So, in the most recent issue (#2) of the X-Men '97 prequel comic, Wolverine overhears Jean tell Scott she's pregnant. He gets upset and leaves, followed by a concerned Storm.

But, then:

Storm and Wolverine fight for a while, but things start going wrong. Until.....

The issue ends there. So, we should properly see our favorite shapeshifter next Wednesday.

I honestly cannot believe how far T(W)ERF rhetoric has spread on this site. They used to be the ONLY ones I saw openly mocking the concept of identifying as queer, the ONLY ones I saw referring to people as ‘kweer’ in a mocking way.

You all are so 100% certain you know how to identify radfem and T(W)ERF rhetoric and can’t possibly fall victim to it but guess what.

They are nowhere near above pulling this shit. And you all are falling for it.

And if you think that screenshot is an isolated incident, think again!

There are countless radfem and T(W)ERF blogs that I’ve blocked that said ‘secret radfem sideblog’ in the description.

Like, it’s great that we’ve made being a T(W)ERF so unaccepted on this site that they can only be open about the most toxic of their views in secret side blogs rather than on their main, but it’s time to accept that they’re taking advantage of that in a really fucking insidious way.

Just a tip on how to recognize these blogs. If you follow someone and you start getting suggested t*rf blogs that’s a good sign the person has sideblog for that stuff. There was some cowboy blog I followed a while ago and I used to get follow suggestions saying “this blog is similar to cowboy whatever” and it was a ton of t*rf shit and low and behold they ended up outing themselves

This is why we learn about what actual TERF ideology is. Saying “trans women are women” and “TERFS not allowed” and putting “TERF destroyer” or whatever in your bio is not enough. Learn how TERFs actually work, and what they believe, and where it stems from, and how they express diluted versions in order to warm up non-TERFs to their ideas.

Do the fucking work. Unfollow/block people who express TERF ideas even if they don’t label themselves as TERFs, challenge those ideas in your community, and you won’t have to worry about secret TERF blogs anymore.

Just in case you happen to be unaware, some of the “radfem lite” they post to warm you up to their rhetoric, just off the top of my head:

  • Ace/aro exclusionism
  • Bi exclusionism or claims that bi people are “less queer” bc of “straight passive privilege”
  • Saying you have to be dysphoric to identify as trans
  • Invalidating nonbinary people
  • Calling queer a slur regardless of context, saying people can’t identify as queer, and saying that it can’t be reclaimed
  • “Mogai hell”, “kweer”, or otherwise mocking less common labels and claiming they are “just cishets who want to feel special”
  • Excluding sex workers from feminist discussions or claiming that sex work is inherently evil
  • Basically anyone who thinks they can determine what other people identify as

The following are some red flags I’ve seen:

  • Men are evil
  • Women are pure
  • Black and white framing
  • Talking about separating the communities
  • Only this group can use these words
  • Lesbians are better than bi women
  • Straight women deserve/should not be surprised if they get abused
  • Panphobia
  • Think of the children
  • Anti kink
  • Cringe culture/who let these weirdos in/calling people freaks

And also, just so we’re clear, if YOU, the person reading this, are looking at that list and thinking “what’s so bad about ___? That’s not terfy that’s just feminism!” then congratulations, you are dipping your foot in the well, and you have some shit to unlearn before you jump in whole hog.

Learn how to fucking recognize radfem and terf rhetoric even when it’s supposedly welcoming trans women, and do your part to oust them from the queer community.

Really important and I think I missed it on the list:

  • The idea that lesbian relationships are inherently more pure and more holy than any other kind
  • Lesbians are Pure and not Ickily Obsessed with Sex
  • Like really a very … sexless… view of lesbianism entirely. This lesbianism is entirely G-rated

This doesn’t mean “ace lesbians are TERFs.” It means that if someone’s idea of lesbianism excludes kinky lesbians or the idea that a lesbian can be abusive in a relationship or… doesn’t encompass the idea that women can sometimes be fucking horndogs? It’s leaning on some very radfem ideas about women and their sexuality, ideas that infantilize women and flatten their lives down to “innocent cherubs.”

And it’s fucking weird.

Here's a piece of fanart for Kotic (@kotic-kryptid here on tumblr) for her Star Wars fanfiction "Flesh & Steel" (https://archiveofourown.org/works/33823276/chapters/84086740). It's a short scene from chapter 16. Anyway, it wouldn't be my art if I didn't create some sort of over-the-top, kitschy version, so there's that too.

Guys LISTEN. If this isn’t everything??? I made the most unholy screech. bury me with this art. LOOK AT KHARA’S BICEP. gonna vibrate outta my seat LOOK AT IT

This shot from "The Shredder Strikes - Part 2" is making me giggle like an idiot.

Why do they look like this? They're just waiting for the Shredder to show up, but they look like they're posing for a music album cover or something.

People on Twitter got really mad when someone said that USSR, and I quote, "nailed the evil Empire aesthetic".

Every single shenanigan the USA did in between 1917 and 1991 the USSR did as well and sometimes was even worse at it.

The USSR collapsed, in no small part, because it shenaniganed too close to the sun and got hooked on oil and starting wars on foreign soil with no clear goal.

The legacy of USSR is one of poverty, despair, war, censorship and really expensive sausages. And if you try to "but America bad" me about it, I WILL grow even more weary of the willful ignorance of the Westerner intellectuals.

At no point in history were Soviet citizens living better lives than American citizens.

"But this one Soviet newspaper" they all lied.

People who say anyone who dislikes communism must've swallowed US propaganda...sure love to uncritically and unironically repeat USSR propaganda.

Bear in mind that this is a technique that anyone can use on anyone about anything.

For example, you probably want to be suspicious when megacorporations start rebranding themselves as "diverse" and "sustainable".

in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.

for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.

so how can you help?

  1. boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.
  2. learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.
  3. get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.
  4. donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.

and finally…

cannot stress enough that donating to the internet archive to help them appeal this without going broke is the most important thing you can do right now. my day job revolves around fulfilling digital article and book scan requests at an academic library and a huge part of that is borrowing from other libraries that do controlled digital lending (incl. the internet archive!). copyright law is already hugely restrictive on what we can and can't lend, and we absolutely don't have the option to pirate anything for our patrons due to being a large academic institution. it's difficult to overstate just how bad this ruling could end up being for libraries that have digital lending programs, esp ones that rely on CDR for old/archival/hard-to-find texts.

I'm incredibly fucking disappointed at the bootlickers in the comments claiming that the IA steals from small creators. Eliminating a valuable research, academic and cultural resource because you've bought into the fiction that "potential sales" are lost sales is exactly what these big corporations want. You aren't saving small creators by swatting down a non-profit, you're allowing ginormous publishing monopolies to consolidate even further while they smile a snake's smile over independent creators.

The Internet Archive is absolutely vital for my work and research. Without it, a good chunk of Welsh LGBTQ+ history would be inaccessible. The Welsh books hosted on IA are indexed and searchable, meaning any Welsh LGBTQ+ terminology can be searched for. Otherwise, me sitting down to read every. single. Welsh book ever published *just in case* it contains one of the terms in my data is an impossible task (Welsh books have been published since 1546) . In fact, this is something I refer to in my methodology for this very reason.

I'm also broke as hell rn but when I get the chance I'm gonna donate. Without IA, you can kiss goodbye to a *massive* chunk of academia. My lecturers use IA. So not just like, undergrads and PhD students, but seasoned academics will lose access to a major resource if IA stopped existing.

The argument of "potential sales lost" also makes no sense from an author's perspective. Published authors are usually paid an advance before publication. After that point, they would have to sell an obscene amount of books to qualify for extra pay from those sales, so many authors are unbothered by someone reading their book for free. Libraries allow people to read books for free and IA is essentially one giant library. It even has a feature where if you're reading a book and "check it out" for an hour, no-one else can read the book your reading until the time runs out. Just like a normal library. Potential sales lost to the company is just like when companies claim to have lost millions at a start of the year when they haven't actually lost any money at all. They just didn't earn as much money as they were predicting.

IA provides a vital service and we should be fighting to ensure it isn't lost.

Seconding all of the above -- Since the IA lost its case, I've noticed a number of books have rapidly become inaccessible for me. The negative impact this has had on my work can't be understated, as I've been left without a crucial resource for my research. I. don't believe there's a single article I've written that hasn't been impacted by this, with me often having to scrambling to get access to sources that are rare and/or our of print. I have the advantage of a well-stocked uni library that is good at ILLs, but this is a taste of what's going to come if this isn't resolved in the Archive's favor.

Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.

Fics are not social media posts. There’s no “stalking” someone’s “old posts”. They’re meant to be found and enjoyed years down the line. No need to be nervous.

AO3 is a library. Except in this library you can tell the writer how much you loved their story. They love when you do that. Please do that, no matter how old that fine story is…

a summary of the consequences of my life because I read percy jackson

1. I steal my older brother’s PJO books, read them, and download Pinterest on my Kindle to get my first taste of fandom

2. I spend a lot of time online, secretly, and am exposed–for the first time–to the fact that it’s weird that I share a room and bed with my dad and am not allowed anywhere else

3. My dad brings me to a corn field and tells me obama is the anti-christ who’s been sent by god to end the world, as foretold by the bible. I believe this and cry when he’s elected because i don’t want to die

4. I begin googling and discover that my situation is not great. I begin a careful attempt to ~distance~ myself from my father by sleeping anywhere else through any means possible. Eventually, I’m allowed to sleep in my own room

5. Now that I’ve been exposed to the real world and the fact that I’ve been groomed, I’m not ~obedient~ anymore and my dad Dips(™) to find a new kid. We lose our house and have to move to government housing in a new city

6. Eventually my parents divorce because of this. My dad moves to a horse ranch. I visit him on the horse ranch, think it’s cool, and invite my friends over for a sleepover. I have my first gay kiss with a girl in a tent. The next day my father tries to ~kill~ me on the horse ranch(™) with a golf cart

7.My dad disappears from the face of the earth. He forgets his phone is connected to the family iMac. We know all about the crimes he is committing. He fakes a heart attack in a Wal-Mart at some point, idk

8. The FBI is onto his life of crime. He flees to Romania to escape them and lives with a millionaire Romanian woman. She’s suspicious of him after a while. She hires a private investigator and unearths his life of lies and crime. He flees to Alaska. He gets a roommate in Alaska. The roommate goes to federal prison. We never hear from my father again. He is, perhaps, dead.

9. It’s revealed to us that my grandmother is also involved. She’s been smuggling drugs from the hospital. She also goes to federal prison. Also apparently my older brother and I aren’t related. This was another scam from my father

Understandable response

Fandom Problem #4813:

"SA is a fate worse then death!!" "You can never truly heal from SA" etc themes in fanfic/art, comments made by fans on fanworks that touch on SA is the worst.

Because like, should I just kill myself then? Never mind the fact that I have come to a point of healing that I virtually don't even think about what happen, and live a pretty normal and happy life now. If death is a fate worse then being SA, then I shouldn't be happy that they didn't kill me, right?

Hot take, but there is nothing worse then death, SA you can heal from, but once you're dead there's no coming back. Like, I'm not happy of being SA, I would have rather never been SA, but I would also rather be SA again before being murdered because I can heal from SA, I have friends and family that I don't want to have to grieve me. Sure, in the moment and after it happened before I healed I was really suicidal and thought death would have been better, but now that I've healed I know better

This narrative in fanfics, fanart, etc that pushes the idea SA is worse then death, that you can't ever heal from it, etc, is so damaging to victims. Like, stfu, stop telling every survivors it would have been better for them to die basically goddamn!!
