***The Rise of Skywalker Spoilers***

I can't even begin to describe how much I was blindsided by this movie. I feel used and exhausted. Yet, here is the main thing that makes me fight a mini depression.

Rey's ending.

(Rey doesn't tell them anything.)

The only one who knows her is her dryad, her other half in the Force: Ben Solo / Kylo Ren.

And just when she finds happiness with him, he dies.

Does it make it better that he dies for her? Saving her life? Sacrificing himself?

Rey ends up all alone on a desert planet, all those who supported her and understood her, especially Ben Solo, gone forever.

She is right where she started:

Except now she knows what it feels like to be understood, loved, cherished. Imagine this hole. This pain.

Ben Solo's death is painful. But what makes me rage that he died for literally nothing.

Remember when our favorite space couple first met in TFA and Ben announced that he can take everything from Rey if she resists and then he ended up giving her his everything in her most vulnerable moment in TROS.

How I Think TROS Should Have Ended

-Ben dies‬

‪-Leia revives him with her life force (like Ben did with Rey in the movie) & fades away‬

‪-Ben wakes up & Reylo kiss‬ 

‪-They agree to meet somewhere since he can’t go to the Resistance ; we don’t hear that conversation‬

‪-Rey flies back to the Resistance & the celebration scene is the same

-Rey eventually flies to Tatooine‬

‪-Rey & Ben are reunited‬

‪-They bury Leia’s lightsaber‬

‪-Rey still made her own & Ben takes the legacy saber‬ (Anakin & Luke’s saber)

‪-The lady in the desert asks Rey her name‬

‪-Rey becomes Rey Solo bc she knows Ben better than any of the Skywalkers & has more of a relationship with him, Han & Leia who didn’t have the Skywalker name (ik Leia is a Skywalker but her last name is Organa) (& Rey loves Ben ofc)

‪-Ben & Rey watch the binary sunset together ‬

‪-They end up not being the last Skywalker & Jedi 

I DONT THINK I CAN EVER GET OVER THIS

AND CAN YALL BELIEVE BEN SMILED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER AND THATS BECAUSE OF REY THE LOVE THEY HAVE FOR EACH OTHER I JUST-

Ah heck I think I have a new otp

I wrote twitter meta about the one good thing about this film (Adam Driver’s acting, the PURE character work he did with zero dialogue) because I finally figured out what he was talking about when he said he was using “mask work” with Kylo Ren. He wasn’t playing through a mask only when he wore the helmet, he was acting as if his very FACE was a stoic blank mask he was looking through. That’s why Kylo Ren as a character has such a specific feeling to him, and why the audience instantly responded to Ben Solo, who could show his emotions.

This character was always 100% a young boy hiding behind a mask that hid and disallowed every emotion except for his anger, the only emotion that men are allowed to feel. This character is an exploration of how toxic masculinity harms men. And what miracles can happen for men internally when they embrace emotionality and forgive themselves and use their energy to do good. (I’m crying about him again.)
