So, like a lot of people (by their own fannish testimony), the first time I tried to watch The Untamed I bounced off the first few minutes, but when I tried again later it didn’t take me very long to be sucked in. It happened in the first episode. In fact I can pinpoint the exact moment it happened.
It was this moment right here. The unbearable fondness on Wei Wuxian’s face when Lan Wangji shows up, even though he had been telling the juniors not to call him for help like five minutes ago. That lovely little smile that’s so soft and a little sad, for nobody else to see, that’s what did it. That’s the moment there was a little ping in my heart that made me think, oh, okay, okay, so nothing makes any fucking sense and the effects are godawful (but the wigs are so abundant) and I desperately want to know what this story is about.
