people who let me wake up to this get a special place in heaven. firefly_fox how does it feel to hold my life in ur hands....
my favorite thing about this post is that a handful of people have gone "oh wait! this is tangible proof that i don't need to be embarrassed about leaving a lot of comments!! i'll stop being so ashamed!" YES!! ao3 authors basically universally will die for people who comment spam. we love to see it and we do not find you weird or annoying At All.
think about it this way: we ourselves are weird enough to have spent several hours, days, or Months writing down this story. we are weird enough about the content to do that! why on Earth would we be mean and judgmental toward people who care enough to get excited about reading it?? we shared it Specifically For You To Get Excited About!
WE WILL WRITE FOR YOU WHEN YOU DO THIS, TOO.
obsessed with characters who were written for one another. like, what do you mean the reason for my existence is to be by your side? what do you mean our divine purpose is to belong to one another, for better or worse?
the merlin fandom truly are the most unhinged (affectionate) subsect of people on the internet. any other fandom you post a rambling meta post and it will get maybe like two or three notes. say that same thing and tag it #bbc merlin and a tide of furies descend upon it and rip it to shreds hungrily like starved maenads in a bacchanalia. you give these bitches something even resembling literary analysis and they become possessed by a violent hunger and go immediately insane. truly the best way to engage with fandom if you ask me
collection of very normal tags people have left on meta posts, just from a quick search. we really do not know how to be normal about this show in any way shape or form huh

something about how merlin and arthur both died the moment they became a story. how in becoming a legend, they sacrificed the versions of themselves that were real for the infinite potentiality of the versions that could have been. "the story that we have been a part of will live long in the minds of men" but at the cost of the lovers who wrote it, fragmented across space and time by a thousand new imaginations that keep them alive in all that they never were. when we read their story, they are broken and reborn anew, so does that make us murderers or gods? or maybe the whole point is that there never really was much of a difference between the two.
I think that if your only logic for it being impossible for Gwen to lead a golden age is that she's a woman and a commoner you completely missed the underlying themes of the entirety of the show that is Merlin. The show has an issue with not challenging classism and hierarchy, but one of its series course plots is watching Gwen, a commoner and servant, go from brave, wise but shy to still brave and wise and also confident, respected by her peers (including the king of Camelot who loves her) and kind despite the bs the show put her through. It just rubs me the wrong way when people want to insert immovable barriers that were shown to be overcome in the actual story in order to justify not letting Guinevere be the leader of the golden age and unban magic. Being a woman and commoner wasn't enough to stop her in canon so you need to bring something else to the table (or maybe just cope that she's a better leader than Arthur)
Reply by @sneakyboymerlin that reads "Queen Annis wasn't stopped by being a woman. Neither was Morgana, frankly. But nobody is like "wow how on earth are Annis and Morgana expecting to stay queen and enact change without a man?" Only Gwen gets this treatment." Bolding mine
You guys just can't get over that Guinevere is a better leader. She has the wisdom, strength, kindness, means and drive to do what Arthur could never do.
the fact that op turned off rbs is very very funny to me. anyway i want this post on my blog too.
