, hissing && seething as it expected a clairvoyance man did not possess.
not ‘fore long had luna spoke without single utterance that a moment’s respite would not go amiss, fingers combing through midnight waves sending a brief shudder down aymeric’s spine. such things had always been taken for granted, how a touch could feel so pleasant when it wasn’t feared enough to be denied… another sigh. slower, softer this time. moment he fell once again to silence did a hand come to be placed atop her thigh by the knee, as though lap were a pillow.
alright. maybe he would stay here for a little while. that is, if she && the world at large did not mind…

Escaping Deepground hadn’t been simple. What she’d thought would be a last resort had turned only into a nightmare, a dream of manipulating the plague within her and weaponizing it against ShinRa’s enemies. The Sector 7 slums were as far as she’d been able to come, the looming menace of the Plate like some watchful god ready to smite the Oracle. Though she had summons that could do such a thing, Lunafreya was far too exhausted to really even think clearly. With a ragged white tablecloth and soiled tarp to hide the damning bodysuit they’d made experiments like her wear.

Experiments. It was barely any different than what Verstael did in Zegnautus.

“I’m sorry, but do you know where I could find an abandoned house?” she asked of a man she coincidentally found in the street. “I can’t stay out in the open for long, I’m afraid.”

The past few years had passed with nightmarish tribulation, once princess soon Oracle, once free now caged. Sometimes, if she articulated her limbs oddly enough in bed, it felt as though someone plucked out all the feathers that weren’t there. Innocent worry once had been spent over the prince, but now Lunafreya only dreaded when assassins might be sent; those who blamed her for the crown prince’s death as much as the frosty plague she’d wrought upon them all. And in all honesty, she believed them.

Lunafreya walked in lieu of Maria, once their governess, as she led them wordlessly to Fenestala’s gardens. It was difficult to move, let alone breathe, when MT’s and regimented officers of Niflheim alike proved the manor’s halls like predators. A flushed, livid welt on the side of the matron’s face was proof enough of the consequences if one spoke out of turn, and it was a lesson the blonde had learned brutally. The gardens were immaculately maintained, verdant with a warm breeze riding on mild spring rays of the sun. Steeping out in a clean white sundress and sandals, Lunafreya searched for the Lucian boy unfortunate to have been caught up in their mess.

‘Ignis, are you there? It’s almost time for tea and cakes.” Even though it was a luxury more and more difficult to come by.
