I haven't even read any X-Men yet and this is still the funniest TikTok I've ever seen

I haven't read an X-Men comic since the late '90s, but this is funny as hell.

THE MURDERBOT DIARIES: A Fan Animation

Subtitles in English, Spanish, French, and German.

In early 2021, as talk of a Murderbot Diaries adaptation was underway, fans of the series started asking each other questions like, "What would we want to see from an adaptation of our favorite book series?" and "Wouldn't it be cool if this or that scene was animated?" and "Hey, don't YOU know some things about animation?" and "What if a bunch of fans got together to make a Murderbot fan animation?"

Two years of teamwork later, the Murderbot Diaries Fanimation Project presents our labor of love: a fully realized animation adapting scenes from the first four novellas into a trailer, dedicated to showcasing everything we love about the story of our favorite rogue SecUnit.

Make sure to leave a like and share the video if you enjoyed our animation! And tell us what you liked about the video on our social media:

Color has been disappearing from the world.

A new research group used machine learning to track color changes in common materials and items, below is their findings for all color changes over time, they used 7000+ items from the 1800s to now to determine color changes in the most common items.

Below are the colors of cars by year, notice how the majority of cars are grey, white, or black compared to twenty years ago.

These aren't data points, but they are comparisons between the 'modern' homes of the 70s and 80s compared to the modern homes of today.

Carpets have equally had the same treatment of grey added to them! The most common color of carpet is now grey or beige.

Even locations that used to scream with color for decades have now modernized to becoming boring minimalist (and I love minimalism) personality-less locations.

The world is becoming colorless, why?

you can look at any folk culture around the world, past or present, and find the use of the entire color spectrum. humans are drawn to color, it holds emotional symbolism but it also reflects the land we live off of. I consider it like a celebration of life and our place in it

the problem is that we aren’t actually allowed to belong to the places we live. houses and entire towns are shells meant to be as plain as possible for the next renter, buyer, or investor. the more generic it is, the more consumers it can be sold to. And when you have a country that’s biggest population doesn’t have a distinct sense of cultural identity it will be reflected and mass produced without much complaint

people getting joy from the minimalist gray aesthetic is not the same as the estrangement this country is making between people and place, one of the most fundamental relationships humans need to survive (and be happy while doing it)

Films depict middle ages as devoid of color but it's the other way around.

When I was buying my house, people were telling me not to paint it this or that color because it would be harder to sell later. Like, I haven't even bough the house and you're already telling me to sell it! I'm buying a house because I need a place to live! I want to live here until I die or manage to move to Europe! We are not supposed to actually own anything anymore. Not our houses or cars or furniture. We are supposed to be perpetually replacing these things, paying more each time around, until we break and die and our bones are the color of the walls around us.

It's called the "market-reflected gaze":

This understanding of home ownership is pervasive despite constant challenges from what Grant and Handelman call “marketplace dynamics”: the pull to make your asset as valuable, in this and in future markets, as possible. As consumers, we knowingly or unknowingly absorb the maxims of the market, developing a “market-reflected gaze” to observe and critique our homes and others. A market-reflected gaze is horrified, for example, by the listing for this gloriously goth/Raiders-themed home in Baltimore — clearly way too personalized to the owners’ tastes. But the gaze is also critical of anything that’s dated or out-of-sync with current trends. If you’ve ever looked at a listing and thought “look at those ‘90s cabinets” (I certainly have!) or “ugh white appliances” then you’ve adopted a market-reflected gaze. (Zillow Gone Wild is a disciplining site for “over-individualized” homes: if your house ends up there, you’ve refused to subject yourself to the market-reflected gaze; the comments section functions to reaffirm the disastrousness and/or abjection of that choice).

"Isn't it weird that [thing humans commonly eat] is poisonous to literally every domesticated animal" I mean, there's a pretty good chance that [thing humans commonly eat] is at least mildly poisonous to humans, too. One of our quirks as a species is that we think our food is bland if it doesn't have enough poison in it.

Social media is not private, emails are not private, internet searches are not private, your text messages are not private.

"I use a VPN!" Your ISP can see when you initially connect to a VPN. The VPN company will comply with a subpoena.

"My socials don't have my real name!" What about the email to register that social? What about your wifi provider? They provide the IP address from which you're frequently logging in. Don't they have your information?

Your cell carrier will comply with a subpoena.

You ISP will comply with a subpoena.

So will Google, Apple, Yahoo, Meta, Tumblr, Twitter, you name it. None of them will fight the government on behalf of a random person they don't care about.

This is why fighting for online privacy laws, real actual privacy laws, is so important. It's why using services with end-to-end encryption is so important. It's why if you don't want any chance of law enforcement to know about something, you cannot post about it online in any way.

The messages we recieved growing up about being very careful about what you post online wasn't fear mongering. They just picked a different villain.

a month ago i picked up a book on stage directing in my school’s black box and opened to a random page and it was something about making shakespearean actors rehearse by adding the word fuck to their lines to turn the archaic language into something familiar for the emotional resonance (of course taking it out as rehearsals move along to fix rhythm/etc but just to start off) and the example it gave was the solid flesh speech. like. iirc it was specifically “but two fucking months dead”

and like. im obsessed with this. as a concept. not even for acting i just think it’s so fucking funny. to be or not to be, that’s the fucking question. is this a fucking dagger i see before me. this is the excellent fuckery of the world -

What fucking fire is in mine ears? Here is my fucking butt.

“Press not a falling man too fucking far!” - Lord Chamberlain, Henry VIII, Act 3 scene 2

One of my absolute favourite things in the world is a ‘fuck run’. If the energy is too low, or the intensity is dropping the director might ask you to run a scene, or sometimes even the whole play, and insert ‘fuck’ or any of its derivatives wherever you feel the urge to. I have never experienced anything so quickly and ferociously liven a scene. It’s like a defibrillator.

Once did the last half of Oedipus Rex as a ‘fuck run’ leading to such incredible double entendres as: ‘Oedipus, son, dear child, who motherfucking bore you’.

Other highlights from times I’ve either taken part or seen a fuck run:

“I would eat his heart in the fucking marketplace” ”I have, of late, though wherefore I know the fuck not, lost all my motherfucking mirth.” “Your royal father’s fucking murdered.” “Fuckfuckfuck. O, by fucking who?” ”Gentlemen, remember that I am a fucking ass” ”Why the fuck did you bring these fucking daggers from the place? They must lie fucking there! Fuck! Go fucking carry them, and smear the sleepy grooms with fucking blood” “Screw your courage the FUCKING sticking place and we’ll not fail”
