Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin confirm they will continue with EXO activities regardless of their contract termination.

The three members shared in a recent statement from their legal representative that they are dedicated to continuing EXO activities with the other members, even if their contracts with SM Entertainment are terminated.
The members also deny the claims from SM that they had signed double contracts with another company. They reiterated their issues from the first statement in which SM refused their viewing of earning data + the issues they have with the unreasonably long contracts SM tries to sign artists into, lasting as long as 17-18 years.Ā
They thanked fans again for their support and love over the years.

EXO and SM...

I remember when I started this blog, one of the biggest stories to hit the news was EXOā€™s China line leaving the group and SM Entertainment (minus Lay). Now weā€™ve come full circle, the tradition continues and Baekhyun, Chen, Xiumin are also filing for contract terminations to get out of SM, signaling the end of EXO. This one is going to be a long readā€¦

I knew SM never stopped mentally and financially abusing their idols (especially considering how all their idols magically stayed for +10 years). A little more backstory. After half of TVXQ left SM in 2009 because of those now infamous slave-contracts, and basically getting paid pennies when they brought in millions, SM blacklisted the boys, as well as Hangeng from Super Junior, who also left for similar reasons, but promised to change (a lie).

A few years ago, Girls Generationā€™s Jessica (who got kicked out in 2014) wrote her ā€œfantasy bookā€ about the shady contracts all the idols were forced to sign (rookies sign a 7-year-contract plus an additional 3-year-extension-contract, meaning the idols couldnā€™t freely negotiate better terms after the first one was up). Then in 2014, EXOā€™s Chris, Luhan and Tao left for the same exploitive contracts (proving SM hadnā€™t changed but found a loophole around new labor laws).

All those idols, Jaejoong, Junsu, Luhan, Jessica, etc. are still not able to promote their solo material on music shows, because SM threatened to not let their remaining idols visit those same shows. So cowardly, the TV stations backed SM and blocked everyone who filed a lawsuit to rightfully terminate those terrible contracts. Let me repeat that, the idols won against SM and were allowed to get out of those slave-contracts, but were punished for it by almost losing their careers. This was SMā€™s tactic for a long time to stop idols from leaving them (ā€backstab us, and you will never promote on TV againā€).

Well, itā€™s 2023 and three EXO members just filed a lawsuit to get out of their slave-contracts with SM. Yes, SM never stopped financially abusing their idols, even though fans kept denying the incredibly unfair +10-year-contracts. We already know that Red Velvet have those long contracts, because there was zero news about their renewals after 7 years, like with pretty much every other k-pop group. And Iā€™m pretty sure all of NCT and aespa were forced to sign those terrible contracts as well.

We will see how things unfold and whether the rest of EXO terminates their contracts as well, or whether more of the older idols finally speak up about their situation. Maybe even NCT members will try to get out of their contracts, it would be a glorious end to the shady, abusive company that SM is (and fuck Lee Soo Man for stealing idols money, embezzling it, blacklisting innocent singers after draining every penny out of them, and emotionally scaring them for life).

you know what is almost poetic comedy about the news about ChenBaekXi leaving? The way that Chen stays winning. some deluded no-brain asshole EXO-Ls wanted him out and he manged to do that BUT twist it into a win. love that for him

Coming back to say: DON'T TRUST THAT SM SNAKE!! They are trying to pin this on cbx (comeback not happening etc.), but our boys are ALWAYS right. So just trust and support them! We are onešŸ‘

Levanter anon: sounds like SM Entertainment is having a chaotic time once again.

On a more lighthearted note, if you look at the graph of SM stock prices going down, it looks like a cat now. 'Tis the EXO-dus cat!

But jokes aside: what will happen to EXO now? How many group members would be left in the company (assuming the don't also leave after the first group of members)? Where will the leaving members go?

Also, will this affect other SM groups? I am not the most familiar with them, but I hear SM groups are very interconnected, with NCT and Superm and everything. So will other groups have members leaving?

Hello!! they sure are hahahhaha

omg we love<3 jfjfdj exo's legacy :')

So there currently Chanyeol, Sehun, Kai, Kyungsoo, Suho and Lay are still contracted with SM. Chen, Baekhyun, and Minseok are still in exo of the moment - they've left the company not the group and so unless there's official word after all the legal stuff that they've left the group - they are still in the group! the contracts will be them individually contracted as SM artists, not as members of EXO so they don't lose that when the contracts gone until SM declare it. Sehun... is unpredicatable so i can't say anything for sure šŸ˜ but he is basically sitting back atm with popcorn watching it go down so i imagine that whatever the outcome he will step up and try something himself hahah the others i truly don't know! Kai fucked off to the military right as the drama's happening so we won't get his news for a while šŸ˜ the contracts are kinda frozen/extended over military enlistment periods i've noticed so he won't be doing anything until it's over. The leaving members are very likely going to go get signed to other labels/ set up their own ! i can imagine they have a plan, and considering they're suing together at once i can imagine they have a plan together! it would be great for us fans to have them sign to the same company but you gotta remember this is their first free decision about their career they've prob ever gotten so they should go with what they want individually and find companies that will suit them and work well with them<3

oki so I think there's a lot that could happen if u compare it to other groups! they could definitely do a got7 where they are in different companies focusing on solo stuff but manage to do a full-member comeback by organising it themselves between all their companies (if only once or twice </3). Or you could look at snsd. snsd came back through SM but 3 (?) of the members aren't under SM anymore - it was just something arranged between all companies involved and i can imagine that the non-SM girls got well compensated šŸ˜ but yeah - something like that could happen if there's some relationship between the members and SM... which doesn't seem particularly likely considering the lawsuits but anyways it's a possibility hahaha!

about other SM groups! it will be affecting poor taeyong trying to promote his solo atm thru all this drama šŸ˜ and as you said about the stock prices - that does inhibit the other groups. However, if they win the lawsuit, one can only hope that would encourage better artist treatment and fairer payout around the whole company!! and if SM don't do it themselves, the other artists would have tonnes of info on how to beat SM in a lawsuit šŸ˜ so we can hope they use it well<3 but yeah - the icky thing about companies is that although they are all artists with similar contracts, the treatment and payout could be extremely different between all the groups :(( and within the same group (read: luhan and tao lol). and good old misogyny when it comes to rv<3 so each SM artist could have a different experience and some could have it much worse than others.

okay so i just read some articles and it's so funny djfgjjdfgj what i'm understanding is.. cbx were like 'yo can u provide us with the info on how we've been paid for 12-13 years' and sm are like 'no. i don't want to.' and sm are CONVINCED that some other evil company leaders have been talking to exo and getting them to sign with them and illegally go against their SM contracts. which very much could be true but it's not illegal to have discussions with other employers jgjdfg and SM are still like 'we have your best interests at heart, not those evil outsiders!'. ... they r so funny fkgkd. also their contracts were literally 12-13 years long... not the usual 7 recommended by the government.... and the contracts they r terminating were written in nov/dec 2022 and were extending them another 5/6 years...and SM's current defence is "no ur lawyer doesn't know the law properly we aren't in the wrong".. so .... unless some miracle is pulled I don't see SM coming out of this well since they're not rly cooperating at all.

but yeah.. i don't see a swarm of artists leaving SM happening, mostly because a lot of them won't have the luxury as EXO have to do that. And especially if they're also stuck in 13 year contracts... which is ridiculous. so yeah :(( but we can hope they get better treament!! and soz to any superm fans if there are any of you šŸ˜ superm is a done thing i'm afraid</3 lucas flopped, baekhyun's suing and then it'd just be taemin in an Nct unit KJFGKFJGK. so yeah no more superm. but nct will prob truck on - they are SM's priority there's no denying it so they'll prob be fine. tho they are tragically suffering with the loss of sungtaro so like... </3 rip to them but infinite Nct flopped to me the second sungtaro left, like no one else matters</3

itā€™s not surprising to me that sm refused to be transparent abt cbxā€™s earnings bc cbx was smā€™s atm for a good long time at one point. those three made sm MONEY money and are completely correct in suing the company for every penny theyā€™re owed.

i also love and expected the classic sm move of redirection in the blame game. like bro the statement said they requested clarification on their earnings seven times. seven.

this shouldnā€™t be a shock, sm shouldnā€™t be scrambling and releasing half assed pressers. it was seven times. i wouldā€™ve quit after the first one went unanswered, cbx gave them ample notice.
