“Sam. I’m Death. I can do anything. Well. Except raise the dead. Sort of.” Her shoulders shrugged. “Well let me see what you have at least.”

He nodded his head, rolling his shoulders before jogging a distance away from her. He shrugged off his jacket, looking over to her before he brought his fists up.

“Unfortunately.” He grumbles. He knew them too well. Knew the shit they could get into and cause.
“Let’s just say…This isn’t my first time in such a place. Or situation. You may not remember, but I do..” And he never learns apparently. “Something..draws me here.”

“Draws you?”

Those words really concerned him as he approached the man. Though, he kept a distance before asking, “What exactly made you come here? If it was some sort of shadow, we need to get you out of here. It’s not safe.”

The Herald shakes his head, tsking a couple of times. Once again taking some calculated steps towards the other. Well, as calculated as he could get. He wasn’t very good at foreseeing things.
❝This place really isn’t as large as you’d imagine. You just check everywhere and sooner or later you’ll stumble across somebody associated with light.❞ Mr. S͞cr͢at͡c̛h’s tone is nonchalant.

He had to wait patiently and then there it was. Scratch just stepped just close enough to make him uncomfortable but also in range. It was a small attack but it should hopefully send the man back enough to let him shut the garage manually and bring the light back into the house.

Slamming his fist into the ground, a wave of light burst from the center, spreading from him as the shadows were pushed by the brightness and towards the edges of the room. Should it work, Scratch would have been sent out of the garage and into the darkness of the forest... hopefully.

“Because.. You’re protecting yourself. I don’t know from who. But I do know what you’re trying to.” She sighed and moved her hand. Tears slowly began to run down her cheeks. “I’m sorry.. If I ever did wrong by you..”

“Whoa hey!”

Samuel sprung on to his feet, rushing to her before searching for something dry. Finding a couple of clean napkins, he handed it to her while saying, “You... I don’t think you did anything wrong. You haven’t done anything wrong by me recently, I know that.”

Stan is pulled out of his own thoughts, giving an unnecessary inhale.
“I work as a police chief. Though, you knew me before I settled into that job. And yes, I know Aubrey..”

“So you would at least know about the Dark Presence,” Samuel pondered to himself before he realized something.

“Wait... why are you here? I mean, you say we know each other, but I don’t think visiting someone in the Dark Place is a good idea, even with you being a police officer.”

Avatar
“There was one time I stuck a snail under your pillow during a sleep over. You screamed like a girl.” She laughed softly. “You got so mad at me that you didn’t talk to me for three days. The third day you didn’t talk to me. I gave you my favorite pencil.”

“Favorite pencil?”

He tried to think back on it, hoping that an image would appear in his mind. Alas, nothing came to his mind as he let out a defeated sigh.

“...nothing... why can’t I remember anything?”

Avatar
“Who am I? Well. That’s going to be a bit of a tougher answer than just asking my name.” Stan rubs the back of his neck. Where to even begin. What would Samuel even remember? If he could.
“I…guess you can say that.” Unfortunately. How much did he want to disclose?

Samuel waited for an answer, staring at the man.

After a long moment of silence, Samuel asked, “Uh... maybe what is your job? What do you do? Do you know Aubrey?”

Avatar
“N-nobody.” She covered her mouth before standing up straight. Aubrey took a step back. “Just.. Never mind it. Okay? Maybe we should talk about something else.”

“I... alright...”

He wanted to press on about it, but seeing how she was closing up on the subject, Samuel could only reluctantly agree.

“...do you have any embarrassing stories about me?”

Avatar
“I know. And I wish I could tell you everything. But.. It would only leave you confused. Maybe worse. It’s almost a good thing you don’t remember me. I.. I don’t know what it could do to you both..” She was stressed. Thinking about it now. How could she go back?..

“Both? Who are you talking about?”

Samuel had grown even more confused at this point, sitting up straight on his bike as he waited for an answer he was hoping to hear. Just who was she referring to?

Avatar
“It’s not your fault.” Stan knew Samuel probably had gotten defaulted again. Honestly, he felt sorry for the kid.
After some consideration as to whether he wanted to get into this again or not, he sighs and reintroduces himself. “Stan Norman.”

“Samuel Zane... but I guess you know that.”

He chuckled nervously before asking, “So, who are you, Stan? Maybe I can get an idea or something if I know who you are. I probably can say you have fought against the Dark Presence since you got in here rather easily.”

Avatar
“You’re not weird or a creep. I mean look at us. We were foolish kids in school. Now we’re fighting the Darkness. Seeing things no one should see.” A hand went over his. “Sam. My heart will never forget you. Ever.”

“So... I guess we’ve dated before, is what you’re implying,” he assumed, sighing as he brought the towel back on top of his head to dry his hair.

“...Just... seems awkward, really. I only know the feeling, but I still don’t know you...”

Avatar
She laughed softly. “You used to be like that. Shy. Well sometimes you were. There were times you surprised even me.” Aubrey leaned forward a bit. “You can be be honest with me. I don’t bite that hard.”

“Well...”

He cleared his throat and reciprocated her movements on his bike.

“I... you are nice and I just feel that... I don’t want to sound weird or a creep... but I think you’re right on me knowing you.”

Avatar
The man sighs. He couldn’t help but feel like he’s been here before. He settles down, halfway sitting on a stack of crates nearby, arms crossing as he stares at a point on the floor. “I did. But I’m not quite sure how much that matters anymore.”

Samuel blinked a bit before solemnly looking down at his bike. “I’m... I guess I can only say sorry... but I’m trying to remember as much as I can.”

Smiling, he looked up at the man and stated, “Aubrey’s told me a few things... so, maybe you can do the same. You... what’s your name?”

Avatar
“Way before. Since we were kids. But something bad happened when we left that life. Really bad.” She sighed. “It’s best not to talk about it. But maybe I could fill in some other blanks.” She smiled. “Do.. Do you like me, Sam? It’s just every time I’m around. You light up. Uh. Figuratively.”

“So... we grew up together...”

As he tried to delve into his thoughts to try and see those memories, the next question nearly made him blush from head to toe.

“Wh-wha? I... that’s... well...”

     “Do you even remember me?”

Samuel lowered his wrench from his motorcycle, staring a bit at the man who asked him that question. Tilting his head, he gave a nervous smile and confessed, “I think I’ve forgotten some important things... Aubrey said as much... did... did you know me before?”

Avatar
“I.. I know you don’t really know me well. And I know a bit about you. So.. I think that’s a little unfair. I’m sure you have a few questions about me. I just want you to know that you can always ask me anything. Anything you want to know.”
She finally turned to him. “I must have acted so strange when we first met, huh?..”

“Oh...”

Hearing her slight confession, he nodded his head before looking out to the darkness that was on the border of his home. Looking back at the woman, he replied, “Well... you said you knew me from before. I take it before we became what we are, right?”
