So glad I found this quote again. It really spoke to me in the movie. Real strength isn’t about stepping on other people, it’s about helping those less fortunate than oneself. It’s about using empathy to create a better world.
Do you know why you were born stronger than the others? So that you can save weaker people. Those who were born blessed with more gifts than others are obligated to use those gifts for the world and for other people. You must never use that God-given strength to hurt others or for personal gain. It is the duty of those born strong to help the weak. It is a mission they must fulfill responsibly. Make sure you never forget that. –Rengoku Ruka
Think. Be honest with yourself before you turn your body into a science experiment for the medical system to publish statistics on in 50 years. There is no reversal. There is no going back. This is not a decision you can take back. No youtube video, tumblr thread, subreddit, twitter thread or tiktok can give you enough advice to put your body parts back together. It is ok to just be yourself.
“Sometimes I feel nostalgic over something I haven’t lost yet because I see it’s transience. So how does one respond to this? Do we love harder? Do we squeeze tighter? Or do we embrace the Buddhist creed of no attachment; do we we pretend not to care that everything and everyone we know is going to be taken away from us? I don’t know if I can accept that. I side more with the Dylan Thomas quote, ‘I will not go quietly into that good night, but instead rage against the dying of light!’ We defy entropy and impermanence with our films and our poems. We hold onto each other a little harder and say, ‘I will not let go! I do not accept the ephemeral nature of this moment. I’m going to extend it…forever…or at least I’m going to try.’”
