some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

REBLOG TO SAVE A WRITER'S LIFE

if i had a nickel for every time i formed a deep attachment to a leigh bardugo ship that hadn't even kissed yet, i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Avatar

See I have no issues with people shipping whatever the fuck they want but this has gone too far.

AND THIS IS ONE OF THE WRITERS OF “SHADOW AND BONE”

“sometimes you need some skin on skin”

NO.

Not only is this caption extremely disrespectful and erasing Inej's trauma but by extension also being ableist and making fun of Kaz's touch aversion. Not to mention, ignoring Inej's struggles with touch.

And ofcourse, entirely erasing the fact that Tolya is canonically aroace.

At this point, I feel like only Amita Suman cares or even addresses Inej's trauma.

The fact that nothing about Inej's trauma was ever addressed in this entire season, they made Tante Heleen's death seem like it meant nothing to Inej. And now, even making such disgusting jokes..🙂

I have seen too many posts hating on the second season and honestly guys

yeah it was different from the books

but we KNEW THAT GOING IN

Leigh bardugo literally told us to think of it like a high-budget fanfiction

and if the author of the books is okay with it! we should be too!!

let's look at the good parts!

  • the actors are phenomenal!
  • they changed the storyline enough that I WAS QUESTIONING WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN NEXT which is SUPER COOL since I already read the books it was like getting to read them for the first time ALL OVER AGAIN
  • the kanej scenes... point blank. they were so beautifully done and the scene in the church in episode 8 was WORD FOR WORD
  • honestly though I was disappointed originally that wesper wasn't a slow burn...it was SUPER CUTE they had great chemistry and I was happy with it!!
  • let's not forget the change in the darklings ending!! it was so heartbreaking!! I was over here hoping she WOULDN'T kill the man!!
  • the add-in with the sword!?!?! extraordinary!! and we got to see all those cool hallucinations AND jesper learn to love his blessing (I know some people thought it was too fast and I get that but...they were pretty sure they weren't gonna get a 3rd season)

I could add SO MUCH MORE like honestly feel free to repost this with other moments because I honestly thought the show was AMAZING

it was not the book. point blank.

if you want the original storyline...it still exists in the book. so separate the two. think of it as it's own thing and you'll see how incredible this season truly was.

The show makers made it clear that it won't be a 1:1 adaptation, its going to be diverted and I am absolutely okay with it because

1. They stayed true to the characters and they have respected every aspect of their backstories and personalities

2. Their dynamic is book accurate, the action, their brutality everything is in character, I don't see any problem with it.

3. Even tho they brought the character arc early on, it gives viewers a head start to understand every crow in depth, they took their time with the crows and their stories I am actually satisfied with it.

Overall the writers did a good job with handling the character arcs in my opinion.

going into the s&b tag to see people whining about how they didn’t stick exactly to the books is a trip. the entire foundational concept of the show was blending the grishaverse stories into a unique format for television. with leigh bardugo’s blessing and active participation. like i’m sorry YOU had a bad time but *i* got to watch all of my absolute favorite trainwreck murder babies get to hang out on screen together and blow shit up and make snarky comments and have mushy emotional moments with one another in a glorified big budget fanfic. had a blast, mama was fed, would do it again and absolutely will rewatch

I’ve seen people be disappointed about a few crows scenes being taken from CK and put into the show too early and I was a little taken aback at first when I watched them but honestly I think that they could really work in later seasons.

1. Kaz taking down Pekka

Honestly LOVED this scene in the book and when I was happening in the show I was like “NO! What’s happening this is way too early!” Then I sat back and thought about it.

Kaz and the crows are still kinda new to the game. They still fumble their heists sometimes. Kaz was super confident and so focused on his revenge towards Pekka, he went at him and was like yeah I finally got him. He takes down Pekka’s empire and made Pekka’s followers kinda lose some respect for him in the process (the side eyes they were giving each other) and sent Pekka to prison.

I think where they will go with this is Pekka ends up in prison PISSED. This little “barrel rat” just took everything from him. He gains more power and respect in prison (which we’ve already seen) then ends up breaking out, possibly in all the chaos that ensues when they break Matthias out. Then he really starts gunning for Kaz. In the book the conflict between them was a personal vendetta for Kaz. This way it will up the stakes as they’re both coming for each other. Maybe Pekka will hear about Juda Parem and try sabotaging the crows during their heist, then there’s still the fight between him and Kaz at the Ice Court only bigger now that it’s personal for both of them. Then when they get back to Ketterdam, Van Eck and him team up to take the crows down and now Pekka gets Van Eck’s plot line of kidnapping Inej, which brings me to the next scene.

(Also before I move on, that would mean that once Kaz actually takes down Pekka for real, Inej would be there for that scene since she wasn’t there for this one)

2. Kaz bandaging Inej

I haven’t seen people talk about this scene as much but for me I definitely thought it happened too early and wasn’t really ‘earned’ but basically what I think will happen is we’ll get this scene again.

So now Pekka takes Inej the same way that Kaz said that he took Pekka’s son. Again the stakes are upped. Kaz knows it’s on a personal level, has no idea if Pekka is bluffing or not. We get the whole Komide Brute scene actually play out (which was hinted at this season) and they end up getting Inej back but she’s injured. And now we get this same scene again except it’s after Inej’s whole “I will have you without armor speech” and this time when this scene plays out Kaz takes his gloves off to take away his armor.

3. Jesper and Wylan’s relationship

Not a specific scene but I just really loved their relationship. Yeah it’s different from the books but I liked how they were just happy and in a relationship together. I really liked the backstory of them having a one night stand beforehand because I feel like the fandom infantilizes Wylan a lot of the times and the show is like, no. This a grown man who has one night stands, is confident in his sexuality, and blows shit up.

Some people are worried about the “Not just girls” scene. Maybe we’ll get a flashback of them meeting where Wylan sees Jesper around for a few weeks, always flirting with girls. Then one night Jesper comes up to him and then we get that conversation and Wylan’s like “Alright cool, not just girls” then they have their one night stand.

Basically just remember nothing is really ruined. The show gets the vibes of the Crows so right. I think having some of these scenes now will only add more weight to the story later.

everyone who said "they had to make Kaz vocal about what Inej means to him because this is a TV show and we can't tell what he's thinking otherwise" owes me $10

Y’all we need to appreciate Freddy Carter and Daisy Head.

Their performances as Kaz and Genya had me speechless. Especially Daisy, some of the best acting I’ve seen in a long time.

The whole cast is truly perfect, one of the best adaptation casts EVER. And everyone’s acting was brilliant. One thing about this season that can NOT be criticized is how phenomenal the performances were from these actors. Every last one of them. Not a weak link among them.

I have complete trust in the writers of s&b because they respect the characters and this world. I can’t say that about many other adaptations. The way they actively incorporated quotes/dialogue from the books, stayed true to the characters’ personalities and essence… they know what they’re doing with the parts we, the fandom, love about the Grishaverse. I understand the complaints about some scenes losing their value because they switched book orders (like the Kanej “how will you have me” scene) but you also gotta understand that this is essentially the second part of a story, just like Crooked Kingdom is (for example). We have seen the first part of the Crows’ relation develop in s1, just like we did in SoC (some variation of it at least), but switching these books around doesn’t really make less sense to me?? In my opinion, it works. Consider what we know from the show, not the books and ask yourself if this is really all so out of pocket as you claim it to be.
