Hello neurodivergent people. I was wondering if I'm just weird or it is common to not being able to learn certain motoric skills at the same time as my peers and learned them MUCH later

#hi! neurodivergent OT here!#I couldn’t do a few of these until very late just for my own experience (especially tie shoes and ride bike)#(and I still can’t tie shoes the normal way which is a problem for my current job but I digress)#(handwriting was another one for me)#motor skills are a significant area of impact in lots of things which fall under the umbrella of neurodivergence!!#I work with so many kids right now on overcoming motor delays to develop functional skills (tying shoes/riding bike/handwriting/crawling#/climbing/jumping with two feet together/etc)#motor planning/coordination and bilateral coordination and general gross/fine motor development are huge areas that are often overlooked#anyways all this to say motor delays are actually considered to be a significant part of many diagnoses especially with autism#ALSO one of the most overlooked motor elements is ocular motor skills. so there’s also that to consider since these are mostly gross/fine#OH and oral motor. if you were a messy eater as a kid/are currently there’s things to be considered both on a sensory and motor level#also disclaimer I am still an OTS I’m in fieldwork so I’m nearly done and I am treating clients but the disclaimer is important#also adding that there are motor-specific diagnoses to consider here too (dyspraxia/DCD/etc)
