Red Scharlach Points At Interesting Things

@redscharlach / redscharlach.tumblr.com

Hello, I'm an English female grown-up and an enthusiastic purveyor of various forms of internet whimsy. This is a place to show you stuff I've drawn or written or otherwise cobbled together, as well as stuff I simply like the look of. You can also find me on Twitter, Instagram or Livejournal, or buy things in my Redbubble shop.

Bronze aquamanile in the form of a centaur fighting a serpent, Germany, circa 1200-1250

This chap looks worried. Possible he's anxious because the serpent looks like part of him, so if he chops its head off with his knife, he'll be chopping a bit of himself off, and then he'll look pretty darn silly in front of his centaur friends.

“As if an angel dropped down from the clouds”, William Blake’s 1809 illustration to Henry IV by a certain William Shakespeare whose birthday is celebrated #onthisday in 1564 (also his death day in 1616).

See our collection of art inspired by his plays: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/shakespeare-in-art

When you've got a comfy place to recline and some decent reading material and therefore you don't give a hoot about whatever-the-fuck's meant to be happening in the rest of the picture
