Okay but I notice that when I speak to Dutch people on here in Dutch I alter my language for it to resemble their Dutch a bit more. Eg using words id normally not use or slightly different sentence structures. But I also still use distinctively Flemish words (I use gij when talking to them, for example) so idk my brain does weird stuff

I do the same when I speak Afrikaans to Belgians and Dutch people

I am a dutch person, but am living in Belgium and my dear it’s so confusing right now. I now know which words are different, so I will use Flemish words, but it sounds weird when I have a dutch accent, so now I try to kind of be in between speaking half dutch half flemish and it is SO WEIRDDD

I’m trying to watch a French tv-series (Le Chalet) with French subtitles and so far, I understand around 50% hahaha.

OK I FINISHED THIS SERIES AND OMG AFTER LIKE TWO EPISODES IT REALLY BECAME EASIER TO UNDERSTAND.  Wtf I’m so proud of myself.

I think when you first start learning a language it’s easier to be motivated because it’s new and pretty simple compared to advanced stuff.

But after a while things get harder and it’s not just fun anymore, so you gotta really want to keep going.

It’s so easy to give up, but languages are awesome and there are many reasons to keep trying.
