Inktober 2017 - Day 2: Divided

“Divided in bodies but united in shadows…” The twins. Dirthamen and Falon’din from Dragon Age.

Cullen: Where did you…say you acquired this? Trevelyan: The Cradle of Sulevin.  Cullen: And it was just, lying around? Trevelyan: More or less, it was very heavily guarded. :3 Cullen: Well…it must have been used for some- ceremonial purpose. I can’t see this proving very useful in the field… Trevelyan: Maybe it’s enchanted. ;D “…….” Cullen: Maker- you’re lucky I love you.

So I was pretty taken with the Revenant armor… and it reminded me of- when you see female undead/draugr with embellishments. And then this happened?

“It sounds so crass when you say it like that. Of course I could leave off fucking them. But why should I? Whom, then, should I fuck instead, O brother mine? Fen’Harel? Sylaise? I’d rather stick it in a barb trap, it would be warmer and more pleasant for everyone involved.”

Dir seemed not to have noticed that Falon’Din had won the round. He slid the cards back into his hands, shuffling them with dexterous skill before doling them out again. “What about that one with the two-colored eyes? The girl. I’d trade for her.”

"Well, there’s my point proven exactly,” Dirthamen said flatly. His irritation over losing the hand was fleeting, overtaken by his irritation at Falon’din’s inability to think beyond the measure of his cock.  “You couldn’t leave off a bedwarmer of any sort.”

Image

“Would you care to make it interesting?” Dir asked, his fingertips worrying the corner of the single card in his grasp. “If you can abstain from getting your cock wet, I’ll gift you the girl with the differing eyes. And throw in one of the white-haired wisps I stole from Mythal. God knows I have far too many of those. Maybe two, then.”

“And therein lies the issue,” Falon’Din said with a note of feigned wonder. “You want him because you think I’m taken with him. So you want to poke him full of holes and drain him like a fruit? I think not.”
Image
If the slave was alarmed by that kind of talk, he didn’t show it. Falon’Din threw down another card to clear out his deck. “But I might trade you,” he said, nonchalant and aloof. “If you care to rid yourself of those blond triplets.”

Dirthamen cocked a brow. “All of a sudden open to negotiations,” he observed, tapping the fan of his cards with a contemplative finger. “What a wonder that only a moment ago you were so unwilling to part with him.”

Image

“You must take me for a fool, though. As though I would ever part with such a rare and unusual find. I don’t care if you’ll return them to me spent and surfeit with your seed. They’ll be useless unless they’re intact.” His eyes narrowed with circumspect judgment. “Could you leave off fucking your slaves even for a day? A week. A month is laughably out of the question, I know. But I’ve never known you to demonstrate any capacity for restraint in that matter. I wonder if you have any.”

Avatar
“No,” Falon’Din said, slowly and well-enunciated, like addressing a pouting child. “He’s not for you. You have your own.”
Image
A poor play from his brother. He took advantage of it, throwing in one of his more valuable cards before drawing another with gold-ringed fingers. “This wouldn’t be about something else, would it? Because this feels an awful lot like acting out. A bit like when you feel you aren’t getting enough attention. But that can’t be it, since we’re speaking right now and that would be irrational, Dir.”

"Attention?” Dirthamen gave a malignant scoff, infuriated that he’d been spoken to as though her were a child to be admonished. And that Falon’din had spoken true. “You think I sit and wait for you to dote on me, don’t you? As though I have no duties or interest beyond you.” He wasn’t entirely wrong in that, but Dirthamen could hardly admit to that.

Image

“I simply thought he would make an interesting specimen. You could say he inspired me. You’re familiar with that sentiment, aren’t you, brother?” He gave a short, sharp laugh through his nose. “I didn’t realize you were so taken with him.”

Avatar
He barely heard what Dir had said—he was in a mood, so likely something petulant—but he caught the tail end of it. Lending his slaves. Like Dir didn’t have a multitude at his disposal.
Image
He chose a card at random and tossed it into view. “I wonder what you could want with that,” he asked with a put-upon curiosity. “I’ve noticed that whenever I lend you my property, I never seem to get it back. I’m sure your sanguine pastimes have nothing to do with that, do they, brother?”

An uncharacteristically imprudent turn. He really was distracted. And Dirthamen’s mood darkened.

Image

“A little exsanguination never hurt anyone,” he said airily, affecting the same inattention his brother put on. “If a slave cannot endure it, I don’t see why that should be any cause for concern. There is a reason we have a legion of them at our disposal. Chattel. Will you lend me your slave or no?”

There were few things that could distract Falon’din from his cards, and it vexed Dirthamen to see that the rather generous backside of his current favorite was what currently kept his attentions.

“It’s your turn,” he pointed out, not bothering to keep his irritation less obvious. A wicked thought came to him then. “I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind lending me use of oe of your slaves.”

am i the only one who feels suspicious about this room in Skyhold??

So through further research I have uncovered a few things about this

- that symbol in the upper left hand corner of the large book is the “symbol of the gateway” from the Necronomicon (h.p. lovecraft) - the symbol that looks like a staff on the bottom of the right page of the large book might be some version of the “rod of asclepius” - there are owl symbols in this room as well (behind my inquisitor in this shot unfortunately)

Basically I’m saying this room looks like one big symbolic gold mine!!

I’ve also looked at the large book a little more closely in this screenshot and it almost looks like the text might be legible if you could get a closer angle on the book? And I’d definitely be interested in getting a better view of those more faint symbols on the book!!

I’d also like to point out that this room isn’t one you can access when you first get to skyhold, in fact it’s walled off completely. The stairs to reach the vault area don’t even exist until you leave skyhold and come back. This room could have been sealed off for quite a while!

And wouldn’t it be just typical of bioware to put answers, hints, or important lore right under our noses in a dusty old room that seemingly serves no purpose and is easily forgotten?

In addition to all of this, the room is directly under solas’ room in skyhold (confirmed via flycam)

There’s the Owl. Falon’din?
