I’m never on this tumblr anymore but lest anyone think I have otherwise changed at all, you should know that I’m still here, queer, have flannel and a beer, and I’m ready to get clowned by this big dumb beautiful tv show One Last Time

Ah, you know, there really was never going to be a better way to end Supernatural than with a vaguely disappointing, underwhelming finale that at least leaves wide open spaces to be filled with fanfic. One of the things I miss most about actively following the fandom was that no matter how good, bad, or heartbreaking an episode was, the fanfic community always created such lovely codas out of them, and I simply cannot wait to read this last round because I know it’s gonna be so good!! :’)

This article poses a great question. We all know Bill, Neil, etc. but where are the female celebrity scientists?

Was anyone else slightly bothered that he brought on a Victoria’s Secret model to “sex up” science? Don’t get me wrong, I love Karlie Kloss as much as the next person….but it’s just been floating in my head and I can’t decide why I feel “off” about it. I think she was extremely well spoken and did a great job, I just feel as though he could’ve found female scientists for the job. Obviously the wouldn’t have the pop culture appeal and the beautiful long legs, but would that have been so bad? I mean, he obviously could have hired me and/or @hood32. Stressing here: I have nothing against Kloss and think she did great, I just think this would’ve been a great opportunity to give women scientists the exposure. And they went with a supermodel.

So give me your ideas/opinions. Why no female celebrity scientists? Why supermodels instead?

Holy shit — I have not watched BNSTW – they actually….hired a supermodel to “sex up” science????

This might make me the same brand of uncomfortable that science kits marketed towards girls to like “learn the science of lip gloss” does but probably 50x more. I mean, especially as a child who watched BNTSG, I can’t imagine how disheartening it would be as a young girl to see a woman on a science show only to sex-it-up. (And while I’m under the impression BNSTW is specifically for adults, it is on Netflix and I’m certain that some children have watched it or maybe even been suggested to watch it by parents of my generation or older that associate Nye with kids shows.)

I mean the answer to the question of why no female celebrity scientists is sexism but anyways Also hiring a super model instead of an actual female scientist/science communicator is super gross, especially considering the fact that women are very well represented (over represented even) among you non celebrity science communicators.

Ugh really? Want to sex up your science communication. Get someone like  Dr. Lindsey Doe of Sexplanations, a lady human who does BOTH sex research and scientific communication. And that’s off the top of my head. I bet there are more.

Not to nitpick, because none of this erases the fact that yes, the absence of female celebrity scientists is a problem, and if a woman looked like Bill Nye they would never put her on tv, but Bill Nye isn’t actually a scientist either. All he has is a BS in engineering and hasn’t worked as an engineer in 30 years. He’s a science educator; so is Karlie Kloss. Sometimes supermodels also have other jobs...

Butch is a trickster gender—and so, in a similar way, is femme. Lesbian gender expressions do not emulate heteropatriarchy, they subvert it. Femme removes femininity from the discursive shadow of masculinity and thereby strips from it any connotation of subordination or inferiority. Butch takes markers of “masculinity” and divests them of their association with maleness or manhood. Butchness works against the gender binary—the masculine/feminine paradigm—and reclaims for women the full breadth of possibilities when it comes to gender expression.

I thought this was so spot-on, thoughtful, and well-written.

Emergency Commissions!

So I recently just had to put down a bunch of unexpected money on my car. I get paid monthly so it’ll be a couple of weeks before I get any more income and so I am opening up some commissions in the meantime.

I do these mini-portraits of actors so if you would like one, please message me!

They are on little 3x5 standard notecards and done in ballpoint pen. I can do humans and yes I do need a reference picture.

They take me about an hour or more to do (the elaborate hair took me two hours) so I will take $10 per head or more if you want to donate.

Please and thank you!

Commissions are still open! Please message me if you are interested!

every series of doctor who [1/9] →  series one

Do you know like we were saying, about the earth revolving? It’s like when you’re a kid, the first time they tell you that the world is turning and you just can’t quite believe it ‘cause everything looks like it’s standing still. I can feel it. The turn of the earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour. The entire planet is hurtling around the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour. And I can feel it. We’re falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world.
