What The Hell Is Going On

@nonexsistentnormaloof

This is where I upload art stuff I don’t wanna put on my main blog.

Toby Fox puts so much love into the process of making his games, I don't remember the full story but I get a little emotional when I think about how Toby asked someone to design a shopkeeper for the cyber world, and they gave him three designs to choose from but he loved them all so much that he put all three in the game. But thats not all because you KNOW he didn't intend for the shopkeeper to be that important, just a funny little guy like Seam who hangs out in the shop, but Toby was like "I love these guys so much they're gonna follow you through the beginning of the game they're gonna have gags they're gonna have a cool battle with a cool theme made in collaboration with a cool person they're gonna pop up through the whole game." I think he loves his game as much as we do.

These funky lil guys are made with 100% organic love.

it feels strange to me now that undertale garnered such a reputation for being edgy due to fan interpretations when the game itself is just SO earnest and sentimental that it hurts. like, it's a game about connection and friendship and love and it's so forward with that message that it gets silly with it, but that's just because it really really wants you to care. it's the least cynical game i've ever seen, even on it's worst routes

i actually love this

Okay, but for this to be animated by one person is fucking AMAZING because we have indie animated projects started and shattered by full teams that don’t even have this much flow.

Youtube is weird because sometimes you find amazing art projects buried in it’s annuals that defy explanation due to their quality and the fact they never went viral.

i’ve been binging this and i’m on episode 24 and really i find the story pretty interesting and not really that difficult to follow??? my only concern is how all the human children except for like Charles inexplicably look like full-grown adults instead of like actual children

I’ve been a fan of No Evil for a little over a year, and I really can’t recommend it enough! Episodes 1-9 are mostly just animation tests and shorts to get an idea of the characters (though episode 2 and 7 are important to understand the backstory and episode 8 and 9 set up two major conflicts throughout the rest of the series).

There’s a lot of exposition in episode 10 which can be hard to follow on a first watch but is really rewarding when you go back to re-watch everything. Also, the animation is freakin gorgeous now and then, just

SHAPESHIFTING

MAGIC

BEAUTIFUL CHARACTERS

FULLY ANIMATED ASL

PERFECT REACTION GIFS

Also they arrange and record a lot of the music in the show all on their own which is frankly amazing https://youtu.be/L6SZgUVTb4Q

No Evil is so good, you really get lost in the magic of the world and are soon invested in the characters. The designs are so cool and the songs are choice.

If you want help getting into the show on YouTube (because the first few episodes are kinda vague and arent explained till later) you can read the comic that takes places before the show

I highly recommend this one, these people put together an amazing story animating at home and recording in their closets and it deserves as much love in response as was put into its creation

As the staff post about ad-free tumblr continues to get thousands of notes telling staff to fuck off in the tags, I wanna remind you that this website's days are numbered. Tumblr is still unprofitable and by some modern-day miracle none of its acquiring companies pulled the plug on this money pit. But it will happen if it continues its trajectory.

Whether you like it or not, Tumblr needs to make money off you somehow in order to stay up. It either serves ads or asks for money to use it. This has been a paradigm on the web longer than many of you have been alive. It's Tumblr's job to make money right now because it's well past its grace period of being a black hole for cash. This has actually always been Tumblr's job, since it is a corporation, but that's capitalism for ya.

If you want Tumblr to be here for free and you want to continue to use it, you do yourself a disservice by opposing any changes Tumblr makes in order to pay for its costs. When this site finally goes belly-up then you're gonna be Tumblr-less until whatever startup takes its place and the cycle repeats itself.

If you think it should just ask for donations Wikipedia-style, remember that if and when that happens, there will be users repeating the same tired bullshit about giving Tumblr any money.

just a reminder in case you missed it directly from the current CEO of Tumblr:

I am not speaking up in defense of post plus, which was rolled out in a way that gave us a new illustration of "disingenuous," but Tumblr needs to make money to survive.

If tumblr does not make enough money to pay its bills and make a bit of money for its parent company, tumblr will cease operations. No profit=no tumblr. The current situation is not sustainable for them. Whatever you or I or anyone may think about capitalism, that’s the cold hard reality. If you want tumblr to survive, they have to make money.

There are basically three ways for tumblr to make money:

1) Sponsored shit like post+ where you support a content creator and tumblr skims a bit off the top. Not inherently bad but they did a horrible and untrustworthy rollout of it, and also, while there is a great deal of content I would pay for, I don’t know that shitposts (the tumblr forte for non-fannish stuff) qualify.

2) Ads. Which then makes the ad companies the customer and the userbase the product being sold. Which means that the priority has to be keeping the ad companies happy, and fuck the users. Which means everything has to be sanitized and prettified. Which will do terrible things to this place.

3) Direct monetization. Users pay to use the site, or at least to use it ad-free. The user base is the customer, and it is the user base’s needs that are the priority to the company because if they anger the userbase, the userbase will stop paying them.

Of the three basic models, #3 is the best for the average user. By far. Because it means that they have a hell of a reason to listen to us.

Not everybody can afford $40/year, so it’s good that the “free with ads” bit is staying.

But if you can afford $40/year, think about it this way: how much time do you spend on tumblr in a week? In a month? In a year? Is $40/year a reasonable amount to spend on something you use that much? For me, the answer is yes.

Yeah an ad-free paid option really isn’t a big deal. If that makes money, then pleasing the users (including non-paying users) becomes top priority and they don’t necessarily have to keep scrubbing swathes of content to meet Google’s stricter and stricter demands, either.
