When the candles have burned low and the lamps are at half-light, the third pot of coffee halfway empty and the dinner that a few Dregs brought in hours ago has been reduced to scraps on the table, Jesper leans around Wylan to look at her straight on and she cradles the warm porcelain of her cup close to her chest in the temporary quiet.
“So,” he says, “Captain Ghafa,” and a rustle of quiet delighted snickering goes around the table before he continues with a wide grin, “what’s with the summons?”

ZOMBIE CURE ACQUIRED!

When the last East Ravkan zombie outbreak research facility is stormed by zombies, Kuwei Yul Bo has no choice but to inject himself with the experimental cure he and his father were developing. The cure is successful, but all the research is lost when the facility goes up in flames. The only other survivors are two refugees from Fjerda, Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar. Kuwei is left stranded, unsupplied and unprepared, though immune and not alone. Working together to stay alive, they are soon taken in by the largest group of survivors, led by Alina Starkov. Meanwhile in Ketterdam, one of the last remaining zombie free strongholds, Kaz Brekker hears the rumor that the only person immune to the virus is on the run in East Ravka, avoiding other interested parties who would see him either dead or captured. However, separating the Crows and Kuwei, is the Fold, the metaphorical rend in Ravka that is literally crawling with zombies. This is only the first of their problems.
