I am grateful for headphones for allowing me to listen to songs on repeat forty times without completely maddening other people.

many of us still are in the process of learning to stop associating positivity with happiness and peace with control. you can have a positive mindset and be a positive person and still experience negative emotions like sadness or frustration, and you can be at peace without knowing exactly what happens next in your life. you are not failing because you cry sometimes or because you tend to get angry, and you are not inable to be at peace because you don’t know what happens next. live in the moment and do what you can and feel what you feel, that’s all you have to do.

one thing i’ve learnt is that u can’t put your life on hold for that perfect idealized future moment. thats just condemning your present self to needless repentance and suffering. get that haircut now — not when you’ve lost x amount of weight. go get on that long drive out to the ocean NOW, not when u have that hypothetical daydreamy significant other by your side. you can’t save important life experiences for a self that ultimately doesn’t exist. all you have is you, right now, at this very moment. perfection is a myth anyway, just another perfect word for procrastination. please do not let your life wither away right before your eyes bc u were too busy putting it off

Hours after ceasefire, Israeli police attack Al-Aqsa mosque. They launched tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades at worshippers.

This is not over yet. Ceasefire does not mean the oppression of the Palestinian people is over. It does not mean Israel has been held accountable for the deaths of at least 232 Palestinians (including 61 children). It does not mean the zionist colonization has ended. They still need your support.

One of my favorite parts of the Hunger Games was how, in the beginning, Katniss was jealous amd resentful of the townies for not having to work in the coal mines. Then, over time, she realizes they aren't the true enemy. Then she sees the other district kids as so much better off than she is, because at least they don't come from district 12. But then she realizes they aren't the enemy either. And then she hates the other victors, before realizing they have all been exploited just as much as she has. So the enemy must be the Capitol citizens, who benefit from the exploitation of the districts, right? Wrong again. They are just uninformed and pampered people who have been kept in the dark about the true horrors faced by the rest of the country. Most of them, when push comes to shove, are perfectly willing to help the war efforts.

And slowly, over the three books, all theses separate factions of downtrodden people start to see each other as allies instead of enemies, and that is what propells them to eventual victory over the true enemy, the government that tried to pit them against each other. Just fun, totally fictional things to think about that have nothing whatsoever to do with our current life.

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.

One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”  I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.
