You experienced what you experienced. And that’s real and valid, despite what other people may have tried to tell you.
saw this on twitter and though tumblr folks would appreciate it
As a nonbinary person who's (sporadically) on hormone therapy, I really hope Ally knows that being able to see some of that transition over time was actually really reassuring to me and undoubtedly many other trans folk. Just in terms of "ah, I"m not the only one" and also in terms of like. Beardsley looks good, y'know? There was the awkward phase but they're moving out of that period and it looks really good on them.
Today is the 20th anniversary of Reagan's death.
You'd think this would be a Tumblr holiday like the Ides of March or Destiel Day.
Hey, no homo, but I am sitting on the broken swing set out back in the perfect, quiet, 2:00am blackness and picturing the softness of your voice and the darkness of your eyes with such perfect and terrible clarity that it feels like I'm choking on my own heartbeat.
Now I'm eating croutons straight out of the bag.
Still no homo ?
I'm gonna level with you, friend: I am eating these croutons gay style.
everyone knows that the last person you should ask about the experiences of trans women is a trans woman. they're all biased & can't be trusted
um i noticed you included opinions in this from actual transfems so it's not valid. everyone knows the only people who can speak authoritatively about the lives and internalities of transfems are *checks notes* everybody else who isn't transfem
ok sure you interviewed trans women about their lives but can we get some opinions from real unbiased people?
AND WHAT EXACTLY ABOUT THIS POST IS MATURE CONTENT @staff
there isn't even a swear word in this. are you for real right now. are you serious
it doesn't get clearer than this. there is no mature content in this post, a post that talks about trans women being silenced when talking about their own experiences, by a trans woman talking about her own experiences, and it gets marked mature. @staff it no longer matters if this is algorithmic or a result of un-reviewed false reporting by other users, this is unacceptable for a site that advertises itself as "the queerest place on the internet." this needs to be fixed and explained.
the human stress response seems so maladaptive!
To be fair 99% of our evolutionary stress response was meant to deal with far more immediately conclusive scenarios than the tedious bullshit we put up with these days.
very very slow tigers are chasing me
not to leave a serious comment on a silly post but one of the best pieces of advice I ever got about stress was to SLEEP but secondly, when overwhelmed, lay in a bed and intentionally hold all your muscles clenched. clench EVERYTHING. hold it for a few seconds, then let go. It tricks your animal fight-or-flight monkey brain into thinking it had, and won, a fight, and some of the stress response will leave you
#turn a slow tiger into a fast tiger with this fucked up trick
I need everyone to know that when I am educating clients on tension release exercises in therapy all I can think of is this post. It takes everything out of me not to say "let's try the fucked up tiger trick" in session.
just say it queen, let's make it happen
how can you not be angry
wake up. open instagram. dead baby with no head and no limbs. close instagram. open tumblr. list of gofundmes that still have zero donations. close tumblr. open twitter. sees videos of politicians writing “we love israel” and “finish them <3” on nukes. close twitter. open facebook. oh cool a long time childhood friend who watched me grow up says that there “is no genocide” then calls you an antisemetic asshole for daring to say “free palestine”. close facebook. open instagram. dead baby with no head and no limbs. how the fuck are you not furious
as a completely cis dude, I would press this button immediately, without question. There are a lot of things I would do for money, but shit I'd do this for like 20 bucks... maybe less?
She said with all too much confidence
A DAY!?!?!?
since moving here ive noticed europeans have no concept of how few americans ever leave USA. every american tourist youve met is of an economic crust that is vastly unobtainable to the other like. 85% generously. no matter what you have believed i can guarantee this. even getting to canada isnt really a possibility and the mexico-US border is highly controlled and militarized.
to put it into perspective. a ~2 hour flight from london to warsaw is like. 30 to 45 USD?
and a 2 hour flight from one US city to another would be about 130 USD
it was very cheap to fly here. i make over 100k USD now and i dont know if ill ever be able to afford leaving. if that gives you an idea of how prohibitive travel is here. i havent even touched on how the US has Zero guaranteed holidays by the govt. many people here go years without ever having an entire week off of work
this has had a like. massive impact on American Brain and they dont even know it because travel isnt even a consideration economically. they dont even know how much more vacation time european countries have guaranteed
london to warsaw - which is what they specified - literally is £20. flights from london to poland have always been cheap
£20 is actually $22 so really $45 is overestimating
#this also means all the entitled tourists you hear horror stories about are the worst sort of usamericans there are#the wealthy ones
Too good of a point to leave in the tags.
Ok this one is kind of a serve I would hang this sign on my wall
happy pride to the marketing team tom hardy held at gunpoint to get this gay ass tagline
Teachers have tried this and are amazed when their classes don’t go feral like in the book. It’s almost as if the book was supposed to be satire and not a treaty on the nature of humanity.
there’s a timeskip
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
after losing control of the signal fire there’s a FUCKING TIMESKIP and when the next chapter starts everyone’s hair is several inches longer and their clothes have rotted to shreds and they’re still just kind of chilling!!!!
IT TAKES THE TERRIBLE IMPERIALISM MIND-POISONED EXCESSIVELY BRITISH BOYS IN THE ACTUAL BOOK SEVERAL MONTHS TO COMMIT A SINGLE ACT OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCE, EVEN THE ONE (1) CHILD WRITTEN AS AN ACTUAL SOCIOPATH
AND then when they DO turn on each other it is because
THERE’S AN UNSPECIFIED WORLD WAR HAPPENING
AND A PILOT’S CORPSE CRASH LANDS ON THE ISLAND POST-DOGFIGHT AND THE CHILDREN MISTAKE THE PARACHUTE FOR A MONSTER AND SPIRAL INTO PARANOIA
BECAUSE CHILDREN INHERIT THE LEGACY AND TRAUMA OF VIOLENCE FROM THE ADULTS WAGING WAR AROUND THEM
HURR DURR IN THE REAL WORLD IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN LIKE IN LORD OF THE FLIES -
IT DIDN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY IN LORD OF THE FLIES EITHER YOU JUST HAVEN’T READ IT SINCE HIGH SCHOOL IF EVER AND DON’T REMEMBER WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE GODDAMN BOOK
yes. yes he did. i’m also gonna direct you to the real life ‘lord of the flies’ which occured in the 1960s, when six tongan schoolboys got stranded on a desert island for over a year before being rescued by an australian fisherman (who, it should be noted, later took on all six as crewmembers because the reason they were out in the first place was because they wanted to see the world, and named his ship the Ata after the island they were stranded on). nobody died. the only injuries that occurred were accidental, and when one of the boys broke his leg falling down a cliff, the others braced it and looked after him so well that it healed perfectly. if they argued, then they would literally go to opposite sides of the island until they’d cooled off. after leaving the island, they remained friends for the rest of their lives. here’s a photo of them as adults, with their rescuer (who is third from the left) and other members of his crew.
i read about this in rutger bregman’s human kind, a book i cannot recommend highly enough, but if you don’t want to go and read a whole book about the inherent goodness of humanity (which again, you really should) then the relevant excerpt can be found here.
> sees nihilistic depiction of human nature
> looks inside
> hope :)
i need to look like a man so i can dress like a woman
this got seven notes in like seven seconds its a hit with the faggots in my phone
gender non-conforming people we are all holding hands in this chilis tonight
I guess friendly reminder that you can't actually judge someone's socioeconomic status based on what they own and the classic republican "they can't be poor they own a smart phone/computer" argument doesn't suddenly stop being complete out of touch nonsense when a poor person makes it.
Anyway insert "y'all can't be trusted to eat the rich bcs you'll target taco bell shift leaders and people with playstations instead of actual billionaires" post here.
One time, in the local queer exchange, an older person was trying to sell a small painting by a long-dead, moderately well known artist for a couple grand and all these babies started screaming at them in the comments about how high the asking price was and how they should be donating the painting to a museum or the money to charity. And OP was like, "the artist gave me this as a gift bc we were friends and I'm only selling it to pay for chemo."
There's a story that goes around in conservative circles about "people on welfare who drive Cadillacs" (which, at least in the mid-20th Century, was a more expensive make of car than, say, a Ford). The implication is that people on welfare don't really deserve it, because if they had enough money for a Caddy, they have enough money to pay for food.
And, you know, there are a lot of reasons that someone who is poor might have something that started out expensive: maybe they lost their job or got divorced or had a medical crisis recently, and the car is from before that. Maybe it's really old and thus cheap. Maybe it was a gift from a family member with more money than they have (I drove a Mercedes Benz to school in high school ... but it was a thirty-year-old beater that could barely maintain road speed on a flat road, and which I got for free because it had been passed through several family members before it got to me). Maybe a lot of things.
But the interesting thing is where the story about welfare recipients in Cadillacs comes from. You see, it comes from an experiment they did in a city where they wanted to see who was getting welfare checks and how they lived to give proof that they didn't "deserve" the money. So they declared that one month, instead of checks being mailed out to people, they had to come to City Hall to pick them up.
Now, the thing is, a lot of poor people don't have cars, either because they're too poor to afford them, or because they are old and can't drive any longer. So this was a major problem for a lot of people. So the local boyscout troop (which had a lot of kids from upper-class families) organized rides for all of them. So yeah, a lot of people showed up in Caddys and Lincoln Towncars and other nice cars ... not because they owned nice cars but because the people who gave them the ride owned nice cars. But the story that goes around is about the "lazy scammers who are on welfare but drive luxury cars so they can't really be poor." That's the story they tell! It's not true, but it's the story.
If your assumptions of wealth and poverty is the same as conservatives, if the way you talk about poor people is indistinguishable from conservatives, you are not a progressive.
“Why should rich people pay more” because fuck ‘em
“So you are okay for paying more when you have money” I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘em’ when relevant
“I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘‘em’ when relevant” is surprisingly powerful as both a statement and philosophy
