âChess pallsâ= The game is dying/over
(*An altered reupload including some reblogs/comments*)
âWhat do you think? Mate in two?â âDonât antagonise them, darling.â âOh, what else is there to do? Chess palls after three months.â âEverything palls.â ~Featuring The Ambassador in TbilisiÂ
âA pall was originally a coffinâs cloak. Now pall usually means that an event or situation is â literally or figuratively â covered in gloom, like disappointing news that casts a pall on your day.â (x)
This is not a game anymore.âÂ
Also a thought: mate in two= âcheckmateâ in two episodes time? The long game finally endsâŠ
@heimishtheidealhusband said:Â I adore this. And hereâs another add on: right before checkmate, Mary busts in with her assassin gear and a gun and pulls the two players away from the game.
đ± she keeps on sabotaging the game!! Ooh @heimishtheidealhusband youâve made me look at the picture from a different angle: folk have already said that the chess pieces on John look like bullet wounds (in the shoulder again too, ouch)- what if the camera PoV is Mary, aiming the gun at John, Sherlock is throwing the chess pieces at her, ending the game? âIt is a game, Lestrade. And not one Iâm willing to play.âÂ
Re blogging to remind people that at the very beginning, the cabbie told us all, âitâs not chance Mr. Holmes, itâs chess.â
Long game, indeed.
Mate in two, lol.
All their pieces are still in the chessboard and have barely moved, most havenât even moved in fact. Well, you could mate in two moves without any side losing any piece. But thatâs the foolâs mate.
The game is only starting.
AMBASSADOR: What do you think? Mate in two? The soldier points his gun and threatens her.
AMBASSADORâS HUSBAND: Donât antagonise them, darling.Â
She is outright lying. This wonât end in two moves but she wants to anatagonise them. She wants to make them angry.
If we think in episodes time, the game wonât end in two episodes, which would mean after The Final Problem.
The Final Problem isnât the end, but they want those keeping them hostage to think that.
AMBASSADOR: What else is there to do? Chess pals after three months.
Itâs just, itâs been three months and they have done nothing since then but playing chess.
And if chess palls after three months, I suppose thatâs the reason why everyone always gives up after three. By the way, weâre entering the fourth month since season 4.
And also, something fun to notice:
This transition hides the chessboard, even though it is and remains at the center of the frame. AGRA is here to hide the game.

Gay men in Russia are being rounded up and put into concentration camps. Â Iâm so beyond upset and Iâm asking you to help spread this information in hopes that it will bring this disgustingly horrible situation more media attention and put additional pressure on Russia to investigate these camps and shut them down.
There is a petition to stop the persecution here and the Russian LGBT Network has a donation page here (it looks pretty legit to me and is associated with a Facebook page with 12,000+ followers, but if anyone can find more information confirming the validity of it that would be beyond appreciated.)
These men are all the way across the world but theyâre part of my community and they need our help. They donât have the same luxuries (basic human rights) that we do and they are in desperate need for us to help speak up for them.Â
You can read the full article here or google the topic for more information. Please.
This doesnât have nearly enough notes, PLEASE SPREAD AWARENESS OF THIS
Iâm tired of girls trying to invalidate their own feelings during times of pain, especially to their friends. Your break up meant something. That friendship you lost was a hard blow. I understand why you feel tired this semester. Sometimes this âmodern womanâ stereotype is patriarchyâs last attempt; patriarchy disguised as feminism. You donât have to be âwise beyond your yearsâ; your pain and crying does not mean you are not intelligent. If you feel your friends demand justification for your pain and ordeals, theyâre not friends. Youâre strong but human. Remind yourself emotional space is part of liberation.
As an Arctic researcher, Iâm used to gaps in data. Just over 1% of US Arctic waters have been surveyed to modern standards. In truth, some of the maps we use today havenât been updated since the second world war. Navigating uncharted waters can prove difficult, but it comes with the territory of working in such a remote part of the world.
Over the past two months though, Iâve been navigating a different type of uncharted territory: the deleting of what little data we have by the Trump administration.
At first, the distress flare of lost data came as a surge of defunct links on 21 January. The US National Strategy for the Arctic, the Implementation Plan for the Strategy, and the report on our progress all gone within a matter of minutes. As I watched more and more links turned red, I frantically combed the internet for archived versions of our countryâs most important polar policies.
I had no idea then that this disappearing act had just begun.
Since January, the surge has transformed into a slow, incessant march of deleting datasets, webpages and policies about the Arctic. I now come to expect a weekly email request to replace invalid citations, hoping that someone had the foresight to download statistics about Arctic permafrost thaw or renewable energy in advance of the purge.
Weâll be continuing our weekly Granada Holmes watchalong this week!
Join us Sunday, April 2Â for the next two episodes of the series, The Musgrave Ritual and The Abbey Grange.
3pm EDT Â // Â 8pm UK
Weâll meet in the Giant Chat of Sumatra (no password needed and all are welcome!). And in case something funky happens with Sumatra, hereâs a  tinychat backup.
MOUTHÂ LIKEÂ AÂ CRIMSONÂ WOUND
FOLLOWING THE TRACE OF LIPSTICK FROM BACK TO START

THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE
Jim and Emelia Ricoletti wearing lipstick in Sherlockâs victorian dream. On Jimâs lips it looks like a bloody Ypsilon. Meaning YOU? Emeliaâs lipstick is heavily applied and smeared roughly. In some scenes she is a mirror for Jim.
A SCANDAL IN BELGRAVIA
Irene Adler sending her camera phone to 221b. Nicely wrapped and with a bow. The color of the paper echoes the shade of her blood red lipstick. This is even highlighted by a flashback to the respective szene earlier in the episode.
But Ireneâs parcel isnât the only one that arrives at 221b this Christmas evening. Molly brings a little gift for Sherlock. Perfectly wrapped with a bow. And the shade of red echoes her lipstick as well as that from Irene.
Several months earlier: Irene Adler dressing for battle. Color-coordinating lipstick and shoes?
A STUDY IN PINK
Jennifer Wilson is the fourth victim of serial killer Jefferson Hope. Who has a sponsor. Sherlock is finally called in on the case by NSY. Working together with John for the very first time.
Molly Hooper ârefreshingâ her lipstick to look good for Sherlock? This is mentioned two times on this episode.
Lipstick smeared all over the show it seams. And turning from pink to crimson. Even the lipstick gets darker with time.
- Irene Adler - âI drove you into her pathâ Mycroft tells Sherlock.
- Jennifer Wilson - sent to Sherlock via a serial killer with a sponsor.
- Jim Moriarty - does he have his own agenda or was he sent too?
- Molly Hooper - ???
_______________________________________________________________
BONUS:
- John greeting Molly with: âHoly Mary!â Â
- Ireneâs gift lying next to âMerry Christmasâ.
Looks like all paths - back and forth - are leading towards âA scandal in Belgraviaâ . Meeting there. Coincidence? I leave you to your own deductions.

Reblogging because of the bloody red mouth of the clown. âITâ by Stephen KIng. Seems to fit with the pattern of the red lipstik.
Very interesting
Isnât there a red balloon in the it Trailer? Like John in tst?
I have no idea what any of this means, but floating red balloons are one of the illusions It creates to attract children in all formats.

Ben: *spills the beans* Mark: Ben :)))) shut the fuck up :)))))))) Mark: (Iâm Mark Gatiss and I will kill again) Mark: ⊠:>
Iâm smiling yet crying inside, please help
This gif comes from Benedictâs answer to the question: âWhat was your first line from series 4?â
Benedict: I donât know also cos, you know weâve⊠Mark: *Hints to Benedict* Shut the fuck up Benedict: We changed, we changed it a bit, uhmâŠÂ Mark: Potatoes.
Potatoes? Oh well, now listen to the other answers. They donât make any sense at all when you compare them to their actual lines in the series:Â
Mark says his first line was âOh Sherlockâ but his actual line is âWhat youâre about to see is classified beyond top secretâ Benedict says his first line was âYesâ but his actual first line was âNo. No!â Amanda tells us she canât say her first line but instead says âI do *this*â. The gesture she makes might refer to the helping hand she offers to Madam Ambassador in Tblisi. She also hints to Mark and Steven that her actual first line is âLady Smallwoodâ, which I think is something weâve never heard in Series 4 - at least not uttered by Mary. So yeah. This is strange. Either none of them had any idea what they were and had been doing, or something else was/is going on.Â
almost like thereâs a version with extra scenes/scenes going in a different order that theyâre not sure of or something, donât know why that could be đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
Not suspicious at all.
For those of you who wanted to know what they said @ofmindandmagic @themanandthemachine
Many Happy Returns in universe happens the day of Johnâs birtday! What if we get our personaL MHR episode the day of Johnâs birthday? Itâs in April according to sherlock.wiki!
Thoughts?
@monikakrasnorada I didnât pay enough attention and so itâs not on his birthday but after âcause Greg had the dvd in a box at the Yard and he remembered about it only now. Also in MHR itâs not specified (Johnâs birthday) in fact I went looking for Johnâs birthdate and Sherlock wiki said April (maybe I should consult another site?) Another thing I saw of note is that the firs tscene of MHR itâs practically the same scene Charlie Welsborough uses to fake his stay in Tibet (I swear itâs the same temple)
Oooo, I definitely will have to check out the Tibetan similarities asap, @swimmingfeelsinajohnlockianpool. If youâre interested, I wrote a meta on MHR ages ago: https://monikakrasnorada.tumblr.com/post/151861809942/many-happy-returns-only-lies-have-detail As for Johnâs birthday, Iâm not familiar with Sherlock wiki, but most things Iâve come across put ACD canon Johnâs birthday as July 7, 1852.
@monikakrasnorada Thank you! Iâll check your meta. About the date I donât know whatâs the truth. Is ACD Sherlockâs birthdate the same as BBCâs?
Yes, Sherlockâs birthday for both ACD and BBC is January 6. https://monikakrasnorada.tumblr.com/post/157419989997/devoursjohnlock-sorry-im-on-mobile-and
And thank you in advance if you read my rambling meta post đ
Love your meta @monikakrasnorada! If I thought that the timeline in s4 was shit this really baffles me! đ”đ”đ” About the birthdates, so we can be 98% sure that Johnâs has the same date as ACD Watson. Good to know. Thank you again! đ
Why must yâall be bringing MHR up @swimmingfeelsinajohnlockianpool @monikakrasnorada đâŠâŠ so yeah, March 31st / April 1st is another fan theory of Watsonâs birth date, while July 7th is the more widely known (read more about it here). The same goes for Holmesâ January 6th birth date, these are all Sherlockian speculations.
Before I go any further, please know that this could be another one of those signs that lead to nowhere. So make of it what you will.
Anyway, I thought John mentioning Sherlockâs birthday sort of came out of nowhere in TLD, even though it did lead to some cakes later (hallelujah). But the dude that argued for January 6th being Holmesâ birthdayâChristopher Morley, American writer and founder of the Baker Street Irregularsâbased his speculation on the references to Twelfth Night, the only Shakespeareâs works that Holmes quoted twice:
The Sign of the Four, âAll is well that ends well.â Act IV, Scene 4. Â
The Empty House, ââJourneys end in lovers meetings,â as the old play says,â from Act II, Scene 3.
Beautiful, isnât it? Especially if you put them in the allegorical context of Holmes/Watson relationship within these stories. Anyway, Holmesâ birthday, twelfth night of Christmas, January 6th, epiphany⊠etc.. Morleyâs backup evidence is the opening of The Valley of Fear, which took place on a January 7th â Holmes was unusually salty in his morning conversation with Watson, possibly due to a hangover from previous nightâs birthday celebration đ.
What do all these have to do with Sherlock? Well, remember my lost-forever-nine-by-nineteen theory that died? The twelfth night from March 19th would be on March 31st. Yeah, could be just another coincidence. But Mark Gatissâ twitter feed has beenâŠâŠcurious; not only with The Prisoner profile pic but a series of tweets since the 19th that mentioned âfourâ and ânineâ (an invert of six whoâs the protagonist in The Prisoner) and âtwelveâ multiple times, and a couple of tweets on TAB winning awards at RTS Bristolâ. And thanks to @gatalema for pointing out the episode that came after The General?
Yes, same title. ARGHHHHHH. I donât know what all this means. Thereâs been a flurry of activities on @contact twitters the last few days as if they are building up to something â I kept going back and forth between whether these are fan-run or Sherlock related, they are quite elaborate either way. However, the fact that The Prisoner was used as a clue (if it were meant to be one) doesnât exactly inspire confidence â the series finale sounded very similar to TFP (Iâve never heard of the series before let alone watching it â just googled). Also, Number Twelve died at the end of The General, plus we have April Foolsâ coming up â so it is just as likely that all this is a roundabout way of Gatiss saying Sherlock is indeed over, as is. Iâd really really like to believe that they are not this cynical, leaving us with TFP as the series finale â but who the hell knows?
For what itâs worth, Iâm rewatching The Prisoner. Itâs been a while, so I canât speak to future relevance, but, in the first episode, characters play chess as a means of distracting themselves from disturbing events, and Number 6 throws an elaborate toy to the floor, smashing it.Â
The redditor from whom I grabbed this picture pointed out that Sherlock is looking directly into the camera here. Hello, fourth wall. Nice to see youâre still broken.
I would be ecstatically happy to see them linger in Prisoner land for their penultimate episode, whoeverâs head weâre in, and land somewhere much closer to reality once whatever plot device that put us there plays out.Â
Thank you, @darlingtonsubstitution, for pointing us to Gatissâs Twitter. Add to the s4 intertext / to watch list:
The plot of The 12 Days of Christine has me just a tiny bit freaked. SPOILERS but any of us who are looking at EMP / mind bungalow / hallucination theoriesâ we might want to pay special attention to this, since it features a character who, apparently, goes through a whole series of life experiences only for it to be revealed at the end that she is, in fact, dying (car crashâŠwho was speculating about that?):
Christine (Smith) arrives home to her flat with Adam (Riley), whom she has just met at a New Yearâs party. Thirteen months later, it is Valentineâs Day and Christine chats with her flatmate Fung (Liu) at home. Christine is dating Adam, but receives a card from her first boyfriend, whom she has not seen since childhood. On Motherâs Day, Christineâs mother Marion (Dotrice) visits. Marion reveals that Christineâs first boyfriend died as a teenager, which Christine had forgotten. Marion urges Christine to marry Adam; Christineâs father Ernie (Copley) has Alzheimerâs disease and is deteriorating. The following year, Adam moves in with Christine at Easter. Christine begins to prepare a surprise for him, but is disturbed when an egg smashes on a nearby wall. In her kitchen, she is approached by an unknown man, the Stranger (Shearsmith).
Christine, now pregnant and married, awakens on a May bank holiday. Thirteen months later, it is Fatherâs Day and Adam tends to their son Jack (played variously by Joel Little and Dexter Little) in the night. Christine hears the Strangerâs voice, but eventually finds Jack with Adam. Christine celebrates her birthday thirteen months later. Ernie no longer recognises Christine, while Adam is more interested in his colleague Zara (Ellerby). Marion blindfolds Christine for a game of blind manâs buff. Christine hears noises from behind a door and removes her blindfold to step through. Thirteen months later, Adam is packing a case for a family holiday. Ernie has died, and Christineâs relationship with Adam is strained.
Now divorced from Adam, Christine films Jack as he gets ready for his first day of school. Left alone in the flat, Christine is comforted by Ernie as she cries. On Hallowe'en of the next year, Christine dresses up with her friend Bobby (Pemberton), a colleague at Clarks. Someone Christine assumes to be Adam enters the flat to pick up Jack. When Adam calls at the door, Christine goes to Jackâs room and finds Jack in the arms of the Stranger. On Bonfire Night, Christine arrives home with Jack, who has burnt his hand. Marion finds that Jack is not injured, but says that Christine was burnt when she was Jackâs age.
It is Christmas, and Christine is having dinner with Marion, Ernie, Fung, Bobby and Adam. Christine unwraps her present to find an album of photos from her life. She says that she feels as if her life is flashing before her eyes, and then realises what is happening. Christine sits in a car wreck as emergency services attempt to free her. On the front seat & window screen, there are broken eggs from a shopping bag and The Stranger is explaining to the police that he stepped into the road causing the crash, and, though he could free Jack he could not reach Christine. At the dinner table, Jack enters dressed as a Nativity angel. Marion says it is time for Christine to move on. Christine says a final goodbye.
@221bloodnun since you directed me here, and @longsnowsmoon5 for your intertext interests, and @monikakrasnorada in case your crew finds this useful. @devoursjohnlock because youâve been deep diving into the occasional intertext too. @swimmingfeelsinajohnlockianpool I bet you never expected your post to go this far sideways, huh? xoxo
Wow, I have no idea what any of this means, @may-shepard, in relation to anything (reading this makes my brain as scrambled as those eggs) but WHY is the first thing to pop into my head the tunnel car scene that WE NEVER SAW? @tjlcisthenewsexy @gosherlocked @isitandwonder @ebaeschnbliah
^^ This! With regards to Johnâs birthday: IF we consider the contactSH and contactJHW Twitter accounts to be BBC/Hartswood Films related, then Johnâs birthday is on theâŠ
Yes. Thank you, John.Â
