So, not too long ago I unintentionally posted a draft of fanfic that was inspired by @bechobbi , @mazfxcker and I regarding how Sam met Sullivan when he was younger.... Since I accidentally posted that when it wasn't ready to be put out there yet, {must've been in my doggone sleep or something 🤣😒😤😩😧} I deleted it and have to rewrite said fic. Lol I should've wrote it down on paper first... Apologies to anyone who already liked it.

Him (Sam Drake x Reader)

The sound of the waves clashing against the shore calms your racing thoughts immediately, with the sun kissing your skin and the wind blowing against your face. You have stopped thinking about Sam as you let nature slow the pace of your beating heart.

Ever since Sam’s disappearance, you couldn’t help but come to this beach where the both of you would go to during the holidays of your three-year-relationship. He said that there was just something exciting about exploring the world and how you can never really see what’s out there unless you cross the ocean. He always talked about it, just like how a kid keeps talking about a present they want for Christmas.

This gave you the thought that maybe the nearest beach would be the place to go whenever you both felt like “traveling.”

Now he’s been gone for nearly a month and the feeling of loneliness started to seep into you again. Looking at albums, video-tapes and anything that reminded you of him only made it worse—except for this beach.

You lay your back onto the sand, closing your eyes as the rays of the sun starts to sting. The sound of the ocean lulls makes you drift off into your memories.

“Got a light?” He came up to you at a cafe as you were writing an article for a magazine.

You looked at him with an apologetic smile. “No.” You said, and he chuckled.

“Oh…” He placed both of his hands in his pockets, looking around the cafe with his cheeks starting to turn pink. “Kinda guessed it.” He took out a hand and introduced himself and you did the same.

Seeing as to how polite and good-looking he was, you wanted to get to know him better. You invited him to sit on the chair across from you as you closed your laptop and placed it back in your bag that was hanging from the chair.

An awkward silence filled in the air as the both of you looked around the cafe; you let your mind wander as to what topics to talk about only to realize the sneaky thing he just did. “Hold on…” You said and he looked at you with eyebrows raised. “Was that your way of getting to know me?”

The tips of his lips raised to a smug smile, putting out both his hands on the table and scooting closer to you. “Did it work?” He asked and you slump back into your chair, laughing.

You blushed from that introduction, impressed that he managed to even get this far into getting to know you. Normally, you would be playing hard to get with other men, not wanting to waste time into relationships as achieving your goals was more important to you.

But this was different and you knew deep down into your gut that he’s not someone to waste time on.

Even if that happened a few years ago, your heart still flutters from the thought of it. As you opens your eyes, you could only wish that he was laying right beside you, his arms around your shoulder as the both of you would exchange jokes, flirts and stories.

Raising up from the sand you look back at the parking lot to see another car drive in, your heart jumping out of your chest as you hope it’s Sam coming here to see you. As the car door open, your breath is caught between your throat as you see the familiar sleeked back hair, but belonging to a different face. Two other doors open and out comes the wife with the kids.

Your heart sinks down your gut and you can only look back at the sea, hoping that he managed to explore the world like he wanted.

“Alright, how about Panama?” He asked you during dinner.

By this time, you have been tolerating the talks about traveling, but you would much rather stay at home and work to earn money. “No.” You said and you heard him give out a sharp breath.

“C’mon, it’ll be great! Nice beaches, great weather—”

You cut him off by letting out a sigh, resting both your elbows onto the table as you placed both hands on your forehead, unable to take any more of this.“You know I can’t because of my job, right?”

A clanking sounds makes you jump and you stare at him. “Aren’t you the least bit thrilled about the idea?”

“Sam, I would love to—”

“But you can’t.” He finishes, slumping back into the chair and staring at you, bouncing his leg that made the table shake.

Since that night, he had stopped talking about his dreams of going to foreign countries. When you woke up one morning, unable to find him or get a hold of him, you already had a feeling that he left.

I just wish you happiness, Sam. You thought, squinting your eyes as seagulls fly by. I just wish I didn’t think of you so much like how you thought about leaving.

Months later, you fight the urge to wish for him to come back because you can’t bear to think about loving anyone else but him.

SAM LOVES NATE MORE THAN YOU THINK

Ok, so ace–jace and I were having an important conversation about why Sam is such a good character and why he truly, entirely and purely loves his baby brother. Let’s just focus for a second.

To be honest, the main reason for everything that happened (with this lie about Alcazar) is because we think Sam has communication issues.

Nate says that Sam gives him big gifts when he’s trying to make up for something, which makes us think he probably doesn’t verbally say “I’m sorry” very often, another small hint that maybe he doesn’t communicate very well. And there’s a reason for that. This kid has been through a lot of shit (his mother’s death and his father being a complete fucked up asshole). He was always feeling the responsibility of “I need to be strong for Nathan, he cannot see me weak, see me cry, see me being tired” and he was only a child, I REPEAT, he was only a child! It creates a wall in his mind, blocking him from saying things like “I’m sorry” or “I love you”. He doesn’t say it. He can’t say it because he’s never been allowed to speak his emotions before. He proves it through his actions.

The fact that we were able to see two times that Sam was ready to take a bullet for Nate and he eventually did it - it makes me cry like a baby. (”Hey, hey, hey, you keep your gun on me” and the time when Rafe wanted to shoot Nate, Sam protected his brother with his own goddamn body). It’s not only “the big things” like saving Nate’s life that matter. Offering Nate a warm jacket, making him laugh, listening to his problems, making sure he eats, all of it makes Sam a good brother.

Why is he not telling Nate the truth about Alcazar? Because of his communication issues. Because he was left in prison for 15 years. Because him and his brother, finding Avery’s treasure was the only thought that was keeping him alive for those 15 years. Sure, after Rafe helps him get out of the prison he spends nearly 2 years with Rafe, but have you ever thought why? First of all, he sees that it’s not his brother buying his freedom. It’s Rafe. How heartbroken must he feel?

Then, let’s say, he finds out that Nate is married. That he is done with the life Sam knew. Why should he come back to Nate, then? Coming back to Nate would mean destroying the last memory of his brother, and his old life Sam remembered so well. He was scared he would not be able to face the new reality. He was scared he would not recognize his baby brother. His baby brother, the person that he’d DIE FOR. So he thinks “maybe I should leave him be and try to find this treasure with Rafe”. Then he realizes that finding this goddamn treasure with Rafe is not as special as it would be with Nate. Nothing and no one compares to Nate. So he finds Nate and tells him a story about Alcazar. He lies because he feels like this is the only way to make his brother come back to HIM, because Sam’s scared he would not be able to be a part of Nate’s new life. He doesn’t feel like he belongs, if he’s not trying to find this treasure. And because he wants to do this with, and only with Nate, he lies. Alternatively, Sam might actually feel like, if he doesn’t complete this last treasure hunt, the treasure hunt he’s been planning alone for 15 years, the final adventure his brother and him have been looking forward to their whole lives, than his life is incomplete. He doesn’t know what to do without this part of his life; he feels lost, similarly to what he said at the end of the game but at a less satisfied level—if he didn’t complete this journey with his brother, there would be no point to finding Avery’s treasure for him. Sam’s never like “I love you Nathan” which is the sentence most people would say to their loved ones without hesitation if they were nearly dying like Sam was on the ship, unable to move because of this a wooden beam.

Also, Nate loves Sam more than anything:

Sam’s never like “I love you Nathan”, he puts his love for his baby brother in one sentence - “all I ever wanted to do was to find this treasure, WITH YOU” which translates into “I love you, you are the most important thing on Earth to me”.

Nathan responds the same way because he won’t go without Sam. Sam’s yelling for him to go and Nate is looking all around for a way to get Sam out and you can see him panicking.

Then he sees the canon and he just goes for it, he doesn’t say what he’s doing, he just lights it on fire and runs back to Sam’s side to get him free.

SAM SAYS “I LOVE YOU” BY TELLING HIM TO GO, AND NATE RESPONDS “I LOVE YOU TOO” BY NOT GOING.
