“All this stuff you’re managing… You’re not supposed to be managing it. You’re supposed to be feeling it… grief, loss, pain. It is normal. It’s not normal. It is. It is normal. It’s not normal to you ‘cause you’ve never done it. Instead of feeling it, feeling the grief and the pain, you’ve shoved it all down and you do drugs instead. Instead of moving through the pain, you run from it. Instead of dealing with being hurt and alone and afraid that this horrible, empty feeling is all there is, I run from it. I run off, and I sign up for another tour of active duty. We do these things. We run off, and we… we medicate. We do whatever it takes to cover it up and dull the sensation, but it’s not normal. We’re supposed to feel. We’re supposed to… Love… And hate… And hurt… And grieve and break and… Be destroyed and… Rebuild ourselves to be destroyed again. That is human. That is humanity. That’s being alive. That’s the point. That’s the entire point. Don’t… don’t avoid it. Don’t… Extinguish it.”

Grey's Anatomy's Caterina Scorsone Dishes on Amelia/Owen's Future, Mer/Nathan's Secret, Jo's Dilemma

Although Amelia and Owen can now slap a “Just Married” sticker on their car, that doesn’t mean the Grey’s Anatomy newlyweds are necessarily in for a smooth ride. Here, Caterina Scorsone, who plays the bride, not only predicts the Hunts’ future, she weighs in on Meredith and Nathan’s clandestine hookup and offers a little in-character advice to Jo.

TVLINE | First off, take me through Amelia’s final decision to go through with the wedding. It seemed like a big turning point for her, way beyond getting married. Yeah, I think she’d been looking for external permission from Meredith, and ultimately, Meredith didn’t really give it to her. Instead, she said, “Hey, why are you looking to me? I don’t know anything! You should be looking to yourself!” So what Amelia actually gets from Meredith is permission to listen to herself and follow her own desires.

TVLINE | She’s like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz —Amelia had the power all along. [Laughs] This is absolutely the Wizard of Oz moment for her, where Dorothy realizes she could give and receive love the whole time!

TVLINE | Do you think Amelia and Owen will get a few weeks of happiness in Season 13 before the next calamity? I hope so. We really haven’t been able to do all the kind of sweet, romantic stuff that usually is the bulk of a relationship. So I hope we get to have a little bit of a honeymoon before being struck by tragedy. It would be nice to kind of get out of the muck and mire!

TVLINE | At least for a little while. [Laughs] You’ve gotta build ’em up to knock ’em down! I think Amelia and Owen’s happiness is always going to be hard-won, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if they turned out to be exactly the couple who you say “I give ’em six months!” and they end up being able to love each other [forever]?

TVLINE | Do you think they have a shot? I think they expect flaws and brokenness in a way that most people don’t, so maybe they’ll be able to weather life’s bumps in a way that people wearing rose-colored glasses can’t necessarily.

TVLINE | You have to be looking forward to Amelia finding out about Meredith and Nathan next season. For once, she won’t be the one being judged. Right? [Laughs] It’s completely reversed! Amelia’s being upstanding and practically a pillar of the community, and Meredith is out doing it in the back of a car! I think Amelia will definitely see the mirth in the whole situation.

TVLINE | Maybe she can finally give back a little of what she’s gotten from Meredith, too. Yeah, it would be nice if there was kind of a reversal [from their usual dynamic]. Amelia has been kind of this cowering child sometimes with Meredith, so it would be funny to see that reversed. Meredith did give her a lot of grief when she started up with Owen!

TVLINE | Having gone through so much to finally get it right with Owen, Amelia’s practically a relationship expert now. So what advice would she give Jo about her predicament with Alex? Well, one of the great things about Amelia’s sobriety is that it depends on her ability to be honest with herself. So she would definitely advise Jo to do some inventory and figure out where her fears lie and talk to Alex before she isolates herself and creates all sort of tragedies for herself, which Amelia has done in the past. [Beyond that,] get a good lawyer!

What do you mean about gracie?

I guess there are two ways I see that.

as a writer I have found myself already where I write things that my readers don’t like, although it’s generally one or two odd readers that differentiate from the mass, it still bugs me, because my first reaction is to think that I have done something wrong. That being said, when I write something, I’m telling my own story and the development should come naturally so that people are actually invested in following. ( for instance, I can’t write a story about owen and amelia on how calzona got back together ). I personally write for myself first and foremost and I’m generally able to get past a nasty review or comment - even though I rarely get any, it bothers me all the same. it’s her story, she has every right to do what she wants with it and if you - reader - don’t agree you can just stop reading, something I tell everyone continuosly, nobody forces you to sit and read my stuff and I have plenty better stuff to do than waste my time reading about your frustrations taken out on my story.
as a reader, though, I can see where people are coming from. as I mentioned I stopped consistently reading those stories as the OCs became a bigger part of the focus because, frankly, I was interested in reading owen and amelia, and AGAIN, that’s me. I just stopped reading and no harm done. with the last story, though, I have - like a lot of other people - noticed a kind of seemingly forced storyline, including the bigger focus on nolan and lissa, which is something I don’t really care for, and in a way - while gracie probably was working on developing her two original characters, everyone wanting to read about owen and amelia was a bit disappointed. more than that, the bold choice of using teen pregnancy in a family where it’s been shown many times they raise head strong, independent, ambitious and accomplished children felt out of place with the rest of everything. while I loved many other plot twists and surprises, I felt this did not resonate with the characters, the current storyline(s) and the further development of the whole story itself.
maybe it’s me. I value independent women that stand up for themselves and want their life to be more than their husband’s life companion and his children’s mother. at a point lissa seemed to me that - while not as ambitious as nolan - she might actually become her own character out of what their relationship is, this way that can’t happen. I’m not that much older than eighteen and, while I know people have kids even a lot younger and manage just fine, I feel in this case it was a little forced and, personally, I’d never be able to just accept it and roll with it like they seem to be doing, adding to the unrealistic nature of this - for me.

however that is no excuse for how rude some people have been. gracie becker is a writer and her stories are her own, the fact that she might consider someone else’s opinions on the development of said stories is a gift (I actually rarely do, unless it’s prompts), so stop harassing her and stop being mean. you might not like what she’s doing (and I get that), but that is no excuse whatsoever. ever. I went and read some of those reviews and some people are truly awful to someone generous enough to share their talent like that. she turned a modern, strong family into what’s become today’s cliche - whatever. that’s what she wants, I might not agree with that, but I certainly believe she has every right to do so.

I saw a post where you said some things about gracie becker from fanfiction(.)net and I was wondering if you've been reading her last story, which is called "An Imperfect Life", because you have great insights and are very level headed, and I just wanted to know what you thought. I am forever in love with Life Will Out when will you update it? I need to know what's going to happen.

for reference the posts are probably this and this.

ameliaisms

omelia + married life

                    ( as requested… )

Who was the one to propose?: Owen is the one to propose, & Amelia tries not to freak out or run away – & she ends up proposing to him when he confronts her again about how unsure she seems. Who stressed more over wedding planning?: Owen actually stresses more about the wedding itself, while Amelia stresses about the people who were coming & tries to convince him to elope instead. Who decorated the house?: Amelia. Owen tries, but she informs him he spent far too long in a trailer & lost the ability to decorate any space where you couldn’t reach the toaster from the toilet. Who is more organized?: Although far from a slob, Amelia lives in a state of organized chaos, most of the time. Outward, sensical organization awards go to Owen. Who initiates bedroom fun?: Both, but usually they let the other one think they were the one to come up with the idea. Who suggested kids first?: Owen mentions kids a few times, but it’s Amelia who suggests they start trying for them. He wanted to wait until she was ready. Who’s more dominant?: Depends on the time of day. Neither one is very submissive unless they want to be in that moment. Who’s the cuddler?: Both. It’s gross how much they love to be in each other’s arms. Who kills the spiders?: Owen kills most of the spiders; not because Amelia is afraid – if she were on her own, she probably wouldn’t even bat an eyelash – but because she likes to dramatically cry out for help and call him her savior. Also, she thinks they’re gross and the less she has to touch them, the better. Who falls asleep first?: Most of the time, Amelia falls asleep first. Who is louder?: Amelia. Who is more experimental?: Amelia is usually the one to suggest new things, but Owen doesn’t exactly turn her down. Do they fuck or make love?: Both, depending on the day. Who is more likely to be caught masturbating?: Does it count as ‘getting caught’ if it was intentional? Amelia. Who comes first?: It varies, but perhaps a slight majority to Amelia. Who is better at oral and who prefers it?: Both are pretty into it, & both are definitely skilled. Who has more patience?: Owen. Amelia is very fiery & loves in-the-moment, spontaneous kind of fun. She hates to wait for anything. He is much better at the slow burn. Who leaves their dirty clothes on the floor?: Amelia, but mostly when she’s in a hurry. She’s also pretty good about picking them up again. Who forgets to run the dishwasher?: Owen. && it drives Amelia crazy, but in his defense, she has usually done it before he even has time to remember. Who pumps gas for the car?: Owen. Amelia drives dangerously close to empty & it makes him nervous. Who drives when they’re going somewhere?: Owen says Amelia drives too fast. Amelia just wants to have control over the music. Who rearranges the furniture?: Amelia. Owen sometimes comes home to a completely new setup because she got bored or decided it would open up the room more. It doesn’t phase him after awhile. Who falls asleep with the TV on?: Amelia is more likely to fall asleep with the television on when she’s agitated or upset. In those moments, she hates the quiet. Who gets to use the bathroom first?: Amelia. She tends to be more restless at night. Sleep isn’t really her strong-suit. Who decides the temperature for the ac/heater?: Owen gives up on that pretty quickly; especially once Amelia becomes pregnant. Who sets up holiday decorations?: They do it together, unless it comes to the heavy lifting. Then Amelia will usually try & end up damaging something ( like one of them ) & he will take over – which usually means he’s the one stringing up lights & ornaments while she makes inappropriate comments about his butt from this angle. Who leaves the lights on?: Amelia often forgets to turn off lights when she leaves a room. Who uses the bathroom with the door open?: Neither, unless they’re trying to get the other into the shower with them. Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa?: They’ve both done it. It just happens that Amelia does it at a much higher frequency. Who starts the tickle fights?: Amelia usually starts them; Owen usually wins them. Who starts the pillow fights?: Amelia every time. Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile?: Owen. He loves how peaceful she looks. Who mistakes salt for sugar?: Neither, but sometimes they’re both tired enough after nights on-call that it’s really just a miracle they’ve managed to avoid it. Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning?: Amelia, but it’s totally by accident & she’s just so tired. Cut her a break. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?: They’ve both got their fair share of cheese. Amelia probably comes up with more of them, though, just to make them laugh. Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order?: They tried & failed to keep their stuff so neatly sorted. They both just shove stuff back wherever it fits – especially Amelia, even though it was her idea in the first place. Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies?: Whoever gets to it first. Owen usually lets her win. Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion?: Owen. Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen?: Amelia, but it’s not a common occurrence. Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation?: Owen. Amelia doesn’t really see the point. Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines?: They only do that to pass time if they’re waiting for an appointment, really.

I think every tv show should hire an obsessed fan to prevent continuity errors. Someone to go, “well that doesn’t work because in s2e4 you did x so you can’t possibly do y without doing z or you’ll contradict x”

Glaring flaws in 11-21

1. Lack of cell coverage on the way to the accident miraculously appears just before Derek is hit by the semi

2. Anyone with basic familiarity with a Seattle map would know that numerous qualified hospitals were closer than the rinky dink one.

3. Why was the doctor at the rinky dink hospital surprised to see the ambulance pull up? Aren’t incoming cases called ahead?

4. Were all the choppers in Seattle busy that day? No emergency transport available for such serious cases?

5. No traffic at all as Derek saved all the crash victims and as they were loaded into ambulances, but then a semi – that would’ve likely heard about the emergency response – barrels down the road just as Derek prepares to drive away?

6. Derek’s car could have transported everyone to a hospital rather than waiting for a random response from the smoke. It might not have been comfortable, but there was plenty of room between the back, middle seat, and passenger seat.

7. Meredith didn’t call anyone before pulling the plug. Really? Not Derek’s sisters or mothers? Not one of her people like Cristina or Alex? Not Amelia, a brain surgeon? Even if she felt his case was untreatable, wouldn’t she call people so they could say goodbye?

8. The closest hospital would’ve transported to a Trauma Center if the cases were beyond their capabilities.

9. Anytime I’ve pulled over on a road – even a basically abandoned one – I’ve pulled off to the side. Stopping horizontally to search for his phone? McDreamy was far smarter than that.

10.   He was on his way to SeaTac to fly. Wouldn’t he have his ID with him? Couldn’t emergency crews run his license plate when transporting him? There were many ways to know his identity by the time he arrived at the ER.

11.   Wouldn’t the neurosurgeon already be on site (or at least paged) to deal with the teen driver?

12.   Disconnect between Derek speaking to Amelia, April and Bailey on his way to the airport and nobody telling Mer they’d spoken to him.  Wha???

13.   Timing was off in the car, rinky dink hospital, and police arrival at MerDer’s. None of the times corresponded to one another and to the dialogue.

14. Meredith left her phone at home the same morning she used it on the catwalk. ???

15. Don’t even get me started on the sexist idiot who refused to stop for a CAT scan.

16. Others?
