In the interest of helping y’all stalk a guy who’s been dead for three thousand years, I present to you another document excavated from the archives of Ea-Naṣir!  This one is a purely practical one: a record of sale for 50 garments to Ea-Naṣir.  The guy apparently liked his clothing (or, more likely, bought it to sell as a merchant).

(A mina was about 500g; a shekel was 8.3g; a mina was .05g.  So the total weight in silver for 50 outfits was about 895g, or two pounds.)

The bloke (Conrad Veidt) was an outspoken opponent of antisemitism, and when he refused to divorce his wife (who was Jewish), Joseph Goebbels had him blacklisted.

He also donated tons and tons of money to poor children who had been negatively effected by the Blitz in London after he moved to the US, following his becoming a naturalised-British citizen after leaving Germany in the 1930s.

Don’t forget that in 1919, he starred in “Different from the Others”, a German film protesting the anti-homosexuality laws in place. It’s widely regarded as the first pro-gay film. Conrad Veidt was a goddamn hero.

He was also the highest paid member of the cast in “Casablanca” (where he played a Nazi officer, again), even if he only got second billing, because he was THAT big a star.

Conrad Veidt was an amazing human. To quote his wikipedia page:

it makes me uncomfortable how frequently attempts to raise awareness about adhd and autism in girls emphasize these kids as quiet, well-behaved, and not noticeably different from their peers. neurodiverse girls who successfully mask and and suffer invisibly deserve empathy, of course, but so do the girls who grow up labeled aggressive, inappropriate, or “weird.” a lot of nd girls have meltdowns and social difficulties which are labeled as anger issues and behavioral problems. nd girls are often perceived as “bad kids,” especially if factors like poverty or race are already priming both adults and their peers to see them that way. i don’t think it’s honest or socially responsible to present silently blending in as the only or even primary way developmental differences manifest in girls.  

I’m tired of women’s moral ambiguity being interpreted as evil and men’s evil being interpreted as moral ambiguity.

Getting a diagnosis finally broke the spell my parents had put on me for my whole life. The spell that said it’s rude to be on your phone at dinner or to wear ear plugs/headphones around others. Getting diagnosed finally let me seek out accommodations to make me more comfortable in a world that isn’t built for my autistic brain. It helped me know that it’s okay to not make eye contact with strangers and that I can wear pajama pants all day if I want because the fabric is Right. I am disabled. This society isn’t built for people like me, but I can make my little corner of it a little more bearable.
