rp tips and tricks
1) xkit. if you don’t have this i honestly don’t know how you’re surviving on tumblr. there’s so many add-ons that they have that make everything about rping so so so much easier. you can find them under new xkit. don’t forget, the old xkit is no longer working so make sure you use the new one!
2) threadtracker. if you’re like me, once you draft something to reply about it, you forget it’s even there. so threadtracker is a lifesaver honestly. and now they even had a quickadd browser extension that makes everything even easier. you just pull up your thread, click the little button on your browser and it pulls it right up for you to type in your name of choice and voila all done. you can even stick on starters that you owe, or even replies that you need to do for starters made for you. easy peasy!
3) sessionbox. this is mostly for people with multiple blogs. this little fancy extension allows you to be logged into multiple blogs all in one window. so no more having 500 chrome profiles to be on all your blogs at once. this lets you have them in one window with multiple tabs to make things so much easier. you can name them, give them different colors, and all that good stuff to separate them. it’s honestly a definitely lifesaver too.
4) the email trick. so a lot of people probably know this one. but it’s a quick little trick for making new blogs. instead of having to worry about making a million different email addresses and remembering them all for every single blog you have, you can do a nice little shortcut. all you have to do is take whatever email address you want and add +whatever to it. so, example: blahblah@gmail.com being your base email and say you’re making a blog for a character named fred, you would make it blahblah+fred@gmail.com or something along those lines. then you can definitely keep up with the email. and yes, it does still work with the yahoo junk too.
5) stylish. this is a nifty little ad-on that is somewhat similar to xkit, in that you can change the way your dash looks. i have a few things added to it to make my eyestrain less than it normally is with brighter colors tumblr has set up on here. they have a ton of things for tumblr too that you can do to change it. just do a tumblr search and see what they have that you can use.
6) rph blogs and musings blogs. honestly there’s a ton of them. dear-indies is one of my go to blogs for a lot of things. you can find icons, manips, tutorials, and masterlists all over their blog. (masterlists are a great way to get started in a new fandom as well, fyi.) doing a few searches on here will bring up plenty of them if you just take a few moments to look. there’s a ton of resources out there for rpers.
7) f.lux. if you have any eye problems like me then sometimes screens are way too bright no matter how low you have the brightness set. so f.lux is this nifty little thing that dims your screen and gives it a bit of a yellow tint based on the time. it helps make whites not so bright and glaring in your face, especially at night. you can set it up however you want it, to lessen the tint or make it darker. if you’re prone to migraines from screen brightness this thing is amazing. and you can always just switch it off when you’re working on something color sensitive like icons or things like that!
8) mycopper. if you make your own icons and such, but don’t have the time or means to cap your own episodes, this thing is pretty great (i’m actually using it right now). it downloads entire photo galleries in a few minutes. all you do is download it (safe download), go to the gallery you want to download (make sure you’re actually inside the gallery and not in the gallery list), copy and paste the link into my copper (usually has the word thumbnail inside it), choose where you want to save it, and download! it’s really great and definitely easier than going through and saving one by one (which i used to do).
everything above has a link to something that’s either a download or the website for more information except the email trick. that’s all i can think of right now. i’ve been around for awhile and definitely have my dash and rp blogs set up in ways that are easy to navigate and work with thanks to all these awesome resources. ♥
