(Pinning this for now, since I’ve discovered how to pin posts, 20 years later. I have an updated about page currently in the works. In the meantime I have clipped the current about page much shorter, because honestly, it’s just ancient and I don’t like it very much. I apologize if this inconveniences any new people. Please feel free to ask me about my muse for writing purposes if at all necessary! An update rules and mun page will also be included with the about, alongside updated relevant headworld information (or at least an updated description of Yorshov and the Yorshovian people) )

(When a Yorshovian sheds their secondary set of teeth (flat molar ones) and their tertiaries (sharpened ones) grow in, it’s considered a final sign of adulthood, and that period of time ( ~20 years old generally) is something of a transitional phase, with hormonal shifts not unlike a watered down puberty. Physically, there are changes in dentition and the bones of the jaws, claws will start to darken more notably, and the spectrum of sounds a Yorshovian can make (esp the volume they can reach) will have finished broadening.

Mentally, the person in question may experience moodiness, auditory fixations, and a tendency to be louder/more social or verbal than usual.

Culturally, someone losing their secondary set of teeth is usually noted with some small celebration.

At the time Vincent was going through this he was institutionalized. )

The murky raven lands atop Vincent's fresh prey, but instead of pecking at its flesh Xavier bites into Vincent's hand. It isn't hard, yet he doesn't let go– oh dear.

The impulse rolls over Vincent to snap his teeth at the incoming bird, or else (Something of a hunting habit) to go still and wait for the moment to turn a scavenger into a part of the meal. It would be a not unsubstantial addition to the raccoon.. But no. Not this one. A chuff is followed by a few sniffs to identify the bird, but it's unnecessary. That piercing red eye gives him who this visitor is even before the bite. It stops him in place, brow furrowing, claws unhooking from the giving skin of the carcass to draw their paw up, up into the air. A real raven would be lifted by its own jaws. He's curious if Xavier is stubborn enough to let the same happen to him. "What would you l-like.?" Though his voice sounds a little distant, he actually perks up, diligent, eyes meeting Xavier's with no hesitation. There's actually something warm in what he's feeling, whether it manages to reach his face. "Or.." A hint of fondness gets through there- there's reason to think Xavier wouldn't seek him out unless it was to do with his brother. "What would he?"

you know i don’t think we often talk about how difficult it actually is to suddenly realize that a belief you thought was good and moral and correct was actually really fucking toxic. how you have to look at something and go ‘oh shit, oh i fucked up. oh this is going to take probably years at minimum to deprogram from my brain because of all the little ways this shit pervaded the rest of my beliefs’

so. to all the people picking up all the pieces of a recently shattered world-view and trying to figure out what is safe to keep and what has to be thrown away and started over

to all the people having to relearn how to even listen to other people

to all the people putting in the work to do better while struggling with the guilt that comes from finding out you were the asshole

i’m proud of y’all.

it’s hard to admit being wrong and even harder to change in the aftermath. just keep doing the best you can and just know that the effort is appreciated. everyone can change. everyone can do better. keep fighting.

For anyone who remembers these guys from when I'd drawn them years ago- I'm finally working on a proper reference for one of Yorshov's major food animals! These guys are fungivores with prominent digging/scraping teeth, and distinct sexual dimorphism (with a few different morphs among males)
