Sony really went hard into the "experimenting with formats" thing in the 1990s, didn't they?

Sony is just a format inventing company that does other stuff as a side-gig.

That is only barely a joke. I've done presentations on floppy disks and optical discs and the number that Sony invented is staggering.

Like, they did a temporary museum exhibit back in 2016 and they had a wall of storage mediums they invented.

And frankly I could list another dozen they forgot.

Where's XQD? Professional Disc? SxS Pro? Optical Disc Archive? Memory cards for PS1 and PS2? UDO? DDCD? Ruvi? Hell, they seem to have left out U-matic, which was the granddaddy of VHS & Beta. Video Single Disc? Data Discman? MicroMV? Type C videotype?

Seriously. Sony is a format-inventing machine.
