More Rey Kenobi clues with LF official art and the second blue saber? This is the 3rd time in Ep 9 marketing that LF have officially put Rey in Obi Wans Place. It's the 4th time they have put Obi Wans saber there too.

The hidden lightsaber and how Lucasfilm have successfully concealed the answer to Rey’s lineage.

Kylo ren saber art by the fantastic @gwendy85

The vision sequence in TFA is interesting to say the least, in particular the scene in the rain where Kylo Ren surrounded by what seems to be dead bodies. He seems to murder someone and then suddenly snaps his head round and walks towards Rey.

To say this scene is shrouded in mystery is an understatement. From day one we have had confusing accounts from the production about what is going on due to disconnected visuals and mixed messages about the following:

1.            The person stabbed by Kylo Ren.

2.            Bodies or rocks?

3.            Past or future?

What if I was to say that something which makes it all make sense was hidden from the final version of the film?

It wasn’t always hidden, folks. All you have to do is look at the trailer for  The Force Awakens to see it. And let me tell you this, by simply hiding this lightsaber from view, Lucasfilm did a fantastic job of throwing us all off of the scent.

It took me 8 months to realise the significance of this moment and the impact the removal of that saber has caused (mass confusion. Mission accomplished.)

If you piece together the clips from the trailer and the actual film, it flows seamlessly as what appears to be the following:

1.            Kylo Ren stabbing someone in the back

2.            Rey clambers up to witness something unfold

3.            Kylo Ren has a lightsaber in his left hand as well as his own in his right

4.            Kylo Ren waits for something to happen

5.            Kylo Ren gets a vision of Rey through the saber he’s holding

6.            Kylo Ren sees Rey masked and as a small girl?

Lets take a look at the sequence as a whole:

People, including me thought nothing of this lightsaber because it was hidden from TFA.

However, upon second inspection, I think that they haven’t removed it from the scene and his hands, They have just hidden the fine details by very cleverly using an establishing shot. Then they use a mid close up to hide his hands from frame.

After doing some digging and research, I feel that the that lightsaber tells you the possible time frame of the scene you are watching, it tells you who Kylo is killing and WHY. Whats more, it tells you exactly who Rey is.

But hey this is just my opinion, it could still be unimportant and just my head canon, but if you are interested in why I think this saber is the answer to lots of things, read on:

1.            Who does Kylo Ren stab?

According to the credits he stabs a Knight of Ren, this led many to believe that this was the future and Kylo Ren was saving Rey due to the way she falls. However, I think thats a visual misdirect and deliberate mistake of a credit because:

Pablo Hidalgo has shed some interesting light on this scene on several occasions.. He once called the man who was stabbed a “clan leader”. In another tweet he states that Kylo ren wiped out an entire village with the Knights of Ren in this scene:

To back this up is a recent image from the comics, confirming that those are bodies, not rocks.

Heres an incredibly interesting spoiler from www.spoiledmilk.com from way back in 2015. Keep in mind that this leaked before TFA was released:

“Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.”

So yes, it seems like the KOR and Ren just murdered an entire clan of people. For a lightsaber. But why?

In The Force Awakens, its implied that Kylo has been searching for Anakins saber “That lightsaber, it belongs to me!”

Back to the spoiled milk spoiler, this is from a version of the script/early scripts where Anakin’s lightsaber was called “the sword” a nice code name.In this script you find out that fell into the possesion of Ben Solo and it was then stolen by Maz. In other early versions of scripts Kylo is seen to be looting with the KOR/hunting relics/anakins saber. Rian Johnson recently said that Raiders of the Lost Arc is a big inspiration for episode 8. Is all this something which has been removed from The Force Awakens and we will now see it in Episode 8?

So a clan gets wiped out for Anakins saber…. and let me just ask you this, does the saber ren is holding look like Anakins lightsaber?, just look at it:

That does not look like Anakins saber to me. There are only really two famous sabers this could be:

Luke’s or Obi Wan Kenobi’s

Obi Wan’s left, Luke’s right

So, Is this an upcoming twist? In the past, Kylo gets a tip off that a clan is holding an Ancient blue saber? Upon killing them all he discovers that it is not Anakins saber, but in fact another legendary saber, one which shows him none other than Rey.

Does rey witnesses the moment Kylo Ren murders a clan for a saber and then does she witness the moment he a vision of her through the saber?

Lukes? I doubt it for 3 reasons.

1.            Luke has his green saber on Ach To, and according to new spoilers (where someone witnessed filming), the Knights of Ren arrive and get slaughtered by him with his green saber

2.            Lukes saber was never lost on screen like Anakins and Obi Wans. Why would a clan have Lukes saber? Also, why would Kylo Ren give it to Luke before Luke goes to Ach To after Kylo has fallen to the dark side?

3.            There is no clan on Ach To, no extras spotted on set, no people on the island as Rey walks to Luke, Luke being stranded on the island would suggest, no clan and no means for transportation. The place clearly looks like a ruin when Rey arrives. This location with the clan cant be Ach To.

New random saber? If so, why hide it? No one would be able to connect who it belonged to and it would not give away who she is if it was a random object.

That only really leaves one other strong possibility; Obi Wan Kenobi’s saber. His saber was lost on screen and recently Official Disney twitter asked us all to think about what happened to that saber, more specifically, what Darth Vader did with it:

In The Force Awakens it is implied that Ren has seen Rey before.  I think sees masked Rey through a lightsaber (just like she sees masked Kylo) and then he sees Rey as a girl getting abandoned on a sand planet (just like in the novel when rey saw a small boy (*cough* ben *cough*.) This would explain his massive over reaction to the mention of a girl on a sand planet (Jakku).

“WHAT GIRL!?”

Now, is Obi Wan’s saber about to make a comeback on screen? There’s one very telling thing about the way Pablo Hidalgo seems answers questions about upcoming things that may be coming into Canon. Recently, when asked about Thrawn (before he was brought into canon) he said:

Now just look at what he said when asked about Obi Wans saber:

I think may be seeing the complete version of the scene in the next film

Remember when this theory of mine seemed to be dead? Well we now know there is a second light saber in TROS which kylo has. It also appears that this light saber is what Rey was looking for on the Death Star. What she thought was on the Death Star is supposed to be the key to defeating Palpatine. ITS THE SABER Which kylo has! Imo. Remember LF recently saying "Kylo holds the key?" The KoR found it and it was in TFA teaser a long, long time ago. It was then hidden.

Mark my words: 24th May 2017

Lucasfilm and co are hiding a lightsaber twist in TLJ.

Remember everyone thought Finn was going to be the owner of Anakins saber because lucasfilm pushed that before TFA came out?

There is a saber which has been hidden by lucasfilm. One Kylo kills a clan for. One which an old spoiler (from before TFA) would have you believe is Anakins. But it’s not, you can clearly see in TFA trailer that it is not Anakins saber Kylo is holding. It’s not Luke’s either. Why would a clan end up with Luke’s saber? In the old spoilers the saber the clan is using against the KOR in the rain is blue, not green. The hilt is not Anakins either. There’s only one other saber that could be and it’s tied directly to rey. That’s why lucasfilm are guarding this with their life.

To the wonderful women who guessed where Star Wars was going

Hello everyone. I know I haven’t been posting much recently and I’d like to explain why.

I had been slaving for months and months, (since June 2016), gathering evidence and writing metas about how I believe kylo Ren found the Kenobi lightsaber and in turn had a vision of Rey when he picked it up. Just like she had a vision of him when she picked up his ancestral blade.

I found countless tweets, visual evidence, audio evidence, photos and themes all backing my theory up.

One day a big YouTube blogger took this theory and put it in his video.

He initially didn’t credit me and he read parts of my meta in his video and passed my theory off as his own. He only decided to credit me once many people complained about it (thanks to those who helped)

His video has generated over 1 million views and he has made god knows how much money off of my hard work. People in his comment section are praising him for discovering the “secret”.

Despite the minuscule and well hidden credit he eventually gave me, sadly the majority will not know where it originated from.

The same blogger is now making money off of the reylo community. Yes he decided to credit people this time but the sad truth is that male fans in his comment section are suddenly only now giving reylo credit. Only now taking it seriously and why? Because a man is talking about reylo.

I think one of the worst comments I saw was: “I never gave reylo credit but now that you have made a video it makes sense, your theories are the bomb!” So despite this blogger clearly stating that it was the women of tumblr who predicted this. It’s still ignored and not appreciated and the credit is still going to him?

We as a community we’re shunned, ridiculed and treated appallingly for a year and we slaved so hard on tumblr with millions of words and metas. We predicted so much accurately and now male youtubers are taking our hard work and jumping on the band wagon because now it’s “safe” to discuss reylo because it seems clear that’s the way the story is going. Now money can be made off of reylo on YouTube. But they are not using their own content. They are taking OUR content and making money. Capitalising of of our hard ass work for the past year or so.

ReyKenobiFiles and myself have a podcast and we are relaunching it. Let’s get female voices heard a little louder. If we have coincidentally mentioned your theories please message us and we’ll add you to the credits!

Mirroring, opposites and the personification of Yin Yang in the final fight between Kylo Ren and Rey.

Remember when Harrison ford recently said that the end fight was a masterful piece of storytelling? How you might ask?

Well, I believe the choreography in this fight between Ren and Rey is to show you that firstly, they are two halves of a whole and secondly, it shows you that they are the personification of Yin and Yang. This is all suggested through the use of choreography, theme and shot choices.

What is Yin/Yang?

imageimage

“A starting definition: Yin / Yang : Two halves that together complete wholeness. Yin and yang are also the starting point for change. When something is whole, by definition it is unchanging and complete. So when you split something into two halves – yin / yang, it upsets the equilibrium of wholeness. This starts both halves chasing after each other as they seek a new balance with each other.

The word Yin comes out to mean “shady side” and Yang “sunny side

Neither Yin nor Yang are absolute. Nothing is completely Yin or completely Yang. Each aspect contains the beginning point for the other aspect. For example: day becomes night and then night becomes day…Yin and Yang are interdependent upon each other so that the definition of one requires the definition for the other to be complete.

Yin Yang is not static. The nature of Yin and Yang flows and changes with time. A simple example is thinking about how the day gradually flows into night.

Sometimes changes in the relationship between Yin and Yang can be dramatic where one aspect can literally just transform into the other.”

NOW BACK TO REY AND REN (Funny how even their names role off the tongue like Yin and Yang does, hmm?)

So here’s the video of the fight.  I’ll ask you to watch it now and then I’ll ask you to watch it again once you have seen read my post.

Lets rewind to the moment where she uses the force to grab the lightsaber. This is where the mirroring starts:

Their facial expressions are the same when she is holding the saber. Rey holds the saber up, Ren holds his down. She then runs at him and this is where one of the most beautifully choreographed parts of the fight happens.

If you watch closely they exchange a few blows. Then Ren runs right just as Rey swipes. She misses and hits a tree, the tree then falls over

More blows, Rey runs right just as Ren swipes, he misses and hits a tree, the tree then falls over:

imageimage
imageimage

Not only does the same thing happen in those two shots, they are also exact duplicates of each other, they both run in the same direction, they both hit the tree in the same spot and they both make the tree fall over.

Then they bounce off off each other like they literally hit a mirror, he twirls, she twirls at the exact same time and they end up like a mirror image but opposite of one another. This whole sequence is like a dance:

imageimage

Then we cut away to Poe’s space battle..This is to give you a breather from the fight. But when we return, boy has the dynamic changed.

In the first part of the fight, we have seen them appear to be the two sides of a whole. “Two sides of a whole” is what Yin and Yang are.

When we rejoin them after Poe’s space battle, we start to see them demonstrate what Yin and Yang DO:

He chases her:

imageimage

There are a series of forceful blows from Kylo, She is retreating.  The choreography obviously makes this look like a chase when she runs up on the wall and leaps away from him, he’s literally trying to catch her feet but she squirms away.

He pursues her right to the edge of the cliff. He asks to be her teacher then something incredible happens. Something JJ WANTED you to take note of, but also wanted to keep an air of mystery about (for now).

Yin and Yang can absorb each others aspects/personality:

imageimage

Very important to note, this moment seems to happen when they are connected with the lightabers..it is showing a symbolic connection. What I think is happening here ties in with FrolickingFizzgig’s force bond theory.

Rey is absorbing his negativity and aggression which weakens him and strengthens her. The red lightsaber shaft is visible in this scene, the blue is not. Its like a vortex of negative emotion just seeping into her. She opens her eyes, they are red (reflecting the red lightsaber), his eyes reflect the blue lightsaber. This is Yin/Yang. The red in her eyes shows the part of darkness in her and the blue in his eyes shows the part of light in him. Yin and Yang both have a dot inside them which resembles a part of the other.

Now the shots used here ladies and gentlemen…the SHOTS..this is the only time in the movie where they use a choker shot. A choker shot is a rare occurrence in a film, it’s midway between an extreme close up and a close up..it hovers around the eyes, and cuts off part of either the bottom or the top of the face. You don’t just use these shots willy nilly, no sir. You use them when you want to convey a deep intimacy on screen with the characters, They are most commonly used when you want to create romance.

ROMEO AND JULIETT - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

In fact, the extreme closeness used between Rey and Ren here is closer than any choker shot I have seen in a romance movie. The fact that choker shots are used on both of them here indicates that the intimacy is between them both..they are sharing something here which the audience cant see but we can sense something is happening. The choice of shot is used to ensure that it etches into your mind and you wont forget it. This is the most important part of the entire film because they chose to use those types of shots here and nowhere else. You only use these shots when you want to highlight something about the character/s and make it very important.

She chases him.

imageimage

The tables turn and she chases him now, the endless cycle of yin yang, an endless dance which can only come to an end when you find balance. And then we have one of the most single symbolic moments in the entire film:

Finding a balance. Yin and Yang, only when joined can find a balance:

imageimage

This shot resembles the battle between light and dark and compromise. I for one felt that when Ren and Rey grabbed each other’s lightsabers, Ren SHOULD have been able to overpower her, he is physically stronger than her. If he’s trying to stop her from extinguishing his lightaber, well he’s not trying very hard.

It’s almost like he wants it to be gone forever, but cant let it go, this moment reflects his inner turmoil perfectly. They choose closeups here, they want you to see their emotions whilst this is happening. For a fleeting moment, it almost looks like they are on the same side here and she is helping him to extinguish the darkness in him, and he is LETTING her..like a desperate struggle to save his soul..(something which will be played out later in the trilogy, I believe)

This doesn’t look like the face of a man who wants the dark side to win:

imageimage

Then she she slashes his face. This does not stop him, he still tries to get up and look at her, he wants to get to her at all costs, he is pulled towards her. If she could kill him here..what would it do? It would extinguish the evil and good would triumph,

But fate has another plan the ground breaks them apart. Splits them up just like Yin and Yang. The world does not want the darkness to be fully extinguished or the light to be fully extinguished…a BALANCE must be found..an area of gray. These two are not meant to kill each other…they are meant to find a balance:

imageimage
imageimage

The expressions on their faces as the ground breaks do not reflect anger or hatred..its a mutual expression of care and concern, it is suggesting the balance which is needed between them:

imageimage

Things are split in two quite a few times during this fight

The trees, the ground and Ren’s face which seems to look a bit like the shape of Yin and Yang, there is a distinctive curve on the scar.

So what do I think this scene suggests as a whole? Well the writers have said you should know by the end of the movie, where things are going to go. I think this end scene with them suggests  a fight for redemption and then a mutual ground being found between light and dark..An area of gray. Please see below the poem from the novel of the The Force Awakens:

The writers have also called this trilogy a Space Bear and have used the image of panda. Guess what a panda represents in Chinese culture because of its unique black and white coat? That’s right..Yin and Yang.

In light of the last Jedi trailer and Balance and all that...I'm reposting my first ever meta

“The theory actually began originally as a fanfiction. But as the reylo community grew, they started to realize that it may be more than just a fanfiction afterall.”

This is not what fucking happened. This is insulting. We spent hours writing metas, drawing conclusions, analyzing that film. Many of us wrote dissertation-length pieces breaking down the subtext of the story, sourcing and evidencing our theories and articulating why we believed that was the route the story was going. Yes, it spawned fanfiction, and there is nothing wrong with fanfiction, but this is not what happened. Especially when in this context, “fanfiction” and “shipping” have been terms used to deride and insult so many of us for the last 16 months.

We did not gamble. We did not get lucky. We did not have chance on our side.

We used our brains, analyzed what we saw in front of us and articulated it into enough convincing words that people started feeling comfortable writing fanfiction and making art and shipping the ship when they had felt uncertain before.

This isn’t about whether or not reylo will be canon. This is about theories and speculation being regarded as “fanfiction” until a man gives voice to it. This is about how that video is going to be taken 10x more seriously (and probably viewed a lot more) than any of the metas and theories you all slaved over for the last year and a half, and how they’re all going to be swept under the rug along with all of the insults we’ve endured for publishing these opinions if reylo does become canon.

So no, I’m not thankful for this little pat on the back (or the lazy sourcing he included) because it’s actually a slap in the face. This was bound to happen, but it honestly stings a lot more than I thought it would and I’m seeing red.

Yep!

Pablo is not saying there was never anything in his hand. He once implied that there was something (a saber) there but of course it’s conveniently ignored and forgotten in light of his new tweets where he says it’s nothing or it's kylos glove lol. You can’t see it in The Force Awakens which is true but there’s also no clear shot of his hand at all in TFA, you are not supposed to see the saber and Pablo was never meant to suggest it was a saber, hence his obvious backtracking

The close-up shot

“No type of shot gets the audience more emotionally involved than the close-up.”

“You can hold the audience’s attention by cutting to close-ups so that they can see more detail and get involved with the characters facial expressions and emotions. A lot of times close shots are used to distinguish the main characters in a story. Major characters are often given a close shot as a way of indicating their importance. By using close shots the viewer is drawn into the subject’s “Private Space” and can share their emotions and feelings.

imageimage

The most compelling thing about Drivers performance is how unabashedly his character is taken with Rey. I mean, he is powerful enough he has nothing to hide or to prove. He just wants to be near her.

First one is a choker shot, most commonly used in romance films

Notice the reveal of the lightsaber is opposite: when Obi-Wan opens the box the box is to the left of the screen and for Rey it’s to the right of the screen. They both pull it out with their right hand. They both hand it to Luke with their left hand!

Great post!

Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise shes a kenobi. It’s a no brainer lol
