Wow it’s been Quite A Long Time since I uploaded any crafts of my own whoops...so anyway rn I’m trying to make a mini plastic canvas figure of some manga favs, more specifically Hanakamakiri and Imomushi from Caterpillar. Imomushi (Caterpillar) won’t be hard I think, especially because her main weapons are her combat boots, a handgun, and a dagger, it’s Hana that will give me trouble.
Here’s my baby Hana aka Flower Mantis and of course their weapons are a pair of giant mantis claws. I am very much determined to make mini versions of said claws...and I wanna make them posable. Wish me luck,
Because I love to suffer, I stayed up until like 3am last night sketching out Hana - see, the sketch is supposed to be Very Very Simple because a lot of detail will be lost when stitching, but still,
I literally went back through the first few chapters of Caterpillar where Hana appeared, took tons of pics, and sketched out the entire claw. Why am I the way that I am also it’s going to be Absolute Hell to stitch lmao
Some progress! Kind of!
I’m using Dorkstitch’s way of making character sprites because I love the style, and I made my child that way. Still playing with colors a little bit but I think it’s not half bad~ next to them is basically my guesstimate for the scale of the mantis claw.
I also made the relaxed version of them, hanging out without shoes or the capelet and wearing glasses, and also the bartender uniform. Do I know that the uniform is most likely just black and white? Yes. Am I still going to add color? Yes.
And finally, a preview of all five pieces of the mantis claw. A Mess,
I realized that on such a small scale, stitching the spikes as regular cross stitches would look bad so backstitching it is. I’ll probably mess around with these a little more but for now it’s what I got,,,
