people talk so fondly of old tumblr roleplays & how the rpc has changed and i feel y’all but speaking as someone who ran a tumblr harry potter rp in 2011….. lemme just say that some things have changed for the better

okay listen i don’t think you guys understand what i’m talking about... this was an hp next gen roleplay and i was the sole admin for about 4 months (at the age of 13) before i left & it was WILD

  • the youngest person in the rp was this 12 y/o girl & she played the BIGGEST mary sues, but i never rejected her applications because i felt bad. at one point she played twin sisters who were the daughters of bellatrix black & were psychic & vampire queens.
  • she eventually got bullied out which is fucked up not only b/c bullying is wrong, but also b/c she was 12 and some of the people making fun of her were adults... jesus christ
  • there were no faceclaims. there was a picture of your character as your icon, but we didn’t talk about who would portray them or use gifs or anything. i didn’t even use actors. one of my characters was theodore nott jr. and i distinctly remember googling “emo guy” and choosing someone’s myspace photo as his profile.
  • there was no ooc chat or group and instead of just writing in the tags, we literally would write ooc notes in our posts. sometimes it wouldn’t even be at the beginning or end of the post, it’d be IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACTUAL PARA.
  • no one cut posts. no one even knew what that meant. threads were so long, it took ages to scroll through your dashboard.
  • no tagging system, we died like MEN
  • people (including myself) would randomly join in on other people’s paras without their permission. i remember one time these two characters, andrew and greg, were sitting on the couch, about to make out, and my character (james sirius) just showed up and started cockblocking. amazing
  • at the beginning we used to use asterisks to indicate actions: *sweeps up the floor* ugh! look at the broken glass!
  • aaaaand this was my theme for one of my charas:
