Hey! I just have a quick question: In the photo set of a model in green carrying a backpack that you recently reblogged, is there a name for the red strips of cloth that hold his sleeves back? Thanks! I love your blog so much!

Hi, glad you love my blog!

Those red strips of cloth that hold his sleeves back in this photoset are called  Panbo/襻膊. As early as the Han dynasty, the Chinese used Panbo to tie their sleeves higher so that they could do things more conveniently. The most expensive Panbo was made of silver thread, and was used by top female cooks.

Below - a Panbo tutorial for Hanfu (Quju):

Hope this helps!

This is random but would you do a top about 10 most popular Hanfu styles? (even better, 2018 most famous Hanfu styles!) Ruqun seem to be the most popular one

Hi, thanks for the suggestion!

There’s a Weibo blog called Hanfu Zixun/汉服资讯 (Hanfu Information) that compiles statistics on the hanfu industry, and they have an article on the top hanfu styles/items sold on Taobao in 2018, by sales volume (%). You can go to the Source (in Chinese) to get more information on the methodology and finer details. Please note that the list below only includes women’s styles/items, and the percent values are rounded. For definitions of hanfu names & terms, please see my guide to the different types of hanfu. Now without further ado, the list:

Top 10 Most Popular Hanfu Styles/Items of 2018 (click on text for image sources):

Note: see the #11-16 spots, as well as lists for men’s styles, at the Source.

Some comments:

- Ruqun was the most popular style, with waist-high ruqun and chest-high ruqun taking the #1 and #2 spots, respectively.

- Ming dynasty styles had a strong showing, with four spots in the top 10: Aoqun (#3), Upright-collar Ao (#6), Upright-collar Shan (#7), and Pifeng (#10).

- Quju, which used to be one of the most popular hanfu styles (if not the most popular style) during the early days of the hanfu revival movement, has now fallen to #15 (0.18%).

My favorite style of hanfu is waist-high ruqun, which got #1 on the list. Did your favorite hanfu style/item make it into the top 10? ^^

i have a question! as of now, do teenagers and young women still wear hanfu? i know there’s a hanfu revival movement going on, but is it normal to see people wear hanfu or hanfu influenced clothes walking around the street?

Hi, thanks for the question!

I answered part of your question in my reply here, so please check it out! To answer your specific question - yes, because of the hanfu revival movement, more and more teenagers and young women/men are wearing hanfu. I wouldn’t say it’s currently “normal” to see people wearing hanfu or hanfu-influenced clothes walking around the street, but it’s definitely becoming more common and accepted, compared to before. I have a compilation of hanfu street fashion photos in my post here.

Here are some more examples:

It’s not just women - men are in on the trend too!

For more photos/resources, please check out my hanfu movement and street style tags. Hope this helps!

I thought it was going to be hilariously expensive, but oddly it’s only $600 (not much more than my Rebel T3 kit that was $450)

The lens is apparently equivalent to 2000mm telephoto.
