I’m tired of people asking Elriels why we ship Elriel. Elain and Azriel like each other. I ship characters that want to be together. Since when did it become a problem to ship canon characters?
Why do you ship people that can’t stand to be around each other or people that have had like two interactions with each other?

Happy Elriel month, friends!! I’m so excited for this beautiful celebration of these 2 beauties, and I can’t wait to see what everyone has come up with, and to show yall what I have! Today, we have this sweet and beautiful moment between Elain and Azriel. We’ve seen how they both love spending time in each other’s company and indulging in the light that they find in each other. This prompt of “Clandestine Meetings” is my absolute favorite for Elriel month this year! If Az just “wanted a mate” then why has he been dreaming of Elain for a year? Why has he been getting off to the thought of her almost every night for a year? Why has he been staring at her gift for a year? Why would he be attracted to Elain even though she’s mated to another? Why can he, and no one else, smell their bond when Elain and Lucien haven’t accepted it? Why does that bond make him so physically sick he can’t even be in the same room as them? Why did he go crazy with rage when Elain was taken by hybern? Why would he question his own religion over Elain? Why does he get broodier the longer he goes without “being” with Elain? If the thought of gwyn smiling made his chest spark, then why was he so pissed at Rhys that he threw rock filled snowballs at him the next day or why didn’t he get closer to gwyn or care that she was taken in the rite or check on her afterwards? Why? Why? Why?
Until these questions get answered, I will never be able to accept Elucien or gwynriel.
But until then, it kinda sounds like he wants ELAIN, not just a mate.

PEACE. WITHIN AND AROUND HIM
To realize that he is:
Worthy of love
Loved by his family for WHO he is as a person
Not defined by his traumatic past and actions
Allowed to fight for who or what he wants
This male has been:
- Locked up in a cell for ELEVEN years by his stepmother, only being let out an hour a day and an hour a WEEK to see his mother
- Burned ruthlessly by his half brothers at the age of eight, resulting in burns on his hands that didn't fully heal, leaving scars (which he's STILL extremely self-conscious about after 500 years)
- Surrounded by darkness and shadows for years without sunlight as a child
- Forbidden to train and fly while he lived with his father, something that's taught to Illyarians as a BABY
- Shipped off to an Illyarian camp when his father found out he was a shadowsinger
- Mocked as a bastard child alongside Rhys and Cassian
- Hated by the Illyarians for his immense power due to being a bastard child (Illyarians valued patricharcy more than anything)
- Separated from his friends for seven years during the war. (Rhys' father was FEARFUL of the bat boys being together because of their power)
- Assigned as the spymaster by Rhys' father and was forced to do all his dirty work (we don't know what ALL Rhys' father made Azriel do during the war, and he was a ruthless male)
- Pinning over Mor for over 500 years, even finding out Cassian slept with her
- Thinking he is only of value to his friends for his work as a spymaster
- Almost killed twice (once when trying to save Elain from Hybern and second when he was pierced by an ash arrow)
- Finally able to move on from Mor, finding solace and peace with Elain (who is interested in him as well) only to be ordered to stay away from her due to Lucien being her mate ( even though she doesn’t show interest in Lucien)
Azriel needs some all-around PEACE in his life.
What about a love interest?
The fandom seems to debate on this topic, but one thing for sure is that he doesn't need to be "challenged" by someone... Where do we even see THAT being anywhere in the books?

The obsession this fandom has with the mating bond is so weird. They want elucien simply due to the mating bond, doesn’t matter if true love is involved or not. Guess what? Their mating bond doesn’t mean anything cause one or both of them don’t even want it. It’s null and void.
Azriel and elain want each other.
Simple as that. They will reject mates for each other, or they may actually be mates. But the whole mate thing doesn’t change how they feel or who they want. It’s not a deciding factor for Elriel or the shippers at all. The whole point is choice and love. They won’t get together just BECAUSE they are mates if they do end up being mates, which i think is exactly where SJM is taking the story. They already have feelings for each other without the bond, all of a sudden having a bond won’t make them love each other more.

Meanwhile Azriel:
A faint smile bloomed upon Azriel’s mouth as he noticed Elain’s fingers white-knuckled on that fork…
“I can imagine,” Azriel said. Cassian flashed him a glare. But Azriel’s attention was on my sister, a polite, bland smile on his face.
Azriel’s hazel eyes churned as he studied my sister, her too-thin body. And without a word, he winnowed away. Mor watched the space where he’d been standing long after he was gone.
It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her. The male who heard things others could not … Perhaps he, too, had suffered as Elain had before he understood what gift he possessed.
But Azriel asked softly, “What about Elain?” Something cold went through me. Nesta was just staring at Azriel.
Azriel strode to the lone window at the end of the room and peered into the garden below…“No,” Azriel said, not turning from the window…Azriel remained at the window. “Will Nesta stay here if she comes?”…“I’d still be surprised if they remember once the storm clears,” Azriel said, turning from the garden window at last.
“Rhys was frowning, Cassian and Mor were both grimacing, and Azriel … It was pity on his beautiful face. Pity and sorrow as he watched my sister.”
Elain just linked her arm through Nesta’s and led her toward the family room, where Azriel stood in the doorway, monitoring them. As if he’d heard Elain’s sharp laugh and wondered what had caused it.
