In this post, I specifically address how I studied for Calculus III, but the methods I discuss can be used for other math or math-heavy classes (e.g., physics) as well. While intended for college math, ambitious high schoolers might also appreciate this advice. I’ve taken 5 college-level math classes so far (Statistics, Calculus I-III, Differential Equations), so I’d like to think I’ve got the hang of this because I put a lot of effort into improving my techniques, allowing me to ace Calculus III this summer!

Saw this post about straight dudes feeling emasculated at the thought of taking their wife’s last name, and it gave me a sudden craving for fantasy media where some dude is called Leopold THE DESTROYER or some shit and there are all these rumors going around about how he got his moniker, all these made up stories about how he must have razed a village to the ground or slayed 12 dragons or some shit and it turns out he just took his wife’s last name.
“What was your name before?”
“Meadowalker.”
“…”
“I miss it sometimes y’know, but eh,” he smiles wistfully as he looks over to where his wife is sharpening her sword. “What can you do when you marry for love.”
Scooped
And I’m scooped. My project was published in another organism yesterday. Fuck me.
Just want to add that I've been working really hard to finish some experiments and we are beginning to write our manuscript now. Sometimes these things work out.

The thing about academia is that you can have a 12 hour day and it still doesn’t feel good enough
The culture of overworking in academia is so overwhelming and destructive. I hope you take an opportunity to rest and recharge. I know it doesn’t feel like enough–and that it never, ever feels like enough–but it is. You deserve to rest.
glamorize going to bed early, like, 8pm early
instead of making high stress levels a competition, brag about feeling whole and at peace.
make it cool as hell to take 2pm naps and go on mindful walks by yourself.
talk about mental health and normalize visits to counselors or support systems
teach kids that being different is beautiful and that it’s healthy to love what makes us who we are.
make #selflove and #selfcare the most common hashtags
This is so important
People have been asking me how long I’m going to be in this PhD program for and I’ve been saying “four years with good behavior”

Still true and I've lost ten pounds because of it!
It appears to be spring break for everyone else.

Some days are better
I always complain so today I'd like to say something positive. I got through the wash day of ChIP and got a western to primary antibody before 1pm! That's pretty awesome. So, some days are still exciting
