New to Town

It took me hours to walk from the point where the portal dropped me to this town in who knows what time or where. Lucky for me this time I didn’t look so much out of place as my body was covered in a blackened dragon scale suit. I had my Whip around my waist and my bag slung over my shoulder. I decided to have a look around and find the most popular Tavern. After about an hour I finally came to one that appeared to be fairly busy from the noise coming from inside. As I stepped through the threshold all sorts of smells hit my noise as sounds of laughter and song filled the space.

Smiling to myself as everyone seemed to be in high spirits this eve, I decided that I would sit at the bar as I watched the festivities of the night carry on. As if on cue I felt a small movement from my neck to my ear as a very soft whisper entered my space. “Why not join the fun?” Hearing the voice I shook my head as a smile crept onto my face. “Or perhaps you can join?” The whisper seemed to consider this for a minute and just hissed lightly in my ear. “Perhaps another night.” As normal Lue only did things that benefited him but at this point in time its no surprise to me.

I turned back to the bar and tapped my finger lightly on its wooded surface. I waited for a few minutes when the bartender came over to me. “What can I do for you?” I smiled lightly as I responded loud enough for him to hear me over the noise. “I would like just a water.” I handed him two gold pieces and nodded to him lightly as he nodded and scurried off. Within minutes I had the water as I held it close to my lips and tipping it back lightly but not enough for me to spill it. I let out a small whisper to Lue. “Here drink some water while you can.” I waited as he slithered down my cheek in his blacked tribal pattern he uses when hiding on my flesh. He moves his head away from my flesh as a small snake head appears and moves towards the cup. “I would rather drink others things.” He hissed at me as he drank his fill and I merely rolled my eyes.

“Geez dad, do you ever do anything besides read a book?” I heard Melina ask as we walked through the doors of the Demon Tavern. “You promised papa that you wasn’t gonna be distracted by reading!”

Tina, my youngest of the two, was pulling my free hand and navigating me towards the bar area. “Oh shut up Mel, you know dad is a bookworm. Besides this is better than papa’s tough training sessions.” She laughed.

Without dropping my gaze from this month’s Wizards Weekly I took a seat at the bar. There was only one other person sitting here. Just because I seem to be distracted doesn’t mean I am, I just like to let the girls think I am. From the corner of my eye I noticed she had dark beautiful curly hair, I couldn’t get a good look at her face though. I did however, know she wasn’t from around here. Drowning out the girls I tried listening to what she might be saying. So far nothing. Who is this young woman? What business does she have here—better yet does she mean this town harm? These were the thoughts that constantly flooded my mind, I mean I guess I could just lean over and just say something. Hell if Phitter was here he’d do it. I’ll give myself a moment to think it over, talking to people isn’t a skill I possess.

Since I wasn’t really paying attention to the book which me kinda angry by the way, I gently placed it down on the wooden counter. I felt myself awkwardly somewhat looking at her, going over many conversation starters but none turned out right, my index talon of my right hand started tapping nervously against the wooden. The tapping would annoy my friend, Fran, I mean can’t help it. It only happens when I’m in unwanted situations, I would just say fuck it but considering that we were invaded recently all strangers are potential threats unless proven otherwise. Tina caught on to what I was covertly looking at.

“Yo dad when you gonna teach me in the way of the Hand? All this school stuff is so damn boring—

“Language young lady. And I’ll teach you when I feel you’re ready, I don’t just teach it to anyone. Plus your papa told me you haven’t been taking your schooling seriously. I know you don’t want me to go into a long winded lecture about why education is important, right?” I said, I noticed that Tina left my side and started walking over the strange young redhead. She looked back at me long enough for to motion my head in a “no” motion but of course she proceeded onward.

“Yeah whatever, that’s why papa is cooler” Melina said under her breath, she didn’t care what her sister was about to do.

Tina was now standing behind where the redhead was sitting, she lifted up her winged petite arm and gently tapped on the back of the woman. “Um excuse me miss?”

The tap tap tapping of Quill's talon against the table was beginning to WEAR ON Fran's NERVES, the rodent knew it was a NERVOUS HABIT, he had a few of his own if Fran were being HONEST but nonetheless, it didn't stop it from being ANNOYING

Rubbing a paw over his eyes, he was tired- no, he was EXHAUSTED, but he guessed that's what happens when you hardly get any SLEEP. Fishing through his knapsack for a few GOLD PIECES he needed a drink or a few drinks. " 'Ay ! Barkeep gimme a beer. " Sliding a few gold over the table. Maybe it was to EARLY to be DRINKING, but eh, it's NEVER too early- he's turning into his father. But Fran doesn't want to deal with those COMPLICATED problems at the MOMENT... Or ever really.

He knew Quill's mind was RUNNING a million DIFFERENT scenarios && could tell by his FACIAL EXPRESSION knew NONE were STICKING- the guy was AWKARD && didn't really know how to TALK to people, he'd much rather have his head in a book than talk to people. Honestly, Fran couldn't BLAME him, the rodent would much rather be ALONE. But it seemed LIFE had other IDEAS in mind for him.

His ears TWICHED at the sound of Quill's VOICE, he thought he would have had to SPEAK UP for this friend, but he simply closed his mouth && went back to his drink but LISTENED to his friend && this STRANGER talk- about what he hadn’t the FOGGIEST IDEA- but onetheless wanting to look INCONSPICOUS, the last thing Fran wanted was to be NOTICED.

The rodent blinked, he couldn’t BELIEVE what he was HEARING.  ❝ Why would ya’ want to go there ? ❞ Hadn’t they heard the RUMORS around town about that P L A C E ? Fran had to WRAN them before it was too late, he couldn't let ANOTHER person get h u r t because of him. Because he held his tongue.
