Hey everyone.

I wanna start this off by saying, I am okay. A bit sore and definitely shaken up, but okay. Earlier today I was in a car accident and my back window is busted.

Right now my plan is to replace my back hatch and window, cause the door was damaged as well. In the longer run I’d prefer a newer car (nothing insanely new, just newer). I still have a deductable and all to pay, and assuming they don’t tell me it’s not worth it, I will be getting my back hatch and window replaced.

I’m not one to reach out for this type of stuff, but if anyone could help me out and donate anything, even a dollar or so, that would be insanely helpful, and I’d be beyond grateful.

Taako wasn't guilty. Never was really.

Never felt it. Even when he thought it was his fault, he only felt about 5% guilty- so he said.

It was Sazed, though, not him, who poisoned those people.

Sazed's fault, not Taako's.

Taako kept repeating that to himself, eyes staring blankly at the ceiling above him.

Eyes staring blank at the fire- mind numb and empty. It had to be empty. Or else all he could see were the eyes- all those eyes wide and scared and panicked. Staring at him. The children, clinging to their parents.

He shook his head, turning onto his side. Not his fault, Sazed's.

His mind was fuzzy with exhaustion. He was just...drained. That was it. He wasn't dealing with anything like the others tried talking to him about.

He was fine, he was Taako damn it.

So why did his chest feel heavier and heavier by the day?

He didn't poison the food! He just didn't taste his dish, and allowed those mini plates to be passed out to the audience. Wives, husbands, spouses, parents, grandparents, children-

Because he couldn't bare the share the spotlight of his cooking. Not with someone who wasn't

He slammed the pillow over his ears full force.

He didn't kill them.

He didn't.

He only fed them what killed them.

Sazed killed them.

Sazed killed them, all because of his jealousy.

All because Taako refused to share the spotlight of cooking, share his kitchen with someone who wasn't L͉͇̘̻̭̹̲̗͚̼̂̊̄͋̔̓̎̅u̺̤̝̱̍͋̀̂̃̆͐͘͟p̶̼̘͙̫̒̍͆̋͆̍͟͠.

His mind went numb for a moment, before he regained his senses. He couldn't bare to share the spotlight or his kitchen because he was selfish. That was it.

His chest tightened once again, and he recalled Candle Nights, baking the macaroons and handing them out. No one noticed how he watched- hovered. Breath held as they even just touched the food.

Magnus and Merle were fine. But the rest of the batch could have been bad. Lucretia was fine, seemed almost too happy to eat them, which filled him with more fear. He didn't want to be the reason her happiness died. Johann, Avi, Killian, Carey, Davenport, Angus- oh God Angus.

Taako shut his eyes, image of the crowd at Glammer Springs blurring, all the faces being replaced with the BoB employees.

Crying out, choking, clutching their throats, eyes welling with tears- Angus-

Taako shot up, pulling a t shirt on (judging by the size it was Magnus'), and exiting the dorm room. He grabbed his umbra staff, allowing it to lean on his shoulder as he made his way to the kitchen.

He'd practice cooking without magic.

Any magic.

He sat the umbra staff down, rubbing his face aggressively. He wouldn't ever be the reason his family got hurt.

He couldn't be.

So if that meant changing how he did things- so be it.

Taako was freaking out. No, he hadn't told anyone- and no, he wasn't planning on it. It was a few days before the trio had to go out to do some BOB management planet side (honestly, Madade Lucretia wouldn't tell thel all the details and Magnus was worried she would blast them with some magic if they didn't stop asking.)

They were packed, they had their nicest outfits ready to go, there was no reason to be worried. Except Angus was sick. He had the fantasy flu- and though Taako bought some fantasy Nyquil and Dayquil, the kid was still sick.

So, Taako was freaking out.

He was bustling around the kitchen, torn between not wanting to ever cook for someone again and wanting to ensure Angus got better.

His hair was pulled back into a messy bun- pieces frizzing and flying out. He was wearing makeup, but the sheen of sweat was visible to the naked eye.

So Magnus stepped forward. "Taako, you know that Carey and Killian and Johann can make some soup for Ango, right? You don't have to if you don't want to."

Taako let out a small huff through his nose, minimum sound, maximum attitude. His ears were pointing back, almost pressed flat against his head. "Who said I didn't want to? I'm fine kemosabe."

Magnus sighed, and Merle watched the two from his seat on a bar stool. "Taako, he's gonna be fine."

"Course he will be!" He turned and the two stared at each other for a moment, "Agnus' is a strong kid. Smart."

"Right..." Magnus watched Taako begin to twiddle with the edge of his apron strings, "Why not just...bring him some water? He's probably not super hungry- just some saltines and water would be good."

Taako nodded. "Right right. Saltines and water," Magnus turned to grab a glass from the top shelf, "The - "

"Driest and wettest sickness combo." Magnus finished with Taako, hardly recognizing he spoke with Taako as the two moved almost in sync to grab what they needed.

Taako paused, and Magnus didn't even notice. "How do you know that phrase?"

"What?"

Merle scratched at his beard, "Yeah- sounds like some shit I said to my kids before."

"You know it too?"

Merle nodded, and Taako huffed. "And here I was thinking I came up with an original phrase when I was a kid- some shit that made me laugh."

Merle laughed. "Tough luck kid- you ain't that original."

Magnus twirled a bit around Taako, as the latter grabbed a amall plate to put the crackers on. Without question, Magnus grabbed an apple to go with the crackers. "To keep the doctors away."

Taako nodded, grabbing the cup and plate before leaving, heading to Angus' dorm from the Bureau Kitchen- the moom BK Merle dubbed it.

As the door shut Merle turned to Magnus. "How'd you know he was upset?"

"Huh?"

"He seemed to be acting normal to me."

"His ears- they weren't normal. And he was more fidgety than normal. And he only acted like that when- " He trailed off, mind going fuzzy. When what?

"When what, Mags?"

"Huh? Oh- dunno. Guess it's my rustic hospitality."

"Jesus fucking Christ."

The two continued bickering, conversation dropped and forgotten. Outside the door, however, the conversation was still in the front mind of one person.

He only acted like that when Lup died one of the years. Lucretia wanted to scream, He only acted like that when someone he loves was in trouble or hurt or gone. And you, Magnus, learned how to tell his signs and comfort him!

She covered her mouth as thoughts and memories played in her mind.

God, she asked herself again, teary eyes looking up, hand over her heart, what had she done to them?

TAZ confession of the day:

I still haven't listened to the last episode of TAZ Balance.

Or the last two episodes of TAZ Amnesty.

Because I'm a scared bitch who doesn't like endings and these things don't end if I don't listen to the ending!

I love Clint McElroy’s characters on The Adventure Zone!

Which one’s your favorite?

  • Beach bum Clint McElroy
  • Con artist Clint McElroy
  • A madwoman. An orphan who’s been so mentally scarred and afraid of passing on that she’s dedicated her life to defeating Death itself. A wizard who’s best friend is a homonculous in the form of a Japanese puppet that looks like it belongs in the devils nursery. A creature who’s brain is shattered, who’s mind is warped, and who’s soul is as dark as the pits of hell
  • Sailor Clint McElroy

Nobody is obligated to like Travis McElroy, but it really really bothers me how often I see criticism that is grounded in nothing more than “idk, he just feels fake.”

He has openly talked on Twitter about having an undiagnosed and heavily stigmatized personality disorder. Most people who have that disorder are terrified to talk about it because it gets them labelled as inherently untrustworthy, abusive, and manipulative, based not on their actions but solely on their neurotype.

It bothers me deeply that it’s the gender nonconforming man with a stigmatized disorder who keeps getting called “fake” and “suspicious.”

Yeah this bugs me too.

Ok, I want to share a story about Travis McElroy and how he’s a genuinely amazing human being.

So, my little sister is a huge fan of the McElroys and the Adventure Zone. So, naturally, she was really hoping to get her comic signed by them at San Diego Comic Con. But in 2018, she got appendicitis during SDCC and missed it. She was pretty upset. Then followed an entire year of her having health problem after health problem, culminating in the fact that the only open slot for surgery to finally take care of them is going to be on the first day of SDCC 2019. Basically, she had the year from hell.

The one silver lining is that it’s an outpatient surgery, so she can attend the other 3 days of the con in a wheelchair. The only things she wants to do are to attend the two McElroy panels and go to the signing to get her comic signed. These are THE ONLY THINGS.

She goes to the first panel, and it’s all good, but then she finds out that she had to go into a lottery to get the tickets for the signing, so she’s not going to be able to go. She was devasted, I mean full-on crying. It was just the straw that broke the camel’s back on the worst year of her life.

I decided fuck that, I’m going to try to make this better. So, on Sunday I ditch my panels to go to the McElroy panel with her on Sunday. It’s not all of them, just Clint and Travis. After the panel, I asked my sister to get her comics out and we can see if we can catch one of them outside. She was like no, it’s not worth it, I don’t want to have to push through the crowds, it’s ok, she’s fine.

I knew she wasn’t ok, so I said, what if I leave you against the hallway wall, and take your comic to them, so you don’t have to get pushed through the crowds. She says, ok do it.

So I sprint towards Travis McElroy, comic in hand, and as soon I get close, words are spilling out, please it’s for my sister, she just had surgery, she came all this way in a wheelchair just to see you. But honestly, I didn’t need to say anything, he was already reaching out to sign it, going oh yeah of course.

So he hands it back to me, I thank him, and think that’s the end of it, but then he goes, wait that your sister, pointing at her. I say yes, and he takes off towards her. When I catch up, he’s greeting her, telling her how good it is to meet her, and then he asks “Can I give you a hug?”

My sister’s face lights up, and she instantly says, yes. I then whipped out my phone, and asked if I could take a picture. Travis goes oh, yeah of course, and puts an arm around her shoulders, while I take it.

After that, he had to leave, and once he did, my sister started crying again, but this time happy tears, telling me that I’m the best big sister ever. It was the best moment of the entire con for me.

So yeah, despite having never seen basically any McElroy content, I will always be a massive fan of Travis because he made that happen. He went above and beyond for a kid he didn’t even know just because he could. So actually, you should like him. You don’t have to be a fan of his work, or think he’s funny, but you should like him, because he’s an amazingly kind person, and the world needs more of that.

Your heart is beating fast, and you're unsure if you're shaking or if you've just lost touch with the reality around you.

Your eyes blur with tears, and your hand has moved to cover your mouth. Your ears are ringing, and your brain can hardly fathom the words being spoken to you.

You're unsure what's going to come next, you're not sure what's going to happen to those you love, to those you haven't gotten to know well enough- and will you be able to? After today?

Will you be able to hear your favorite voice crack jokes again?

Will you hear the laughter you've fallen in love with?

Will you be able to move on after today? While knowing you're going to have to wait for what feels like forever.

You anticipate what comes next, but you fear it. You hope the words spoken don't come, for these words indicate it's over. It's over, and you have to keep waiting.

Any questions you have remain unanswered, any thoughts you manage to have once your mind clears will tear at you.

There's silence, your head is ringing, and you think...maybe. Maybe we have more time?

But then- you hear it...
