occasionally people i follow will reblogged anti-rpf posts and it always make me feel deeply uncomfortable about my own place in fandom and with my engagement with rpf because I write it and I'm aware of the fictitious nature of what I'm writing but anti rpf discourse re: privacy, the idea that it is simply fetishisation, robs men of the idea that they can be "just" friends with other men. idk i just want to write and be happy.

my advice is to write and be happy!!!

imagining the interiority of celebrities is not a pasttime that’s exclusive to fandom—look at entertainment media as a whole! not to mention the entire genre of historical fiction/drama and projects like Hamilton or The Crown or a hundred other based-on-real-events stories. look at every book, show, and museum about world war ii and the lives of its soldiers! we aren’t the only ones doing this, is my point, but by and large we are the only ones being treated like shit about it—and that is absolutely gendered. your work is being regarded through a lens that infantilizes and discredits the passions and labor of women, and makes the assumption that because you engage in this hobby, you’re a ripe target for misogynistic strategies of shame and control.

RPF is not just a creative & emotional challenge. the “relationships” we form with our imagined versions of these people actually fall into the category of parasocial relationships. that’s the idea of forming connections that are emotionally important, meaningful, and let us explore something important for ourselves & our sense of social relationships, through the format of how we relate to fictional or *fictionalized* versions of people. rich parasocial relationships are linked to intelligence, emotional depth, and empathy—as long as we know we aren’t forming bonds to real versions of these people. we may be internet flotsam & fringe, but we aren’t delusional. we don’t deserve to be treated like we are.

when I write RPF, i am writing about a pete wentz I have made into fiction. I know he’s not real and that if I met the real pete wentz, I wouldn’t know him. that doesn’t matter to me. I explore so many important-to-me issues and complexities by imagining the interior of this man and his interpersonal dynamics with imagined others. doing that while creating emotional continuity and playing within the “rules” of real-life events is a combination of research and creativity that challenges me uniquely as a writer—plus, it forms a shared universe for me and my friends. and we enjoy ourselves there! because I don’t do anything to infringe on his actual privacy and I don’t try to interact with him about my fic, I consider this to be a harmless pastime.

now this thing about how rpf shipping somehow destabilizes public perception of friendships between men… like… what?? that is such a blatant and misogynistic attempt to limit and control what women enjoy! we are not personally responsible for The Culture™️’s view of masculine intimacy, and what we scream into our personal void on ao3 doesn’t impact it *at all.* who reads our stories but people who are deliberately seeking them out and engaging with them? whoever is putting that pressure on you is, in my opinion, full of shit. the VAST majority of ‘great’ and classic western literature and film is obsessively focused on the inter- and intrapersonal relationships of men with men, and the VAST majority of those so-called classics that dominate intellectual and cultural spaces could not pass a single feminist critique like the Bechdel or Mako Mori test. all of which is to say: I assure you, there are ample fucking representations of friendships between men in our culture. we do not need to curb our private recreational activities in order to protect the perception of these poor, helpless fragile creatures. we do not need to edit ourselves for the protection of men who are entirely too famous to ever even know we exist.

all of this is to say: to the anti-RPFers of the world, please employ the time-honored tradition of “don’t like, don’t read.” whatever your hobbies and favorites are, I wish you joy of them. fuck off and extend the same benefit to others!

and to my RPF crew and my fellow tinhats: write and be happy. block people who treat you like shit and fill your blog with things that make you lighter til you shine like the fucking sun. life is too short to fill our hearts with bitterness, and maybe one day the people who seek to make us unhappy will realize it too. I am sorry people have been unkind to you, and I hope you do not allow them to spoil any of your joy.

Septiplier Porn AU (part 7)

Author’s note: I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time. Please help me.

The day before.
On Friday, Jack wakes up to the sun streaming in through his blinds and onto his face. A sudden rush of elation settles over him as he sits up. For some reason he feels excited about today, and he just can’t help but send a message to Mark.
‘how do ya feel abt a brunch date?’
Not five seconds later he gets a message back. ‘It’s breakfast AND lunch AND you! how can I lose?’
Jack smiles at his phone and stretches out onto his bed.
**
They meet at eleven at the park across from Mark’s building. Mark smiles sweetly when he sees him, and greets him with an awkward bro hug.
They sit outside, Jack with a sausage roll and Mark with a banana thickshake and a bag of cookies he brought himself. “There are no food rules with brunch,” he states firmly, throwing a cookie into the air and sputtering when it hits his nose instead of his mouth.
“We’d have to ask the inventor of brunch to verify that,” Jack laughs.
“Oh, yes, of course” Mark says, bumping Jack’s elbow with his own. “Hey, how much do you bet that the inventor of brunch was gay.”
“Well,” Jack says, pretending to mull it over, “It is the gayest time of the day.”
“Isn’t it though?” Mark smiles, then a peaceful silence falls between them as he takes a long sip of his shake.

Hii! I just read all your septiplier fics on ao3 and brojob os my favorite of alltime! Wanted to know how u write them so well? And how ďo you write porn ? Any tips for new author like me? Sorry for mistakes english is not my first language and on mobile

Aw nonny! This is so great ‘cause I never get the chance to talk about how I write stuff!

Warning! NSFW advice below, results may vary!

What I learned about writing porn is… not to do the whole 1-2-3 finger prep and bang and ~orgasm afterglow~ it’s been done a million times and it’s boring.

There’s nothing wrong with the formula, but how many times have you read something like this:

Character A slicked up his fingers and inserted one, then two, then three of his long digits into Character B’s quivering, chocolate starfish. Then, parting the handsome, probably blonde, B-named boy’s legs, he slipped his 12 inch, uncut, veiny, thick shaft into the cavernous mystery hole.
Then their eyes blacked out/ they saw stars/ their life flashed before their eyes as they orgasmed in unison like eight times.
The End, pls review I will literally blow you for a review. (✿◠‿◠)

Yeah, no. It’s boringly generic and could be about anyone. Writing sex like that puts the story to a stop and literally adds nothing of substance.

Here are some tips I follow to make a sex scene more interesting, and even to a non-sexual story:

  1. Let your characters talk to one another! Whether it’s playful, angry, or shy, let them communicate in a way you think they would in whatever situation you’ve put them in.
  2. Show don’t tell! Instead of saying Character A’s dick was 13.2 inches girthy, let them show that through touch. Maybe through the perspective of Character B wrapping his fingers around the length of A’s cock and not being able to close his hand around it.
  3. Use big kid words! No to “rod”, no to “throbbing member”; say penis, erection, dick, prick. No to “chocolate starfish”or “winking chasm”;  say hole, anus, rectum, pucker. If the characters you’re writing are old enough to have sex, then they’re old enough to say cock ffs.
  4. Know your characters! Know how they speak, what little habits or tics they have, and if you don’t or aren’t sure then make some up! Maybe Character A taps his foot when he’s nervous, maybe B bites his nails and rubs his eyes a lot. Who knows! But keep it consistent and it can add a surprising amount of realism.
  5. Make it matter! Sex is fun to write, but it can often be so generic that it’s one of the things people will often skip over when reading your story. Make it matter to the story and to the characters. It doesn’t matter if it’s only two paragraphs or one, but if it’s integral to the couple in your story, then don’t just make it a meaningless “this is the part where they fuck” blip in your story. Don’t make it easy for readers to skip over your sex scene- make it count.
  6. It’s sex! Have fun with it, change it around, focus on foreplay or don’t, it’s all up to you!

That’s it! Hope it makes sense and helps ✌
