anyway. i think most people left of mainstream US liberal are uh. insufficiently scared of Trump. this has become a cringe take over the years but i think electing him again has a really terrifying set of tail outcomes that are unlikely but possible

like he probably can't end US democracy! that's really hard to do. probably. but he has stated pretty directly that he's gonna try. and i would prefer if he did not

There’s a certain irony about this because many of the same American leftists tend to be very critical of liberal institutionalism, but they’re also relying on liberal institutionalism for why Trump would not be able to simply bulldoze his way into being a banana republic dictator.

Meanwhile, the folks who actually lived in countries that went authoritarian are way more alarmed about Trump because they dont have the US exceptionalist delusion that it can’t happen here.

Not to mention all this also ignores the sheer damage he did and can do even within the boundaries. Reagan wasn’t a dictator, but he was an absolute dumpster fire for the world, and the Republicans already have Project 2025 lined up for if Trump wins.

When I was twenty I was almost shot by a police officer because of my mental illness. I was peeling bark off a tree on public property to calm my anxiety.

Two officers pulled up very quietly in a squad car while I had my back turned. They did not announce their arrival. When I noticed them approaching me by the sound of their footsteps, I was frightened and reached for my phone to record them. They thought I was going for a weapon and one reached for his pistol. I put my hands up.

They illegally detained me and took my ID to run a background check. The one who had started to draw his gun on me asked me if I’d had any thoughts of hurting myself or others.

My background check came up clean. They released me and told me I wasn’t doing anything illegal. I went to my car and bawled my eyes out, thinking about how I’d almost died for the crime of “weird behavior.”

Don’t give these pigs a registry of the mentally ill. They’re already trying to kill us for no good reason.

@ all the idiots commenting on this saying I almost got shot because I reached into my pocket for my phone and not because of my “weird behavior”

  1. For the last time, nowhere in this post did I say my phone was in my pocket. Women’s pockets are too small for that. I was storing my phone in the mesh water bottle pouch on the side of the backpack I was wearing, i.e. an open and see-through compartment too small to conceal a gun and too far off my beltline for a concealed carry
  2. Did you miss the part where the only reason the cops were interacting with me to begin with was because they thought my perfectly benign behavior warranted law enforcement intervention?
  3. Stop making excuses for a person who wasn’t committing a crime almost getting killed by the police

Two ongoing digital games bundles are offering more than 200 tabletop RPGs (among video games, soundtracks, books and other goodies) in order to raise money in support of the Palestine Children’s Relief Funds. The Palestinian Relief Bundle is being hosted on Itch.io, while the separate TTRPGs for Palestine Charity Bundle is taking place on Tiltify. For $8, the Palestinian Relief Bundle is offering nearly 400 total items, 103 of which are tabletop RPG systems, supplements and adventures. Mapmaking game Ex Novo is joined by the paranormal gunslinging satire FIST: Ultra Edition, along with Takuma Okada’s celebrated solo journaling game Alone on a Journey. Weird and dirty iconoclast game about money, the mind and everything else, Greed by Gormenghast is also on this list and is well worth a look. And if you’d rather keep it cosy and introspective, Cassi Mothwin’s Clean Spirit will get the whole group taking care of their domestic homes. The TTRPGs for Palestine Charity Bundle focuses solely on analogue games, providing nearly 200 tabletop games for $15. A full spreadsheet of the included titles can be viewed here and includes Nevyn Holme’s Gun&Slinger, where one player embodies an occult cowboy while the second plays their sentient, magical gun. Wendi Yu’s Here, There, Be Monsters! approaches monster hunting media from the other side of the camera with a decidedly queer lens and unapologetic politics. Makapatag’s Gubat Banwa is a lush and dynamic collision of wuxia media, fiercely romantic and tragic melodrama all set against the backdrop and folklore of The Philippines.

we still get immediately shoved out of our immersion in tv shows or films when The Girl find a dead body and immediately shrieks - we just don't find it realistic because we're pretty confident most people would gasp rather than shriek (i.e. sharp inhale rather than sharp exhale) and it also feels unnecessarily (and predictably) misogynistic too, as men encountering corpses almost never do the same on screen

also of course please do tell us if you've actually encountered a corpse unexpectedly, because tumblr is absolutely a place where some people have done this thing and we love a good anecdote

suddenly imagining "burst into song" as a potential response

Here's the full, updated list from the FDA. It's currently (well, as of March 14 '24) 67 pages.

Also be aware that a LOT of companies substitute cheaper ingredients in their food products. Which is obnoxious but fine, unless you're allergic to the substitute ingredients.

Olive oil, tea, honey, cinnamon (not that lead is exactly "safe" to eat), vanilla, coffee, fish, blah blah blah. The list goes on. Any corners a company can cut to save .001%, they will. Usually the substitutes are mostly harmless, but it isn't as if companies care about consumer safety when there's profit to be made.

To clarify, the list linked is ALL hand sanitizer products officially recalled (and may have ongoing additions). It is NOT just the Aruba Aloe brand; there are many brands by various manufacturers on the list. So please check to see if you own anything on that list.

The best part of worldbuilding is making something that sucks. Magic schools with bullshit rules that don't work. Spaceships that are built stupid. My favourite thing to do is to make an inconvenient world that is full of stupid things for boring reasons, and then putting a character int here and making them live with that.

Shout out to the people who never had a safe place. Who didn’t have a before trauma. Who were loved but not protected. Who were collateral damage in someone else’s breakdown. Who got fucked up so young that they’ll never know who they could have been.

Shout out to people who’ve never felt safe. I hope you do someday.
