I has a prompt. I saw people talking about the houses the sides would be in when the new sanders sides video hadn't come out yet, but this person said that Patton might be in Slythrin and I was like "what?? Why would he be in slythrin? He's not evil" But then I saw their explination and I was like woah that does make sense and I was wondering if you could write a tiny fic about how the sides would react to Patton being put into Slythrin? Just like a Hogwarts au style thing

i love this sooooooooo much

this is one of the worst things I’ve ever written. I’m so sorry this turned out so bad.

“Sanders, Patton!”

The youngest Sanders boy walked nervously up to the stool, trying to smile as he searched the crowd for his brothers. His oldest brother, Logan, stared at him intently from the Gryffindor table. 4th year Roman was standing up at the Ravenclaw table, his eyes shining with pride. 6th year Virgil wasn’t watching Patton but was already moved over so that there was an empty seat for his brother to sit in when he was sorted into Hufflepuff along with Virgil, just like everyone expected. Patton wasn’t so sure though, and his nervousness grew, even more, when the sorting hat was placed on his head.

“Ah yes, Patton, I’ve heard about you. You’re the supposed destined-to-be-Hufflepuff everyone’s been talking about,” the sorting hat mused, and Patton almost felt hopeful. The hat tsked, and his heart fell again.

“Are you sure you want to go there? Wouldn’t you rather go to a house where you could progress and grow, and become the wizard you were meant to be?” the hat said wisely to the anxious eleven-year-old boy. Patton blinked, thinking about it for a moment. He supposed the hat was right. Just because everyone else wanted to be a Hufflepuff didn’t mean he was actually going to be one. He let out a teeny smile and nodded.

The house hummed in approval before saying, “Then it ought to be….Slytherin!” The last table to Patton’ s left erupted into cheers and claps, and a few students even stood up to greet their newest house member. Patton hopped down from the stool, trying to smile as he searched the crowd for his brothers once again. Virgil was talking to a friend, Logan was looking down at the table in shock, and Roman was glaring at Patton with such a ferocious anger that the young wizard was sure holes had been burned through his body. Tears welled up in his eyes and he ran the rest of the way to the table, fighting back those gosh-darn-ding-dang tears in his eyes as he sat down on the bench. He was immediately clapped hard on the back, engulfed in hugs, and greeted so many times he lost count. He smiled once more, looking at the other boys and girls with dull eyes.

The rest of the week was hell. Every time Patton tried to talk to his brothers, they would turn away from him, acting as if he didn’t exist. Virgil was the only one to cast him the occasional pitying glance or squeeze his hand as they passed by one another in the halls, but Logan and Roman made no move to accept Patton’s horrifying stance as a Slytherin. Their father, Thomas, had always taught the four brothers that Slytherins weren’t always evil (he’d been close friends with Scorpius when they went to school), but it seemed that Patton and Virgil had been the only ones to listen to that lesson.

“Hey, snake-face! Where are you going in such a hurry?” Patton walked faster, clutching his books tightly to his chest as he was followed closely by a group of older students, his brother Roman included in the mass.

“Just get to the dungeons. Just get to the dungeons and it’ll be fine,” Patton whispered to himself, trembling a bit as the taunting voices of the older boys began to creep closer.

“He asked where you were going!” Roman shouted, and the comment was quickly followed by a chorus of hideous laughter. Patton’s heart leaped into his throat and he was about to break into a run when he was grabbed by the back of his robe and shoved against the wall, his head slamming against it with a sickening crack. He groaned, black dots dancing in front of his eyes. Through the haze, he could see that the boy holding him wasn’t his brother, but a 7th-year boy from Gryffindor.

“P-Please let me go, I need to get to potions,” Patton said hurriedly, keeping his eyes cast down and praying that the older boy would show him some mercy. Instead, all he got was a laugh and his feet being knocked out from under him. Patton saw Roman’s surprised face before a foot came flying towards him, and his head snapped back with the force of the kick, a loud crack sounding as his head smacked against the wall and his nose broke, blood flowing freely. Patton groaned in pain and curled up into a ball, tears welling up in his eyes as kicks and punches continued to come his way.

“Stop! Stop it, leave him alone!” someone shouted. The pain kept coming and Patton let out a quiet moan, tears dripping down his face and nose onto the floor. Roman was there and he wasn’t doing anything. Logan didn’t care. Virgil was too scared to help. Patton was alone. He was destined to be evil, to be a monster, to hurt people, and he was getting what he deserved. He cracked an eye open and saw Roman looking down at him, surprised, amused, even happy, as one of his friends kicked him again. Patton screamed and cried and tried to curl up tighter, hiding his face in his hands.

“Crucio!” another person said with glee, and Patton shrieked, eyes blowing wide with pain as his body jerked and twitched. Every atom felt as if it were on fire, burning his flesh away and rocketing through his veins like poison. He couldn’t even scream anymore, his mouth gaping open silently, beads of sweat on his forehead.

“I SAID STOP IT!” the person howled again, and Patton gasped in surprise as the pain was suddenly gone, and someone grabbed him by the collar and yanked him upwards. He screamed and flailed blindly at the person holding him, only to be dragged away and then clung to like a lifeline. Still sobbing and shaking in terror, Patton looked up to see Virgil looking down at him with a stricken face, trails of moisture that matched Patton’s already on his face. He glanced at the boys who had been kicking him, his breath hitching in surprise as he saw Logan repeatedly punching a guy he had pinned up against a wall, his eyes filled with blind rage.

“STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY BROTHER!” Logan roared, throwing one last hit before letting the poor student go, watching him run off in terror. Breathing heavily, Logan turned back to face Patton, who was clinging to Virgil and crying openly, his knuckles white from clenching his robes. Roman hung back as Logan knelt down on one knee and opened his arms up to their youngest brother, who sobbed and flung himself into Logan’s arms. Swallowing hard, he bowed his head in shame.

“T-Thank you! Thank you s-so much!” Patton wailed, his voice muffled since his face was buried in Logan’s shoulder. The Gryffindor held onto his brother tightly, his heart filled with regret as he saw the blood and tears smeared on the front of Patton’s robes. This was their fault.

“Don’t thank us, Pat. If we had just…accepted you in the first place, this wouldn’t have happened. We could’ve protected you,” Logan mumbled into Patton’s hair, rocking slightly back and forth. Patton sniffled and nuzzled into the crook of Logan’s neck.

“N-No…i’s okay. I understand. Y-You don’t…you don’t have to pretend. Roman isn’t,” Patton said quietly, his voice sounding so broken. The three other brothers were silent, and Virgil glanced at Roman coldly, eyes looking his 14-year-old brother up and down judgingly.

“You told me you’d help him.”

“I-I know, but-”

“You promised me. You swore on your honor you’d try to accept him.”

“I know I did. I’m sorry! I didn’t know they were going to hurt him!” Roman said with his eyes clenched shut. “That’s no excuse, I know, there isn’t any, but I promise that I didn’t want to hurt Pat.” Patton’s shoulders trembled and he shook his head.

“I deserved it. It’s fine,” Patton muttered.

“No,” Virgil said, his voice sharp. “No, you didn’t. God damn it, Pat, why do you have to think like that?” Patton blinked and looked at his older brother, watching as he scrubbed frustrated tears out of his eyes. “Everyone….everyone thought I was going to be a Slytherin. I should’ve been there for you more. I should’ve d-done something,” Virgil choked out.

“We all should have done something. Pat, if this is anyone’s fault, it is ours. Can you forgive us? Them, at least?” Roman asked quietly, unable to meet the other boy’s eyes. Patton kept his head against Logan’s chest, dazed and confused at this sudden exchange of guilt and blame.

“I…I forgive you. I forgive all of you. It’s okay,” Patton said. Roman burst into tears and Virgil scooped Patton up into his arms, swooping him away from Logan and hugging him tightly as he spun around. Patton laughed for the first time in ages as he hung onto Virgil tightly, forehead pressed to his, eyes closed in content.

“W-We…We should take you to the infirmary, Patton. Can I take you?” Roman asked as Virgil set Patton down and ruffled his hair. Patton glanced at the other nervously, biting his lip and twisting the sleeve of his robes in his hands.

“Okay, Ro…” Patton said, holding out his hand for the other to take.

I made these in response to hate crimes in my community. They are full size and free to download and print if you’d like to use them, too.

Since these are going around, I wanted to fill in some of the gaps! Here are seven more posters for communities under threat. As with the first set, these are completely free to download, print, share, repost, etc with no credit needed. This is open source activism.

I can never hope to cover every community, but in light of these difficult times, I wanted to make the additions above. Hopefully, you would be able to find the poster you need to respond to any type of violence in your community. These are especially meant for allies who want to state loudly that they are here to stand with vulnerable members of society. Remember: if you just say “everyone is welcome”, some secret bigot agreeing with you is marking an asterisk in their head beside a vulnerable group they hate. Be specific. Stand up. Resist.

Honestly Anxiety’s room would’ve been the easiest to figure out how everyone would act in there but that’s been handed to us.

What I wanna know is what Logic’s room would do to them. I haven’t seen anybody talking about his room that I can remember. Do they all just see things more clearly? I feel like it wouldn’t be nearly as dramatic as the other rooms.

I feel like Patton would start using all those Big Words he knows.

Virgil (or one of the others, idk but I just picture him doing this) randomly spews knowledge and slams his hand over his mouth like “wtf just happened”.

Roman starts spitting out pop culture trivia. Virgil has a bunch of distressing/depressing facts and charts. Patton, to everyone’s surprise knows a lot about philosophy because that has to do with morals.

the emotional sides (patton and virgil) would get corrupted v easily in there by the logical thinking and weak emotions of logan, i think maybe virgil would be affected more since when i get anxious i usually try to reason to myself why logically everything is fine

This post keeps getting better.

I feel like it would become a lot more civilized and debate like. Like the more it effect them the less emotional they become. And I love the idea of Patton using all the big words he knows and everyone being like “How?” And him just smiling.

I feel his room would be drastic to Thomas’s personality because he’s such an emotional and creative person. So with the corrupting of two emotional Sides and his creativity becoming logical Thomas himself might become too cold and too logical.

But what do you think would be the eyeshadow color. I say ice blue.

Or maybe there’ll be no eyeshadow. It makes a lot of sense for Virgil as he wears it anyway, but maybe the Sides outfits slowly become more professional the longer they’re in there.

I can just think that Virgil in Logic’s room is a very scary idea. Because the arguments he normally uses to get Thomas anxious are cognitive distortions and fallacies, but, by acquiring logical thinking his arguments would be much more convincing.

Normally, one would be able to battle anxiety with logical thinking, but what if you can’t? And that logical thinking turns against you so you have no way to overcome it??

@chocolatey-umbreon  You.  I like you.  I’m also in awe and a little frightened of your brain.  Because fuck that’s terrifying.

oh my god I never thought about this before

and imagine things like, princes sash turns into a tie

or anxiety’s jacket becoming a suit

and morality wearing his cardigan instead of having it wrapped around his shoulders

Okay but why would they be going into Logan’s room? Did Logan clock out because Patton kept making fun of him for a simple error? Could it be because Logan thought of himself as a buzzkill?

How would Thomas act on account of Logan leaving? Would he be terrified? Or would he be bubbly and just shooting off at the mouth?

How would Roman take it? Logic gets in the way of dream chasing, so would Roman be okay with it? Or would Roman be concerned that Thomas didn’t have a relative plan to follow?

How about Patton? Would he be confused? Or maybe he would be the one who feels the worse because he always made fun of Logans simple mistakes

And Virgil. How would he feel? Would he be less grounded? More anxious? Less anxious? Would he be mad at Patton?

Okay I doubt Logan would ever leave. That’s illogical. But this is really fascinating to think about.

Logan is interested in how things work. Maybe Thomas loses at least part of his curiosity.

If Logan left it’d probably be to teach a lesson, honestly. Feels like they’re all not listening to him and he now knows that for this universe the videos take place in “clocking out” is an option so he figures out how to do that and decides this is how he teaches a lesson.

But like I said he probably wouldn’t leave.

This sounds to me to like when your mom is tired of you laying around and tells you you’ll never get anywhere by being that lazy when she’s no longer helping.

He would snap and go to show them what a mess they’re life would be without him.

And the others will notice how bad everything is without Logan when Thomas is doing nothing but still anxious about it. Like when you’re procrastinating your work, you’re still stressed that you’re doing nothing and you still keep leaving it for later.

And since Logan is the one who gets their discussions on order, like a debate, it would be the other three just shouting at each other and getting to no compromise.

Okay that means everything would be messy without Logan but to put the thought in a new direction wouldn’t it be creepy af if Patton left (for whatever reason)?

Because Patton is his morality his heart so to say. If he left Thomas would be cold, without empathising towards stuff. And without any morals.

I honestly think that would throw the others off the most.

Roman needs Patton for his creativity, Virgil obviously likes Patton because he is the only one who loves him no matter what and without that I think the others would be even harsher towards him especially since anxiety would be the main feeling inside of Thomas. Logan even though he wouldn’t have anyone who annoys him without Patton Thomas’ decisions would be strictly analytical but also guided by anxiety.

And who wants a Sociopath with Anxiety?

That could be terrifying. He’d basically just be left with self hatred, fear, shame, and cinicism. Just scared in the corner. He might have a filter but it would be built on what others think of him rather than his good nature. That sounds like a horrible existence. Afraid with no hope. Creativity with no passion. Intelligence with no direction.

It’s hard to picture. I have a hard time seeing how it could stay funny.

Okay this got a thousand times better from the last time I saw it.

I feel like if Patton left we’d have more of the sociopath route because Thomas literally cannot care about anything or anyone. We’d have a blunt and unfeeling Thomas, a Thomas who doesn’t care if he hurts people, a Thomas who can’t stop the bubbling feeling in his chest as panic rises. A Thomas who doesn’t know how to deal with the feeling so he lashed out on his sides or his friends? We’ve got a Thomas instead tries to help people, he manipulates them because he has no morals and he will do what he can to get what he wants. We have a Thomas that doesn’t laugh.

We have a Thomas who does things on the basis of fear alone.

We have a Thomas who is incredibly smart but doesn’t use his brain to aid others out of sheer good will (think BBC Sherlock first season)

As for his creativity? Don’t forget that Roman is cannonily creativity and passion. So we still have this amazing creative brain… but it gets really dark and cynical. He doesn’t care if what he’s created is harming others. It’s based on facts and spreadsheets and many of those facts are not good.

Because now we have educational videos, we have songs that are threaded with scary themes because now Roman only has the emotional backing of Virgil, we have vines that deal with racism or sexism but with no upside, they’re just stating what’s happening. (Thomas wouldn’t become a racist/sexist because logically there’s no reason for anyone to be looked down upon because of the amount of melanin in ones skin or what parts they happen to have).

I think creativeity without morality/positive emotions would be the most interesting personally.

Wow, this really GOT better. Thanks @abstractedthinking! I want to see Thomas play this role really badly now. It would be so interesting to see his take on this. His chance to play a really BAD guy. LOL

Strange Things Did Happen Here Part 1

My second attempt at a Sanders Sides fic! It’s going to be a lot longer than my previous fic, it’s 6 chapters long! I’m excited! This can also be read on ao3. Title comes from the song The Hanging Tree from the Hunger Games series.

Relationships: Prinxiety

Warnings: Suicide, Suicide Attempt, Self-Hatred

Summary: Virgil tries to hang himself but it unaware of the one rule that governs what the sides can do: they cannot die. This, of course, causes Virgil to suffer. (Takes place as an AU before Accepting Anxiety).

I can’t take it, I can’t take it, I CAN’T TAKE IT.

Memories of the other sides raced through his head: the disgusted glances, the annoyed glares, their angry faces. Logan either screeching at him (FALSEHOOD!) or calmly picking apart his every sentence, explaining exactly how he was wrong. Roman’s constant insults, wearing him down day after day. Patton’s disapproving features and disappointed sigh whenever he made Thomas anxious over something that didn’t really matter. His own nightmares that kept him awake at night that consisted of the others yelling at him, telling him how absolutely worthless he was and how much better Thomas would be if he would just die already.

Virgil’s breath hitched and his fingers shook as his hands fumbled trying to tie the last knot. He was right on the verge of a panic attack, his own spiraling thoughts threatening to push him over the edge. He desperately tried to calm himself down; he couldn’t panic now of all times, after all, it was almost over.

Breathe in for four seconds, hold for seven seconds, and breathe out for eight seconds.

Virgil went through his breathing techniques as he tightened the rope and stepped back to take in his room. He had pushed all the furniture to the sides of the room in order to keep the middle clear for the noose that he had spent the last three hours setting up. His laptop was still open to the tab showing information about how to tie the noose and construct the rigging. Virgil had to manipulate his room in order to make the ceilings higher so when he fell, he wouldn’t hit the ground.

All that was left in the center of the room was a chair that resembled Thomas’s dining room chairs. Virgil would have to stand on the back of it and kick it out from underneath him.

Virgil took another shuddering breath and looked at the white note that he had placed in his traditional spot on the stairs next to his headphones. The handwriting in it was sloppy and there were a couple teardrops but it got his point across. He was useless, pointless, worthless. All he did was bring Thomas down. He made him overly anxious about tiny things that never mattered in the big picture. He shot down all of Princey’s ideas, made Patton sad, and caused Logic to be ignored. All he did was harm those few people that he loved. If that was his purpose in life… then he didn’t want to live this life anymore.

He had wondered if there would be negative effects of his suicide on Thomas. In fact, he panicked for hours over the thought while trying to come up with the answer. Virgil thought he knew what would happen. His hypothesis was that Thomas would be completely free of anxiety for a while, but not permanently. Virgil knew that no anxiety at all would cause harm to Thomas and his reputation, but it needed to be less than what he caused in order to be healthy. His reasoning was that after his death, a new Anxiety would form. The different sides formed at different times, surely new ones could form. After all, just because Thomas didn’t have a side for that particular trait didn’t mean he didn’t have it.

Virgil was counting on the others to control and regulate the new Anxiety so he wouldn’t have the same malevolent power over Thomas that Virgil had. He felt sorry for his future replacement and the existence he would live, but his misery made him selfish. Besides, if the new Anxiety didn’t make Thomas so anxious and unhappy, maybe he could be happy. Maybe the other sides would accept him.

It was time to stop stalling. He knew this, but he still had some doubts. If the sides did care about him at all…. No, that was a foolish thought. Virgil sighed, the noose was ready, and he was ready to die.

He climbed up onto the chair and reached up to grab the noose. Virgil used it to help balance him when he stepped up onto the back of the chair. He wobbled a bit, but was able to get his head through the noose. Tears ran down his face but it didn’t smear his makeup. It was one of the benefits of living in someone’s mind and not having to conform to the rules that ran reality. One of the benefits that he would no longer have.

Virgil looked around his room, trying to decide what the last thing he was going to see was. His eyes settled on his Nightmare Before Christmas posters that were set up in the corner that mirrored Roman’s spot in Thomas’s living room. He had regrets, of course. Everybody had regrets. He regretted that he could never fit in with the other sides. He regretted that he could never help Thomas. He regretted that he could never enjoy his life. He regretted being too cowardly to tell the others his name in any way other than a suicide note. He regretted that he never showed the other sides how much he loved them.

Stop stalling you worthless coward. Virgil flinched at the thought but agreed. He took one last shaky breath, and in one movement kicked out the chair from underneath him. Virgil fell and the last thing he felt was his neck snapping before the darkness came.

Virgil felt a painful tingling in his neck and reached up to rub it but he felt rope. His eyes shot open as he remembered. He had killed himself. He had hanged himself. But he was alive. His neck was in one piece.

And he was choking.
