Anime Expo Lite 2021 - ANIME NEWS NETWORK - Notes!

Credit: Anonymous Author | @TAVmedia

START: 4:30 PM END: 5:15 PM (PDT) | 3 July 2021 | CHANNEL: 2
Panel Description: It’s been a hell of a year; meet the people behind Anime News Network, find out what it takes to operate the world’s largest anime and manga news website, what we’ve changed over the past year, what we’re working on now and what excites us in the world of anime today.

Some site news:

1. There is a new mascot! Meet Annika: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/azure/2021-06-14/.173940

image

She’s freaking adorible! The comic/character was created by Robin Sevakis (@JadedSketch on Twitter)

2. ANN updates daily with more content! And you can read about updates and site news here: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/site-news/

Interested in pitching to ANN (accepted pitches and published articles will be paid!)? https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/staff-openings

What is the News Room? Interviews and such where ANN editors and contributors get to go to the studios, creators, publishers, etc. and talk to those that make anime and manga directly! They get to find out what’s new, what’s happening, and what’s not before sharing it with us, the audience!

It’s a small company, but an awesome one!

Question we asked at Q&A: What if we’d like to edit for ANN rather than write? Does one start as a writer for ANN and then advance into an editor role, or is this the kind of position that one must look out for under the job openings page? No one just edits–your need to be able to write (as a journalist) and edit if you want to be an editor. There is always a higher demand for another journalist over a sole copy editor because content is king!

Funimation’s Industry Panel for Comic Con @ Home (2021) aired today and we thought it best to share. While they have not yet seen their promised blog post on the panel, we’re sure it will be up soon. One thing to note is that the panel is different from Anime Expo’s panel–so if you watched the one at AX 2021 you may still want to check out the video or look at their blog post when it’s published. We’ll link the blog post by Funimation in an edit of this reblog when  we see it go up. :-D

Comic-Con@Home 2021 - Comics Arts Conference Session #1: Comic Art in Museums: 90 Years of Progress - Recommended Watch

Credit: Anonymous | @TAVmedia

About the Event:

Panel: Comics Arts Conference Session #1: Comic Art in Museums: 90 Years of Progress | Comic-Con@Home 2021
Panel Description: Comic art is gaining traction in the world of museums as audiences and curators recognize its aesthetic and cultural value, but today’s high-profile exhibits build on a rich history that goes back 90 years. Please join the contributors to the first book focused on this topic, Comic Art in Museums (University Press of Mississippi). Moderator Rob Salkowitz (Forbes), book editor Kim Munson, Charles Hatfield (California State University Northridge), Diana Green (Minneapolis College of Art and Design), Denis Kitchen (Kitchen Sink Press), Damian Duffy (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), and Eric Boime (San Diego State University) look back at influential comic art exhibits including Misfit Lit, R. Crumb’s The Book of Genesis, Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of Jack Kirby, Masters of American Comics, and more.

Why Watch?

While this one might now be for everyone, it is a great exploration into comic art and its cultural significance. Comics, rather–visual storytelling–have been around for a long time. Much longer than the word “comic,” and have played various roles in our culture–from education, to entertainment, to political propaganda, to expressionism, and more. The curation of comics found rising up in museums and across academia is a showcase of their developed uses beyond entertainment. So we recommend checking this video out if you find the time.
