5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself

Uhh, I have no idea how to really accurately guess a number like this, but—a lot! Haha. I guess I don’t post like 70-75% of my work online—if I had to estimate?—I do share a decent amount with close friends, but most of it stays with me! I struggle a lot with perfectionism, so I feel as though a lot of my art isn’t good enough for public perception, but that’s something I’m working on and will hopefully get over eventually.

7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate

I think the first one that comes to mind is Tattooing? Like—it’s literally so wild to me that people are talented (most of the time, we’ve all seen bad tattoos, haha!) enough to literally paint a picture on someone’s skin that will last forever! As someone with tattoos, the work and skill these artists have is truly inspiring! Another one I’d say, and a rather in the box answer, would be Watercolor—you really have to think about opacity, layering, and so many other things to make a delicate medium like this one pop. So any artists out there that use these two mediums: Props to you!

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

Answered in previous post!

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

Cartoon-esque styles is the first one that comes to mind? I just love seeing how people adapt human/animal anatomy into a simplistic/exaggerated form? Like, any sort of style that elongates features or enlarges them and pulls it off in a way that’s aesthetically pleasing is super cool and neat to look at! I guess an example of this would be how people do that cool little thing with the eyelashes? Where it bleeds into the skin? 😅 I hope you know what I mean, haha! I also love painting styles—people who are able to paint all on one layer are like AMAZING to me, I certainly could never!

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

Ummm, that’s a hard one! 😅 I really don’t like to speak for other people—especially other artists in this case—but if I had to choose something, I guess I would say expressions? I really do love drawing emotions and contorting facial features to captivate a certain mood. It’s fun!

14. Any favorite motifs

As sad as I am to admit this, I’m not really a huge fan of art motifs in the literal sense—I’m very much an admirer of organic construction when it comes to art, so the repetition of pattern we see in visual motifs isn’t something I really find myself drawn to. This is in regards to motifs that represent recurring patterns or fragments, such as: mandalas, some art deco pieces, and geometric art respectively; while they are all visually striking, appealing to the the eye, and aesthetically pleasing, it’s just not something I’m interested in exploring or incorporating into my work.

I’m not really sure if this counts, but I do like works that repeat facial or body features in a way that seems both mesmerizing and uncanny. Some examples would be:

Art by Emilio Villalba.

This piece found here.

Visual theme motifs on the other hand, I really do like! I could go on and on about how I like how certain themes/ideas/metaphors are incorporated visually and how subtle artistic storytelling is something I really strive for in some pieces. To cut this short: some favorite themes I really like to explore is via the human psyche and how human emotions/thoughts/feelings can be incorporated in a single picture and without having to say anything. An easy example would be how certain lighting and colors can easily represent specific emotions or feelings.

Anyway, motifs are very interesting and something I never really thought about before this question, hah! But it was fun to think about! :)
