There's nothing quite like the rush of serotonin that comes with creating something you are proud of. And I don't mean a whole work. Very rarely am I proud of my work as a whole, but there is beauty in the pieces. A perfectly written line, a well placed brush stroke, a matching shade of green. These are the pieces I cherish most as a creator.

It's dark. So dark. Harley can barely see an inch in front of her nose. And there’s dust everywhere. It's in her hair and it’s coating her skin. It’s stinging her eyes and filling her lungs.
Everything hurts.
There’s fanfiction…. And then there’s FANFICTION. The kind of shit you happen upon at like 3am or some other ungodly time because you were trying to find a fix for ur fixation at the time and you are just SUCKED IN and every sentence feels like a line of cocaine and it has quotes and imagery that permeate your brain and it’s the shit that sticks around in your consciousness forever and it never goes away and it’s always going to be one of Those Fics.
You know what is the worst? Being a reader trying to catch up on fics WHILE bring a writer who is behind on writing their own fics.
I am in this post, and I don’t like it.

Please please please do NOT pirate books if you want to keep having books to read. The median income for full-time authors in 2017 is reported at $20,857. That means half of all authors reporting income made LESS.
And of the authors that reported that they were, in fact, full-time authors, only 63% had ANY earnings to report. The average of those who did earn something was $43,247. Which means, looking at the difference between the median and average, the average is heavily weighted by the superstars.
MOST of your favorite authors are either working a second (or third, or more) job, have a partner who earns more money, or is living hand-to-mouth, or some combination of the three.
Libraries are your friends. Most have ebook collections now. I know readers gotta eat, but writers do too.

If you cannot afford to buy books, please go through your public library! When you get a library card, you’ll also be able to sign up to rent audiobooks; a librarian can help you if you’re not sure how. Libraries are an important part of the book ecosystem, and when you get a book for free from the library, you’re still supporting the author.
