#FOAMS AT THE MOUTH#YES#YESSSSS#YE A SSSSSSSSS#one more thing the play did right: give flynn the space and time to fully show and express his emotions!!!!#dgmw i love the way it's presented in the game but i love it even more when side material allows him to explore those feelings#FS only did a measly job at that but i'll give it credit for trying at least#like#the play aknowledging that repede is just as much flynn's pupper and having him joyfully spin him around in his arms like a proud dad??#fucking THANK YOU#but also#flynn being near tears at the thought of leaving yuri to die in dahngrest#or full-on crying after he confronted yuri when he killed ragou#or being completely gutted and emotionally destroyed when he came back to the group after having to watch yuri fall to his seeming death#and sceaming his soul out as he did so#see gwen's death in andrew garfield's spiderman?#the scene where she falls and the web he shoots to catch her looks like an extended hand desperate to reach out?#yeah#that feeling

#part 2 of me losing my absolute monkey shit#repede's actor asking them to stop whispering and laughing together like they're in their own little world#or tsubasa laughing so hard he's literally slouched over kato's lap#like#my dudes do you know what this is doing to my heart#this is peak post-game fluri behavior#just finally being able to be chill around each other again just like when they were goofy teens#finding that intimacy and closeness again#im honestly so glad tsubasa and kato became such friends after working on tov's stageplay together#just further proves thatif cast well fluri's scripted chemistry just naturally favors intimate companionship (however you may see it)

#SOBS im living for tsubasa and kato giving us the absolute most#they truly saw fluri and said 'yes but MORE'#you can really tell tori coached tsubasa because he will not shut up about how much yuri cares for flynn#and kato sho as flynn also cannot keep his hands off tsubasa as yuri whenever they're even near each other#every cast picture ive seen of them he's either got his hand or wholeass arm around tsubasa's waist or shoulder it's truly a marvel to see#like tsubasa inching his chair closer to kato every 5 minutes as if nobody would notice#or just playfully bumping into kato's chest??? hewwo????#HOLDING HANDS LIKE THEYRE A FAMILY???#this behavior in fluri costumes is doing wonders for my brainworms

#THEMST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#everyone burn this into your retinas or i will#i want to live inside whoevers decision it was to make the stageplay what is's head#like............it's perfect?#or would be if it were longer#because this is ending is leaving me blue-balled ngl#turning zaude into a private moment where flynn is desperately holding onto yuris SWORD to keep him from falling#probably cutting deep into his bloody palms but refusing to let go#meanwhile yuri just looks at him with this absolute longing while telling him to LIVE#implying “live FOR me” because he was fully prepared to die there and leave the world in flynn's hands#followed by flynn's honestly heartwrenching scream of despair when yuri falls#and then flynn walking back to the other completely destroyed mentally because he failed to save the person he cherished the most#only for that person to come back through the magic of gay people#and close the play with that dramatic and romantic-ass shot of them smiling at each other as they walk towards one another#no doubt to hug (because the game robbed us and i will not have that taken away from me a second time)#what kills me is the focus is intentionally on THEIR reunion even if everybody else is just as upset he 'died'/happy he returned alive#because why else keep the shot wide until its just them and then going on with a shot reverse shot of only the two of them-#if not to signify that this moment is about *them* actually#and to END the play on that no less#im getting goosebumps just recalling it#poetic cinema....................

So I started working again today, and me and my coworker had to squeeze lemons which usually is a really un fun job but TODAY. We had the mostly lovely batch of lemons to work with. Even though I'm doing posts about the aggravating changes Vesperia's dub made to the characters/relationships/etc, I decided to make the Nordopolica scene its own post because it felt too important to put with everything else given the excessive changes they made to that scene. I also wanted to get into how other changes by the dub affect this scene as well, because there were other scenes involving these two that pretty much got totaled in the dub and decided to try to make it not sound like they've been best friends most of their lives.

Why they made these changes I can only speculate (not doing so in a broad sense on this post since this isn't for that), but I find it infuriating that they completely changed the context and tone of this scene, among others. This just happens to be the one I find to have had the most emotional impact between them in the original that got totally stripped from the dub.

I considered posting this and giving context just from a recording of my own playthrough for the video, but I decided it was better to take the subtitled version from the same playthrough I'm using for my other posts.

This is also hellishly long, so it really did just need its own post.

#FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT#ive been grinding my teeth over the dub for years but since hardly anybody out here had access or understood both nobody really cared#but its soooooo important i cant stress enough how different both versions are#like some used to ship fluri and yet keep pretending flynn was an ass bc of the dub so they wrote him as a bordline abusive bf#and yuri was never more than the poor depressed victim#yeah i partly blame the dub for that because why else characterize flynn as this antagonistic force in their relationship#when all he has ever wanted and been recognized for in the original is motivating and concerned#yuri's nuance plays directly into the way flynn is perceived BECAUSE the player is in yuri's POV#its why i always argued that if the dub was gonna be that way then they might as well have given flynn his own pov chapter#just so people could learn to sympathize with flynn and feel WITH him and make up for what the dub lost#nordopolica and capua tor are such heartbreaking examples and you really put all the words on what i've been feeling all these years#its the sheer loss of layers in theri relationship#yuri being reduced to 'angry anti-cop badass' takes away so much of his complexity as a character#and its such a mark of mainstream western (american) lack of understanding for deep character writing because there its always so clear-cut#black is black and white is white and there is no space for a grey area which is soooooo ironic given that's the whole point of the game#characters being complex and actually dancing that line between good and evil? in MY dub? nah#protagonists have to be morally right (and cool if they're male) or else theres smg wrong apparently#so yuri isn't allowed the full range of nuance he's capable of#like sorry but im less impressed by yuri being 'mature enough' to kill villains#im impressed he's mature enough to recognize the ambiguity of his own moral and still stand by them in the end#like average dudebro will go 'wow yuri killed two dudes he's so cool and badass' meanwhile what makes him so refreshing his awareness#THATS what sets him appart from other traditional jrpg heroes#and this complex nuance of his that makes him feel so real and relatable and HUMAN is inextricably linked to flynn and their relationship#so butchering that is invevitably going to butcher yuri by proxy#you cant get around it#ruin their relationship you ruin both yuri AND flynn as characters#sigh#i wish people paid more attention and actually cared more abt these nuances because they're actually so vital even if they dont seem like i#cant express how disappointed it was to talk to a former friend who writes a lot of tov abt these details when i came across them years ag#only to be met with haughty disbelief and a frustrating sentiment of 'who cares' or 'you're reaching'

Not only there are great parallels/connections between the two since the first series, but is Aang (and Iroh) that ultimately makes him change sides

Let alone that Aang's kindness is the only reason Zuko is even alive. Katara and Sokka would have left him to die in the snowstorm at the north pole 😭
